  1. I moved into a brand new apartment complex - I asked my landlord about removing the plastic he said well you wouldn't want to sleep on that!  As previously suggested buy a mattress protector mind you, you can carefully cut along one end of the plastic covering & slide it off then replace it when you move they can be folded up reasonably small.

  2. Hi yes of course you can. A friend died about a year ago he had an expensive new Asus laptop which his daughter who lives in England wanted. Thailand post have a courier service in the main Chiang Mai PO they also have a packaging service you just fill in the required forms I think it cost around 3500Bt & she received it in 3 days! Passengers travel domestically/internationally everyday carrying  their mobiles & laptops!!

  3. Information re: WRlife can be obtiained from the UK Govt. Companies register which shows they're a Limited Liability Partnership - I have followed this company on & off it was registered in 2015 when it had minimal assets of around 6000GBP. I've never found anyone who's had a successful claim or otherwise with this co. I did speak to AA Insurance and also a broker in CM about them earlier this year both said they were an option but had no further info about them. I believe they have an agent in Samui but not spoken to them. It all seems a little secretive.

  4. I live in Chiang Mai where we are seeing a return of quite a few tourists mainly all Uni age  NONE of them wear masks and all seem to walk around with no problem with locals who all wear them. I agree time to make them optional for a while then people will slowly forget them. As for not getting Covid I've had 3 vaccs but got but got invected about six weeks back two days of fever & a cough gone in four days!

  5. Well the DLT said that the Police would be instructed not to charge people on an expired license but there is no mention regarding insurance companies and no way would I trust any assurances by an insurer unless given in writing if I was involved in an accident!!

  6. Hi a friend just returned from doing his 90 day report at CM IMM and also to get a re-entry as he's going to Viet. he was told that if he leaves Thai. and returns he will need compulsory health insurance. I have never heard this but he said he questioned 2 IMO's I asked if he stipulated that he had an 'O' visa which he confirmed is this legit?? Cheers

  8. As quite often in LOS those that must be obeyed have it back to front instead of punishing the people abusing the system they're penalising those doing it legally thus creating problems for many of them.

I have an acquaintance who had the money but refused to lodge it in a Thai bank so was assisted with this to a tune of some 25,000bt each year - these are the people who should be penalised but of course it's easier the other way round.

    All the very best DON!!

  9. Every Songran we get the usual 'fors and against" what I find is the selfishness in most of the posts as it's all about them. Last year and probably this one too Northern Thailand has had a serious drought many farmers had there water either cut off or faced severe restrictions weeks before Songran began and so they watched as their crops and living went literally down the drain! Imagine as a farmer coming to CM and seeing the total waste of the most precious commodity being flushed uselessly away. My GF only lives 40klms. south of CM but her water has been restricted for at least 4-5 weeks.

So yes have some fun but please have some thought to!!!

  10. I was at CM Imm yesterday to renew my extension for retirement arrived at 6.00am and no: 3 in the queue docs checked by young assistant all OK - IMO arrived 9.10am. had to fill in a revised TM7 form I had a new TM 30 ready but there was one already stapled at the back of my PP which has been there for a couple of years I was told to get a copy of it the new one was handed back to me. All done by 10.30 but I'm still very confused re: TM30 process do I staple the old form back in my PP for next time if not where does the new receipt come from I've discovered that the apts. I'm living in has'nt lodged TM 30's for many residents so what do I do regarding that? I am leaving Thai. in June for a month and returning to the same address and understand it is now mandatory for me to lodge a new TM30 within 1 week of my return.

Any info. regarding this would be gratefully appreciated.

    Cheers

  11. Regarding health insurance there are several that will insure you before 75 and no cut off age . I turn 75 in June and found a reasonable insurer that will cover you for 8 major conditions including repatriation for around $A2000 per year plus others who are more expensive but still relatively affordable they will require a full medical report.

As far as the Aus. pension is concerned the poster who said it's not paid while O/S has obviously not read the Govt. Policy it's regulated by the time you have lived and worked in Aus. to comment on issues you know nothing about can be very confusing and worrying to others so please desist!!

  12. Choices a bit limited really I have a 2011 Toyota Yaris 1.5L  auto pretty basic interior lacks heater or remote folding mirrors but good power and reliable  but not so economical as the engine and g/box are over 10 yrs old  and identical to the Vios so old technology as said the 2016 Vios now using the Altis g/box.   New Yaris really a bit large for a 1.2L  and lacks a heater or remote folding mirrors as which is standard on most others  and  probably down on power. Mazda 2 leaps ahead of competition but pretty pricey especially the diesels which are the pick.. Suzuki Swift has had consistently good reviews from the UK and Aus. but a new model due next year as is the Nissan March. Honda Brio has had some fairly critical reviews concerning finish etc. and a little lightweight I would regard it as  purely a town car. Almera and Attrage good value for what you get but would you want to be seen driving one?? All the Best

  13. I was at Prom about 2.30 this afternoon and the G4T office was closed and empty a few small tables and chairs plus a photocopier inside but the large sign  was nowhere to be seen so moved or gone??

  14. Yes sadly have to agree regarding Samui I lived in Maenam for 3 years some 10 years back I used to walk the beach every morning and pick up rubbish as I went the resorts only used to clean the area directly in front of them dig a hole about 2 feet deep and bury it of course next time a decent tide came the whole lot would end up in the sea again and hence back on the beach.

I eventually left when following a big storm walking the beach I noticed a continuous line of brown sludge which of course was sewage as the Island is full of septic tanks when the water table reaches its limit the septics overflow into the streams and hence into the sea the other problem was cigarette butts which also used to line the shore.

Heaven only knows how they dispose of the presumably mountains of garbage and sewage these days I dread to think!!

  15. Buying a used car can be advantageous financially and there are some good deals out there. I bought a 3 year old Toyota Yaris with 21,000klms.from Toyota Sure which had a full I year manufacturers warranty and they were happy to fix any problems which ran to a new window winder motor and 2 new front suspension struts as one proved faulty

I still own the car and have had absolutely zero problems it's now done 47,000k's most important is regular servicing especially oil changes. BMW's are a nice car but even if you buy used at a reasonable price you will always be paying a high price for parts and servicing as it's an expensive vehicle.

    Best of luck.
