Thaksin cannot return for at least a year: Surayud

BANGKOK: -- Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont said Sunday that he would not allowed his predecessor Thaksin Shinawatra to return to Thailand for at least a year.

He said Thaksin should wait until a new government is elected in a year before returning to Thailand.

"The best way is that Thaksin should wait until the problems have been solved during the year ahead. When there is an election and a new government, it will be a proper time [for Thaksin to return to Thailand], Surayud said.

Surayud said it was inappropriate to allow Thaksin to return and put him under a house arrest as suggested by former prime minister Chavalit Yongchaiyud as doing so would be similar to an action of the Burmese military government.

I agree! These people will never learn!! There needs to be public ot televised executions to get the point across that drug trafficking carries the death sentence! You can't pussyfoot around this issue, it needs to be stamped on the mind of 'would be' drug smugglers!

If only the UK adopted the same, maybe that would deter all the Yardies' drug mules!

Because we're such nice guys here at thaivisa forum, I walked down and checked the place out today.

For 800 baht you have a bargain.  I went down Soi Jintana, which is full of cheap rooming houses, etc., but Jintana hotel is down  a soi at the end and when you walk into the grounds it is a peaceful oasis in the middle of Patong.  I had never been there before.  The swimming pool is good, the rooms are large, there are safe deposit boxes, etc.  There doesn't seem to be a bar and the restaurant was closed, but restaurants and bars are the last thing you have to worry about in Patong.

Is it 'guest friendly'?

Does anyone have any suggestions for 'guest friendly' hotels with pools in or near the centre of Patong?

Going to Phuket or Pattaya for 3 weeks . Is Phuket up and running whit the bars , disco's and the girls now ? Or will i be alone slamming shoters and trowing girls around ? Know from friends Pattaya is doing good now even its low seasion. Have the Tsu and the last earthquake pulled the brakes on the party scene down there ?

What is the best places and where. Havent been there in 1,5 years. Patong Beach still jamming ?

That said you still can't beat Pattaya. Good news is it's a cheap and short plane ride to Pattaya from Phuket.

Pattaya is chaos and manic at best. Patong is a little more relaxed. I prefer Patong, but as already mentioned, Pattaya is not too far away, if you want a better chance to be murdered!!

Go for Patong, you will enjoy it

I agree...Patong is jumping. I'm back on May 20th for the Phuket 10's and much much more!!
