  1. I'm a UK citizen, with 2 1-year Business visas and the most recent a 6-month METV in my passport and all used heavily with 3-4 week trips between entries.

Am now doing the decent thing ???? and getting married and will go for a multiple entry non-o visa based upon marriage in Savannakhet.

My METV runs out mid Jan 2019 and just discovered the next appointment available for affirmation from the embassy is early Feb 2019!!

No problem leaving for 3-4 weeks, but am looking for a recommendation as to what visa to get to come back in Feb, just to get married before I hop over to Savannakhet.

SETV? Should I expect any problems given all my previous entries?

    Many Thanks

  2. When HSBC start asking questions like that, you are on a list for account closure. I know from 1st hand experience. HSBC in particular are actively closing UK accounts for non-UK residents as they offer their HSBC Expat product as a replacement and they are under pressure from the US to show they are closing accounts that may be involved in money laundering, so they use this as their smoke and mirrors trick. To have an HSBC Expat account you will need to prove residency and tax registration (where applicable) in your new country and maintain a high minimum balance.

Not all UK banks are the same, but in principle only UK/EU tax residents may have "free" UK bank accounts. Some banks ask more questions than others. Barclays now specifically ask (twice) to confirm you are full time UK resident and NOT resident in another country, when you open a new account. ALL other banks will still ask for proof of UK address when you open a NEW account.

Some banks have previously offered UK accounts to UK citizens who are currently non-EU-resident (usually for work reasons) and they may or may not charge you for this. This practice is now getting closer attention - be warned. Just because your banking is working now, they can see your transactions, your IP when you login, and this will eventually lead to questions from your bank.

The only solution that "seems" to work for now is maintaining a UK address (family will do) but get as much as you can sent by post to that address. Electoral roll helps as does council tax.

Let see now,You first use one reason to keep the car "I paid for an illegal car but since I will be out the money, you should have pity on my loss and be excused from turning the car back". When that didn't work there is always the ole stand by" Do you know (insert your own here) Who my father/brother/son/uncle is?,What my  position is?,Who I was in politics before"

    ?

I was too stupid/connected to question why the car was so cheap....help me

  4. I have a Monzo card and it works well, support is great - I got them to increase my limits very easily through the app.

For verification you will need a photo ID and a proof of address ID. This is usually a passport and UK driving licence.

They don't come out and say it, technically you should be a UK resident, but the driving licence does the trick.

Starling are not yet issuing bank accounts nor are Atom, but again they are technically for UK residents. Some banks are more specific: Barclays ask the question directly twice! Most regular banks want to see that either you are on the electoral roll or you have an existing UK credit card or other bank account.

  5. It wouldn't too difficult to make them register for tax and display the license, after all, tax inspectors and police eat at those vendors as well - easy to check!

Right now the only "rent" they pay is to the local law enforcement, but moving them into shops generates income for hi-so land owners. So no surprise they started on Ekkamai and Thong Lor. Many owners don't want/need to sell up for condo development just yet.

  6. Am sitting on Sairee beach...bib were visiting restaurants last night and hanging round the spot....even saw one pick up a coconut and gave a good investigation!

There is no increase in general security apart from 6 bib videoing everyone arriving on the ferry at Chomporn....this horse has surely bolted

  7. Just went into the London embassy this morning and was refused a retirement visa.

My bank statements show income from a number of sources and for different amounts. I explained that I was a semi-retired consultant on some retainers and some commissions so the amounts varied from month to month. After checking with boss, she came back and told me that as I was still "working" I would not be able to have a retirement visa. I either need to show the THB800,000 in a bank (UK or Thai) or show my PENSION income. I am 51 and explained that it would be illegal in the UK for me to be collecting any kind of UK pension (55 is the earliest).

Anyway, she happily recommended a triple entry 60 day tourist visa, which I accepted, as I travel regularly.

I will probably try applying in Bangkok where I expect the "rules" to be a little different.

  8. Not a big problem:

Most countries have some kind of registration system for pre-paid (photocopy of ID or password).

App won't be possible as there are too many phones that don't work like that.

50% of the registrations submitted by 7-11 gals will have the wrong ID photocopy attached to the sim

The real "terrorists" will simply have someone else register their phone for them....I can even see some of the 7-11 staff offering to do that for 100bhat! Much easier paperwork for them haha

  9. "International Alarm" is crazy....

Appreciate what you have, especially with curfew starting to lift.

If we were in any Middle East Country, the thought police would have rounded up and jailed/deported most of the commentators on TV already! And that's just in places where there has been no coup....

Having decided to do something, the General has gone about it in a logical, measured and non-blood thirsty way. Good on him and long may it continue...

    I mean TVF.....no the telly

  11. This extraordinary period in Thai history continues to set a new pace, as developments unfold quickly. Trying to sift through the news is the main challenge, and trying to verify such reporting in other publications is an added challenge. What we do know is that the Senate is functioning, and that is a key indicator and a very promising one at that. The courts similarly. It will likely take a number of days before things become clearer. The first aspect of the administration of this coup is clearly to secure control. Once that has been established, some path will likely emerge. But it is remarkable the change that has already taken place. There has been no violence or resistance. The PDRC remains jubilant.

Well we don't know if there has been no violence or resistance because there is no news.

That's the main reason why the TV is off!
