Hit by a semi truck that ran a red light. The day they took the pins out I was riding again. Nothing was left of the pcx. Full riding gear full face helmet and riding jacket. My big insurance settlement 120,000 baht plus 40,000 for pcx and all bills paid including taxi rides for 3 months My arm was amputated held on by the skin, I'm pretty close to 100% with my arm 1.5 years later. It still hurts after working all day.

Any chance you could tell us what the total of your medical bills was.  There are a lot of threads running at the moment about insurance.  You obviously had a serious injury, would be very interesting if you could tell us where you were treated and what the resulting bills were.

I wish you all the very best for your recovery.

Spoke to a Thai friend yesterday who is a legitimate receptionist at a medium sized hotel that used to cater for Russians, but now cater for Chinese.  She told me the Chinese tour guides are now offering girls to the rooms, unseen, although I suspect some photos must be shown to the customer.

No bar fines to me made.  No lady drink commissions to be made.  I'm sure the Chinese tour guide, aka, pimp, takes a commission.  Surely a sign of the times here, with more to come in the future..

Nothing new.  I was in a massage shop nearly three years ago and a guide came in and requested the three prettiest girls go with him to massage chinese clients in their rooms.  All of these girls said no way, but there were three over 50 ugly and broke lasses who went along.  I knew one of these old girls very well, when she came back I asked how was it and she replied "yag uak".

The interest in visiting Thailand was also brought about by a successful Chinese comedy film called 'Lost in Thailand', where several Chinese tourists have a checklist of famous places to visit in Thailand, and check each one off as they visit it.

Hmmm...a chinese version of "The Beach" then...

  4. Fantastic news.  And it is going to be all finished by 2020.  I will have to mark that date in my diary so that I can be the first to ride on it.

And I love the photo mockup from the road that runs in front of Vichira.  Currently that road only has two lanes.  Not sure where the other four in the photo are going to materialize from.

I still can't believe it, in just three short years there will be a electric tram running the full length of Phuket and out to the airport as well.

No doubt they will use Thai electricity that will not be phased by the flooded roads in wet season.

And of course those carriages float.

Oh...and why doesn't the mockup show a huge crack across the windscreen like the one that the taxi drivers put in the windscreen of the airport bus...

My wife sells real estate and puts listings on English sites and on Kaidee. When they expire on Kaidee she puts them on again. They are the same properties listed elsewhere and often relistings not a flood of new listings.

No that is not correct.  I have been reviewing these sites for years.  I know if a property is a relist.

Fact is, it wasn't hard to keep track because there were so few properties.  That is not the case nowadays however.

  6. I also see from the Thai websites that a lot of condo owners are already starting to reduce their prices in developments in Kathu and Phuket town.  A year or so ago they were aiming for >1.5m.  Now I see the same properties relisted for <1.25m.

I'll just interject here about the "thousands of listings on property websites".  Fact of the matter is most sites never update anything sold, rented or taken off the market.

No that is not correct.  As I already posted earlier, I never review English language website for property because if any thing is already in the hands of a foreigner it is overpriced.

The Thai sites that I review are currently being flooded with new property listings.  And whether or not anything is never taken down is a spurious issue as I always sort listings by the Newest criteria.

That will explain why the land office is so busy then nothing changing hands???

Of course, if you had any real experience in Thailand you would now that just because a Government office is looking busy, does not mean that any work is getting done.  Efficiency is always displaced in favor creating conditions that help to elicit tea money.

  9. The other observation that I would make, is that mob mentality here in Thailand is much more pronounced than in western countries.  Thus, I would assume, if the current flood of Thais selling land does turn into a rush for the exit...the change will happen very quickly, and it is going to be a blood bath.

  10. I was looking at some more bare land yesterday.  As I have mentioned earlier on there is a somewhat of a flood coming on the market at the moment from Thai Mom and Pop owners.  I was speaking to one older Thai guy yesterday that has four parcels for sale.  He said he is trying to sell because he is concerned that the baht will crash soon (wants to buy gold) and that the government, now that it has introduced the new land tax, will seek to increase it every few years.

In my investor news live stream this morning there is a note that property owners will have to pay for the appraisals required to commence the new land tax payments.

  11. Here is a new line of debate if anyone is interested.

I should be able to contribute something to the discussion...I am a published author on the topic of analysis of variance in primary and secondary destination images.

