  1. Yeah, blocking Facebook, not a good idea. How old is she, you can try and monitor her Facebook account, have her give you her password for a while, tell her if she can prove there is no bad dealings on Facebook with her friends then she can have her online freedom once again. Teenagers are smart, look for signs of a second account being created. All in all though blocking Facebook or social media in general will create a larger rift between the 2 of you than adolescence already has. Then also by the way your post is worded, I wonder if it is really your daughter and not maybe a live in girlfriend or wife that you may be a little jealous of? If that is the case and a lack of trust is involved either solve your insecurities or part ways.

  2. 50,000 should be enough, but all depends on if you also require medical care. That can be coslty and existing conditions will not be insured.

Can't advise on where you want to live, would also depend on if you need medical care and what kind. Big cities and especially the popular tourist destinations have many private hospitals, up country you have government hospitals with a lot less specialities. Priincial capitals have better utilized government hospitals.

Close to an airport normally means Bangkok and surroundings or Chiang Mai, while places as Phuket and Samui als have an airport.

Given your age your only option is to go and study, doesn't have to be Thai language, or try to find a job.

I would rent first and see if you really want to live in this country, before buying a condo.

My health issues are mainly just maintenance on 2 slipped vertebrae right now they are managed pretty well but in a few years I may be in for more complications as well as arthroscopic surgery in a few years on my knees. As I stated though the VA will ultimately cover those.

  3. I am 34, Disabled Veteran, soon to be also on SSDI (American) I would like to live and settle in Thailand.

    1. I have guaranteed income enough to survive off of and extra (50k bt plus per month)

    2. Is buying air (condo above first floor) a real option?

    3. What area of Thailand is recommended, decent health care, relatively close to an airport, not yet consumed by tourist?

    4. Is an Ed-Visa the best way to start?

Yes, I already know for Social Security issues and VA issues the Philippines, Manila office on Roxas is the closest point. I was married to a filippina and can say the VA system there for the most part is geared toward the WWII vets still and will change after the Korean Conflict Era pass it is sad but it is a reality there. But my basic needs and appointments are easy enough to schedule around and a couple of days there will not kill me or break my budget every 6 months.

  4. Some one should go through and delete so many troll postings.

In the situation you get the good with the bad.

    1. the philippine long stayers will turn to fixers for a while

    2. there are some real and then there are fake backpackers

    3. The criminals will sadly find away

    4. yeah back to back (same day) runs not really a good thing it invites abuse of the system

    5. this is for the under 50 crowd, 10 million baht is a steep amount to invest, Thailand is a good country to settle in currently. No I will not debate which area is best. Get in good with some friends get find some long time farangs that can explain the local way for you every town runs differently and you will find the best Visa solution for you all in due time. Ed Visas can extend up to 3 years, I will be getting a 1 year on my next trip.

Be smart stay safe and clean, Respect the Thai non-gov citizen maybe create your own next up and coming district

  5. rolleyes.gif I know for a fact that there are a number of what you could call "backpackers" who often fly into Thailand without a visa.

Then they go overland or by air to Vietnam, Cambodia, or Laos; and return to Thailand by land (Bus from Ho Chi Minh City to Phnom Penh and then to Bangkok overland is a popular route).

Many of them never get a Thai visa, just assuming they will get a second visa free entry to Thailand at the border crossing from Cambodia into Thailand.

Many of them are going to be surprised.

From my experience many of them are young Europeans who haven't had to use a "visa" in the EU since the EU started and really don't know why they need a "visa" anyhow.

    It might get interesting.

Those are not doing in/out visa run. They go to other countries and come back weeks later. Immigration is talking about back to back

    Incorrect I believe.

Yes the "Current" focus is on back-back same day same hour Visa runners

  6. Often genuine tourists who came in on a 30 day visa free entry stamp, decide to extend their holiday and do a visa run for an additional 15/30 days stamp. I hope it remains possible for them to do this, just once or even twice. These people should not be affected by this measure which is directed against people who reside in Thailand permanently without a proper visa. But maybe only practice will show how this pans out, unless authorities clarify further.

This is actually going to affect those the most because they will have to cross stay overnight at minimum and then return

  8. Oh dear!

I'm just caught in the middle of it now.

I have a legit Non Immigrant 90 days Visa expiring this coming May 13th.

A few days ago I pre-paid for a Visa Run, to Ranong, this coming Monday May 12ve.

And actually I just need a minimum 7 days extension since circumstances made that I am leaving (for good) for another country this Saturday May 17th.

    What should I do now?

a- Go to the Visa Run anyway and risk it.

b- Get my money back from the Visa Run company and drive my motorbike to immigration office in Phuket Town this Monday and beg for an extension

Anybody got real official information to suggest?

    TKS

If you have a legit non imm 90 day and you only need 7 days extension go to your local immigration office pay 1900 baht and get a legal 7 day extension, no need to beg.

Sent from my GT-N7100 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

If you are near Patong there is an immigration shack just north of Bangla on the Beach Rd side. its open fro 10-3 pm weekdays

  9. Ok, as this policy is brand new, it appears that the border personnel are following it above and beyond, meaning they are going to be stopping everyone until monday afternoon when they have better instruction of how to follow this from the Bangkok office. What this may mean even those with actual visas may not permitted to border cross as the one reply from Mae Sai on Americans, and Canadians with various visas not being permitted to exit Thailand stated. This thread was meant to be informative and to compile info from others to verify the extent of the enforcement of this new policy. Currently my advice for the week if you can fly, come back after a day or two, the on arrival is renewed and there will be no problems the problem is same day, same hour runs that do nothing for either countries economies. Go to a consulate or embassy on your trip and get a visa with extensions, break the cycle for a few months and test the waters after the next policy hits in August. I will be returning to Thailand in September ayer I depart in June, I will get an Ed Visa, it seems easy enough and worth the money to avoid the visa run hassle.

  10. I am up for my exit and re-entry stamp for my Non-Imm B visa tomorrow. Bus ticket already purchased. I'm hoping it's just tourist visa people and not those possessing actual visas.

This is bad news for many.

    Oh Thailand....

It is not related to people who have a proper visa, like you. So no need to worry.

Hey all I have a big issue! I'm at the border in Mae Sai and they aren't letting anyone through! They are saying new regulations we can only fly out of the country and won't let me cross into Myanmar. Anyone know what's up?? This is for everyone here mostly Canadian and American on different types of visas

  11. So is what you are saying that the Thai authorities won't let you exit Thailand or is it the Myanmar authorities that won't let you enter?

As I understand it you are saying it's the Thai authorities that won't let you leave or enter.

In other words they have closed the border crossing starting today?

    Please advise.

I realize it is a stressful situation, but please be as specific as you can.

We want to pass on the clearest news we can to others using this forum.

Senior Members post said they are not being allowed to leave Thailand to enter Myanmar. The owner of the Visa run company stated that their passengers were told the same.
