Hi Armking,
Also a fellow Malaysian - Lawyer here in Bangkok.
Although USD2000, may be OK for a local but it all depends on what your life style is. After all the necessary deductions you net pay would be about THB52000, or so.
As for housing, there are plenty in town, again, it would depend on how you want to live and maybe close to work as well. THB52,000 would be about MRY6000, net!
Have a good think about it.
Kind regards,

Can you please advise what happened at the District Office? What were the plonkers you faced? Appreciate your input on this and also what to expect there. How many trips did you have to make before you obtained your Thai ID and how long did it take?
Was told that you have to bring 3 X 1 inch photos together with all the other documents and Certificate.
Corrections!
I meant 3 photos of 1 inch size.

I replied to GabbaGabbaHey earlier today as follows:
SB to MOI was about 8 months
MOI to The King signing approval = 6 months
King Signed approval to taking oath = 1 month
After taking oath waited about 5 months to RG.
After RG waited another month till SB informed date to pick up all the necessary docs.
I will go pick it up after the new year holidays.
Hope this helps to give you the approximate time-frame.
Pls note that before I got thru to the SB stage, it was a Veeeeery Looooong wait.
Wasted precious 7 years at the Provincial Police dept. before moving my blue book to Bangkok (thanks to contributions from this forum) and applied directly to SB in Bangkok.
From then onwards, it was smooth sailing.
All in all, my time-frame was slightly over 2 years from my 1st. day at Bangkok SB.

Sent from my iPhone using Thaivisa ConnectWas informed by the officer at SB that they will be holding an official presentation ceremony to all the 55 successful new Thais at the SB office on Christmas day Dec. 25th.
I could not attend it as will be away until after the new year holidays.
I received the official letter from MOI on Dec. 20th. with instructions to contact SB and then get my Thai IC issued within 60 days from the date of the RG.
Are you also on the RG list dated Nov. 21st?

This is a real fishy claim.
It is impossible for those worms to be alive in a can that has gone thru a steriliaation process. If those cans were not sterilised, it would gave swollen and blown out within 2 or 3 weeks. I smell a fishy- rat in this claim.

Not true. I have drove into Malaysia many times using my Thai registered car. The latest was 2 weeks ago.

I was advised to apply in BKK, however it made no sense to me, as I would then need to find a place there and change my house registration, and the company is register in CNX. Also, we had to go to the SB about 6 times before we actually submitted the application, so doing it in CNX was way more convenient. When we submitted our, there was also another individual that is being processed in CNX. The SB did inform that I will still have to go to BKK for interviews though.
It is the time-frame that matters; unless you do not mind a longer process. FYI, if you submit your application in the province, the process is much more complicated. You will have to wait for the provincial governor to interview you before your application lands in the SB in Bangkok. If you've got good connections within the province and can get the governor to sign your application without delay, then it should be ok.

I wasted 7 years in Songkhla with my application there.
Yes, I agree with Arkady that they should make it official that all citizenship applications be submitted in Bangkok and waive the condition of having a Bangkok address.

Had I not joined this forum, I would most probably still be waiting for my application to progress at the Songkhla Police.
Thank you.

Out of curiosity, do PR holders keep their 8xxx ID number after getting naturalized?
My 13 digit ID number starts with 5. It is the same number shown in my blue book, pink ID card, driver's license, tax records and also social security.

People need to understand that, even though we have thai citizenship. essentially we Continue to be guests in this country and our citizenship can be revoked at anytime . We are never really thai citizens in the true sense of the word ,in time of war or if behaving immorally we would be returned to the place of our birth. This is regardless of if you have "renounced " your original citizenship. You or I will never be considered true thai, because in fact we are not. We continue to be guests in a foreign country albeit with a few privileges enjoyed by birth citizens. I always remember that .
We are all guest in this Big Wide World. Our guest status can be revoked anytime; may it be due to old age, illness, fatal accident or a court sentence for serious crime.

I have been a PR for almost 30 years. Holding a work permit all the time. Had been on the social security program since it was first implemented. Changed companies 4 times and the latest is my own company with me holding 49%. Have been a director of my own company for almost 20 years now. And all these while, have been on the social security program and had 750 Baht deducted from my monthly salary since.
My ID, tax and social security numbers are all the same.

Tungkru.
Why?
Thanks Greenchair, I am at Yannawa.
I asked because I was just hoping that I will not have to face the same dilemma when my time comes. Keep my fingers crossed that the Yannawa Amphoe will be better.

I did my oath at the SB in June and waiting patiently for the Royal Gazette.
Anyone here in the same group got their name in the RG yet?
I understand that the previous list was endorsed on 11th. of August and got published in September.

For me getting the id was harder than getting the citizenship.
And I had to have my passport translated, which I didn't even need to do to get citizenship because they used the translation of my birth certificate.
I had about 4 trips to the umpur.
Greenchair, May I ask which Amphoe is this? Thanks

Congratulations. Good news. I think you are the first to report royal approval under the new reign, although there may, of course, have been earlier ones not reported here.
Thanks Arkady. Hope you will get your soon too.

The date is permanently fixed annually on the ninth month according to the Chinese Lunar calender.
It is always observed from the 1st day and ends on the 9th day of the ninth month.
But some follower will start one day earlier to cleanse their body.

I like this statement:
Quote...
No one in this country has a clue about their job .. Sometimes it's worth a blag.
...unquote
It is very very true of most of the Govt. departments all over the country.

Seems that the Authorities do not understand the meaning of " LEGAL TENDER."
The Thai Baht with the words LEGAL TENDER for 100 Baht is not able to buy a lottery with the printed face value of 80 Baht.
What a joke!.

Any of you guys been fined for not carrying a spare tyre?
For your info, this is also an offence. Doesn't matter if it is inflated or not; just that you must have one at all times.

Thanks for the advise to move my address to Bangkok and submit my application to the SB there.
I did some telephone calls to the SB in Bangkok and seems that this is the best option I have to start my application process.
Will consider having this done soon.
Thanks for advise.
