Do it yourself and the cost would only be 1900 baht plus the cost of one photo and about 4 copies.

Maybe my understanding is wrong but I thought if I had known I was going to immigration I should have reported within 24 hours and used a TM30(I didn’t think I would want an extension when I first come here).Wont they be looking for a TM30 from me?.My guesthouse boss has said they can give me paperwork saying I have been resident here.

op you could get a 30 day extension if you wanted more time

Yes as it is at the moment I just get about an extra eleven days by changing flight date and just getting under 60 days. I had considered the extension of 30 days and got quotes of agents doing it for 3500 baht to 4000 baht.Never done an extension before always gone home just under the 2 months.

Is it only the 30 day extension that is available...That or nothing?

It depends upon the officer stamping you out of the country.

But they would not fine you 500 baht for a overstay of less than 24 hours. The put a stamp saying you overstayed less than 24 hours.

Ok thanks. At the moment I have no overstay stamps in my passport and would like to keep it that way.The admitted until date is 28th March so could actually pass through immigration on 27th but fly out on 28th just after midnight. And I assume I won’t have overstayed then.

  4. Hello all.

Would just like to check/confirm that it is ok to be passing through immigration(Suvarnabhumi airport) on the admitted until date in Passport. I,m thinking of changing my return flight from about 47 days so I get the full 60 day stay in Thailand. My return flight is about an hour after midnight so would be passing through immigration about 9pm on for example 28th March but actually departing Thailand an hour or so into 29th.I am assuming the Immigration officer just looks at the date he sees me at his desk?

    Cheers

What would you need a current (a.k.a., checking) account for?   Maybe if you run a business and do a lot of business payments.

Otherwise, a regular savings account should meet the needs of most every common man since  you get an ATM/debit card, can have ibanking,  do as many monthly transactions/bill payments as you want to,  etc.     And when I say "regular savings account" I don't mean a fixed deposit savings account where you money gets tied up for X-amount of time.

If you are from the U.S. you may be use to savings accounts being somewhat restrictive in how many transactions you could do per month...like around 6 transactions because in the U.S. a savings account was meant for "saving money and not doing too many monthly transactions."   Instead, you got a checking (a.k.a., current) account to pay as many bills,  write checks, transfers, etc., that you wanted to per month.  Many people just had both a checking and savings account.

However, in Thailand a regular savings account is basically like a checking account in the U.S. except without checks.

Well I don't really want a current account.Just an account to keep about 60,000 baht in as back up and not really touch that money for holidays. So the savings account should be ok for me.

  6. New seals and oil will be a cheap refurb of your shocks. No need to replace them unless they're bent.

However, it begs the question, why do you think you need new shocks?

If your ride feels a bit rough and you're getting noise/clunks in the front end and a bumpy feedback through the handlebars, then it's more than likely your steering head bearing that is causing it, and not your suspension.

Eight years of rough roads will have killed that bearing by now. I've ridden scooters that are only two years old with 5,000klm on them and they've already got a knackered bearing.

I suggest you check that bearing for any play - cheap as chips to replace and will improve the ride tremendously.

OK thanks for that idea had not thought of that.Steering does not feel as free as a newer bike..but moves OK.On small bumps with two people on it can feel it through the bike more at the front...so could be those bearings..

    Thanks

  7. OK thanks guys.I have bought one of those neon screwdrivers (Stanley make). It confirms the yellow is live and goes off when light switch operated. Will still switch off at main unit though.

Green wire will be my neutral wire then.I've seen in UK ceiling fittings that an earth is supplied if light fitting has metallic parts..The main unit here has circuit breaker protection.

  8. Hi all.

Would like to replace an old ceiling light fitting that had ring fluorescent and white ballast unit in it with single yellow and single green cables connected. With a new fitting that has lampholders and two compact Edison screw compact fluorescent lamps that I have bought. Was expecting to see 3 wires in old fitting...live neutral and earth...Any suggestions?

    Thanks

  9. Patong is boring as hell apart from the beautiful available women, cheap booze, night clubs, good cheap food, cheap moto rental, fishing spots, close vacinity to islands and free wifi on every corner.

    They have free wi-fi?

  10. Good luck to anyone trying to start any sort of smallish new business in Patong.

Everyone loves a pancake......tourists can't get enough of them ?

  11. Thanks for your replies, I need to discuss with my friends but it seems likely somewhere down on the south/south west coast? I guess Kamala/Kata that area? This is partly why I'm thinking of waiting till I get there until I book, want to check these places out first. Sounds as if that shouldn't be too difficult if things are quiet.

Kamala/Kata area would be good. They both have a beach with bars/restaurants/shops as part of the resort. If you are going to sort out your accommodation while you are there then the Kata area might be better as it is quite close to Karon..So if you don't see anything you like in Kata only a short distance to Karon. Both have nice beaches.

  12. Taxi cost information. Taken from website.

A metered taxi stand is located outside of the Phuket airport main terminal building of the far right as you exit the terminal.

The average fares from Phuket airport are; Phuket Town 400 baht, Patong 550 baht, Kata/Karon 600 baht plus a 100 baht airport surcharge. The trip will usually take approximately 30 minutes to Phuket, 40 minutes to Patong Beach, and around one hour to Kata/Karon.

Last time I used a taxi airport to Patong was 700 baht which included the 100 baht surcharge.

  13. July wont be high season so should be a bit quieter. What part of Phuket are you thinking of staying. There are some busy parts of Phuket and quieter parts with nice beach and just a few bars around.

  14. Well done for doing all that driving. Not something I would try.Was in Hua Hin and did think about driving down to Phuket and back but didn't fancy doing that much driving.Have driven in Bangkok a few times and as you say unless you really know it well have to have gps.

  15. Hello.

Travelling from the UK I am planning on visiting Thailand soon.i haven't yet though decided how long I want to stay. i will be going to get my visa soon but want to give myself some flexibility and decide length of stay after getting my visa.

I wont be staying for longer than 5 months but maybe just stay a few days over 4 months. So hoping a double entry will do it?

Will I have to leave country or do any border runs if staying longer than 3 months?

    Thanks
