  1. It's very very unusual in Isaan to be treated with any form of negativity or hate unless you take offence to being called farang. Everyone is mostly curious and polite

I've been asked for my political views in the past, but always played dumb and refrain from getting involved (albeit I have my own thoughts on the matter)

Along with the North, Isaan has to be the most friendliest of regions!!!

  2. I'm not sure if this is the same place that you are talking about when you mention 'mini pattaya' but there is a place on the west side of the Ubol Rattana reservoir that they refer to as Pattaya 2. There is not a lot there to be honest, just a bunch of food places and a few paddle boats that you can rent by the hour. A few years ago they did have a banana boat but I didn't see it the last time I was there, which was about 6 months ago. They have some umbrellas and deck chairs down at the waters edge which you can rent and they'll bring the food down to you to eat there and you might get the odd one or two trying to sell you something but it's nothing like Pattaya. The nearest town to it of any size is Phu Wiang.

Spot on description...........no banana boat there just the pedalos

Been there many times and as recent as last month

Tricky to get to off route 12, helpful if you can read Thai road sign directions. That said Google map will guide you there

  3. Angel City Diner on Sukhumvit Soi 11 is open 24 hours.

How far up the soi 11 is the place? Left or Right side walking from Suk? Any landmark?

Coming from Suk it's on the left far down Soi 11.....Part of Prime 11 apartment building, next door to Aloft hotel. Across from Angel City / Prime 11 is Citadines Hotel, Mulligans Pub and Oskars Bar / Restaurant...........A few metres down from Oskars is Bed Supper Club

  4. Angel City Diner on Sukhumvit Soi 11 is open 24 hours.

It says it is (on the sign) but it isnt...........I live in the same building. Recently open for breakfast but ive been out at 6-7am and its closed

If you're desperate Mulligans across the soi is open 24 hours, booze and full menu, including brekkie all day/night

  5. Hi all who live in Chum Phae or close to it

Would be good to make contact with anyone in the area

My GPS position is 16.72946 North, 101.933456 East

    Hi Graham,

Will gladly look you up and buy a few beers from you when I return to Phu Pha Man in january. I still cant get your coordinates to make sense on Google earth though. 16.72946 101.933456 made sense if you are Nth East from Phu Pha Man mountain.

The second lot put you in the bush Sth West from Phu Pha Man...

    Andy

Ahhhh, just looked at the map you posted and the first set of coordinates matches the map, only 15 minutes or so from my place Graham, I will give you a pm closer to the time.

    Andy

Sorry guys you are having so many problems, I'm lifting the link straight off Google Maps. If you are interested in visiting sometime just drop me a line I will ensure you don't get lost.

Andy yes for sure you are only 15 minutes away and I am NE of Phu Pha Man, if you speak to your wife/gf she will know for sure where I am. Huai Muang my village it's pretty well known place in the area

  6. Hi All

I've posted a classified on Thai Visa looking for a pool table but just trying to cover the angles so

I'm wondering if anyone on here or they know in the Isaan Provinces has one for sale or if someone could put me in touch with a supplier

thanks in advance for your help

    G

I got mine from Phuket Billards. Very good table. Delivered, set up everything. Cheaper than the rest as well. Total cost for Italian slate Pool table (big or small pockets) around 70,000 baht.

Thanks for the info, I'm in Phuket tomorrow for 4 days so I will look them up

  7. Anyone got other photos of Frarang pubs, Cafes and restaurants in Chumphae?

Although I've been here a while I don't really frequent Chump hae that much other than for shopping and banking

The only farang pub I know is Lemon Tree but there could be more that i don't know about. I also know there is a Coyote type bar but haven't been there yet, I'm not 100% where it is but have got some information on the general vicinity, it's on my to do list

Here are some pics of the lemon tree, I've lifted these off anther site so cant vouch for the size or quality

  9. I had probs with that location too, the amended one. :D

Graham, it looks like an oasis. Well done! :o:D

Is this right or have I made another hash of it?

Dare I say it looks in the middle of erm........ nowhere.

    Cheers

That looks right - i know what your saying on the map it looks like that but it's not really, it's 10 km off the 201, a fair part of that is populated by villages

  10. Okay so here are a few pics

You will se that the bar area is under construction but It will be open for our new years eve party, I will hopefully have a live band playing as well. The bar has an eating area 3-4 tables for Moo Ka Ta and Jim Joom, a pool table area and a bar you can sit at. UBC and Karaoke with LCD TV is also available in this area

Outside we have 4 Thai style thatched houses which seat upto a maximum of 10 people per house, one of the houses is VIP with LCD TV, component DVD and Karaoke, the other 3 houses have mini component Hi Fi systems for music

If the live band is a success I may try and organize this on a regular basis

In the area there is no entertainment or proper restaurant / bar type establishments the nearest being Non Han or Phu Pa Man and thereafter further on in Chumphae

Looks to me like you are very far from Chumphae and pretty much in the middle of nowhere.

Can a bar/restaurant survive in a village so far from other farangs?

My bar / restaurant is not aimed at the farang market. It's targeted at the local Thai market it has done very well so far

As for middle of nowhere, it may seem like that to you as per the map, but there are a huge volume of villages here thus the population is quite dense, goes someway to explaining why Isaan is the most populated area of Thailand

  12. I live in the area just off the 201 Loei road at Nanongthum, 10km north of Baan Han

I've just found out about this place so will now pop by, heard good reports

Anyone interested I also have a bar restaurant - thai barbi soup and sports bar if you want to pop by and say hello

    G

What's thai barbi soup when its at home? sounds intriguing - not a dish I've come across before. You mean you get Thai barbie dolls (living perhaps?) and boil them up before serving? Bit like kwitiaow poo sao or similar? :o

You have probably tried it, commonly there are 2 types, Jim Joom and Moo Ka Taa, we serve both of them. Don't boil the thai barbi dolls but do have a few working here 555555

GPS reference is 16.729461 North, 101.933456 East

You may want to check the coordinates again.

Apologies should be 16.43 46.06 North, 101.56.0.44 East