There is a good deal of talk about how the Chinese are now propping up tourist numbers in Patong.

However, I would like to see the stats on RETURN visits by Chinese.

In the past many visitors from Germany, Scandi, Australia, UK and other such countries revisited regularly each year, and in some cases for decades.

There are lots of Chinese arriving, but how many of them are going to come back a second time?   Sooner or later this relatively new source of visitors will run dry.

People on tourist visa's are not expats and never will be...

    Pfftt....

One of my closest expat friends from Phuket, who was there 12 years, is head of server deployment for a global corporation and works from home.  He worked online from his home office and never had a non O or work visa.  He has now moved to another country because of the increasing difficult visa situation and the Juntas one internet gateway plans.

Another three long term expats I know from Phuket (all oil and gas)  were 11,14 and 15 years on Phuket, on thirty day rosters. All under 50 and always on tourist visas.  One now in Malaysia, the other two in Indo.

Funny that you cannot understand that if you have money, building now is a lot cheaper than in 10 or 20 years !

And no property tax in Thailand, so you do not need to rush to rent !

Never wondered why certainly 100000+ condos are built but nobody care renting them in BKK ?

It explains why many of you have never been able to make any money in this country !

Hang on a minute, you are failing to factor in the time value of the capital used to build the houses, and the fact that there is zero return on that capital (in fact negative actually if you take upkeep and the pending land tax into consideration).

  14. I have been going to cockfights regularly both here and in other neighbouring countries for about 30 years now.  The deal here with cockfighting is that it is only deemed legal if the relevant provincial authorities say it is ok.  That's why it is allowed in some provinces and not in others.  The reason it was outlawed in Phuket was that the local poo yais were worried about backlash from visiting international tourists regarding animal cruelty.

Just off Phuket on the mainland, the big stadium on the left hand side of the road just before Ban Krasom used to get packed with more than a dozen bouts on the fight card.

I have a muslim friend down in the floating village at Lam Suk.  He introduced me to the huge meets at Ban Thung just north of Krabi and Ban Sawan along the super highway on the way to Surat.  Both those venues are caged stadiums with heavy security on the single entrance gate.  Hundreds of thousands (perhaps millions) of baht change hands.  Some of the punters sitting in the first row ringside have wads of 1000 baht notes almost too large to hold in ones hand.  I saw one fight were the pool for the winner (that is the side bets ponied up by each of the two owners) was 250,000 baht.

I love the energy and authenticity of these events, very few women, if any, and extremely rare to encounter another farang.

One time at the stadium at Ban Sawan, Carabao and his entourage showed up, black prime mover truck with slick trailer (think racing car team).

Here in the south the fights are all about the money, the birds are fitted with razor sharp knives on their spurs, and the losing bird gets its leg chopped off for its trouble.  One round only and the birds fight to the death.

Far more interesting are the fights in the remote far north east.  There are no knives fitted to the birds and they spar in several timed rounds.  Between the rounds the owners artfully stitch the wounds up on their birds and tidy them up for the next round.  A fantastic authentic cultural event.  And the chickens get to go home, even if they win, or lose.

As you work in the dive industry, you should know there has been a sharp increase of the heinous crime of "fish feeding" on Phuket in 2017.   :cheesy:

Like I have said, I have noticed an increase in "crimes reported in the media."  Something of concern is the violence attached to these crimes, which, in my opinion, has increased.

Scroll down the first couple of pages in the Phuket News Forum.  You will see the various threads are mostly crime and death related.   I don't remember it being that bad in the past.

So, has crime increased, or has the reporting of crime in the media increased?  Crime has always been reported on here, so I doubt the media has suddenly decided to focus on reporting crime on Phuket.  Either way, I reading about more crimes being committed here, and those crimes have occurred here.

And of course there may be some merit in also arguing that if crime is trending up, the authorities will do everything to ensure that the reporting of it is trending down...

Hey btb/bulldozer.  You never did follow up on that great piece of land in Phang Nga you were on about for so long, then when someone asked you how that went there was nothing but crickets.

There is a report on other threads if you follow my posts.  Bought and currently rented out.

Gave up on that thread because of numpties posting doom and gloom garbage.

I would like to meet the member BlackCab in person.  I gather he works in property in Bangkok.  He gave some very good input.

And I have no idea what BTB is, if it if a former member, it was never me...
