    Hi Armking,

Also a fellow Malaysian - Lawyer here in Bangkok.

Although USD2000, may be OK for a local but it all depends on what your life style is. After all the necessary deductions you net pay would be about THB52000, or so.

As for housing, there are plenty in town, again, it would depend on how you want to live and maybe close to work as well. THB52,000 would be about MRY6000, net!

Have a good think about it.

    Kind regards,

Can you please advise what happened at the District Office? What were the plonkers you faced? Appreciate your input on this and also what to expect there. How many trips did you have to make before you obtained your Thai ID and how long did it take?

Was told that you have to bring 3 X 1 inch photos  together with all the other documents and Certificate.

    Corrections!

I meant 3 photos of 1 inch size.

Was informed by the officer at SB that they will be holding an official presentation ceremony to all the 55 successful new Thais at the SB office on Christmas day Dec. 25th.

I could not attend it as will be away until after the new year holidays.

I received the official letter from MOI on Dec. 20th. with instructions to contact SB and then get my Thai IC issued within 60 days from the date of the RG.

Are you also on the RG list dated Nov. 21st?

I was advised to apply in BKK, however it made no sense to me, as I would then need to find a place there and change my house registration, and the company is register in CNX.  Also, we had to go to the SB about 6 times before we actually submitted the application, so doing it in CNX was way more convenient.  When we submitted our, there was also another individual that is being processed in CNX.  The SB did inform that I will still have to go to BKK for interviews though.

It is the time-frame that matters; unless you do not mind a longer process. FYI, if you submit your application in the province, the process is much more complicated. You will have to wait for the provincial governor to interview you before your application lands in the SB in Bangkok. If you've got good connections within the province and can get the governor to sign your application without delay, then it should be ok.

People need to understand that, even though we have thai citizenship. essentially we Continue to be guests in this country and our citizenship can be revoked at anytime . We are never really thai citizens in the true sense of the word ,in time of war or if behaving immorally we would be returned to the place of our birth. This is regardless of if you have "renounced " your original citizenship. You or I will never be considered true thai, because in fact we are not. We continue to be guests in a foreign country albeit with a few privileges enjoyed by birth citizens. I always remember that .

We are all guest in this Big Wide World. Our guest status can be revoked anytime; may it be due to old age, illness, fatal accident or a court sentence for serious crime.

  7. I have been a PR for almost 30 years.  Holding a work permit all the time. Had been on the social security program since it was first implemented. Changed companies 4 times and the latest is my own company with me holding 49%. Have been a director of my own company for almost 20 years now. And all these while, have been on the social security program and had 750 Baht deducted from my monthly salary since.

My ID, tax and social security numbers are all the same.

My application was signed by His Majesty the King last month. I went to SB and took the oath last week. Hopefully my name will be included in the next Royal Gazette.

  9. The date is permanently fixed annually on the ninth month according to the Chinese Lunar calender.

It is always observed from the 1st day and ends on the 9th day of the ninth month.

But some follower will start one day earlier to cleanse their body.
