  1. cant really agree. i prefer the fresh air old worn out third class trains for short trips to the enclosed air con or sprinter trains. of course i pay the extra for lower sleeping for long distance overnight.

with these, sometimes the fumes from the under carriage diesel motor get into the enclosed carriages when stopped at the station with the doors open for too long.

one thing malaysia has is sleeping during the day. thais want you, sometimes demand you, to sit on your sleeper, i much prefer to lie down with the curtain closed . have seen in the past, trains in malaysia that were possibly older and more decrepit than even thai trains but these were only used on the line that goes up the middle of the peninsular not on the coastal route or to singapore. malaysias new level smooth track is wonderful. some places thai track resembles a fair roller coaster swaying violently from side to side or up and down even.

  2. amazing that so few farang know that most/many of the third class ordinary trains are free for thai passengers..

the free trains isaan or korat to bkk are often standing room only so upping an additional 10% passengers is not an option. whereas additional carriages would be welcomed. farang still must pay minimal fee though. whereas the free bkk metro buses are free for farang too. thais must pay a fee for the free trains if they have commercial luggage but the luggage fee is still minimal.

free trains that go south usually have enough seats week days. holidays or long weekends are a different story

rude service is the exception rather than the rule. dirty toilets is standard thai practice. i have more issue with some of the cleaning chemicals being used or that were used to mop the floors that didnt need mopping.

  3. "not sure getting attention is the way to go for farang."

Wow your addition to this thread helps so much. Thanks for sharing.

ok i leave you to worship your holy cows.

but just one thing before i go, i would have said 100% positive https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydrogen_sulfide but that was without knowing of the cassava substrate. with that additional info Packdees hydrogen cyanide could be more likely, or a combo of the two. lack of oxygen as the primary cause is not at all likely with the fast multiple knock downs reported.

  4. i have successfully avoided harriers for the whole of my life. voluntary engagement would be out of the question or require undue duress . unfortunate that a worship of alcohol excess seems to creep into unrelated gatherings. i also avoid excessive loudness. but thats just me.

i had thought that the combo harriers plus farmers was a lead balloon as the thread stopped dead for long time. maybe other drinking farmers or those that can straddle both groups will prevail. just not for me sorry.

It is wonderful to have you join the farming forum, So have you finnished building your house or still living under the bridge ?

well you can be certain its not under a bar stool.

  5. went to go to tops/robinsons there a week or so ago and yes it was closed and workers were destroying the facings and stuff. felt sad for the local street sellers because obviously pedestrian traffic would suffer. thought it was permanent shutdown not just a remake. remake makes more sense as they did have numerous customers previously. they had good bread things at that tops branch.

by the way, wheres the next closest tops in the meantime?

  6. high end tourists who like to be harassed every day in the street by taxi thugs. which country might they come from?sad.pngcoffee1.gif

Taxi problems solved. Hi-end “quality” tourists do not use street taxis – or tuk-tuks – they use the limousines provided by their five-star hotels. thumbsup.gif

erm.. but they have to get out of the limousines sometimes dont they? you know like between the limousines and the front gate of the zoo or the grand palace . that would be at least 3 steps in public where they would be wide open to the perpetual harassment.

  8. Anyone else catch the article in the Bangkok Post or Nation about the mushroom farmer that sealed his grow house and fumigated. Apparently he didn't clear it enough before he went in. Killed him and three others.

    Something to be aware of.

    <deleted> did he use?

this one? "Without proper oxygenation, the gypsum in mushroom compost, which contains calcium sulfate, could turn into hydrogen sulfide — a toxic gas, according to Art Bomke, associate professor of land and food systems at the University of B.C."
