  1. So he also refused to use the ATM's in Thailand and brought a lot of cash. Well done mate! It's pure theft to let us pay 180 baht for using ATM's.

Actually in a previous trip to Australia it was a $6 ATM fee to access your account from a competitors ATM, so i dont think that fee would have shocked him so much.

If he was a one off tourist to Thailand he was probably carrying the bulk of his money around because he obviously didnt have a Thai account and presumed the banks here would gouge you for every fee they can and also rip you off on the exchange rate..like they do in Australia.

Its $6 now? Wow thats gone up quickly. 3 years ago it was $2.

Its still, between $2.00 for banks and $2.50 for other financial institutions, and that information is as of today in Perth.

Why is the boat at Laem Ka when returning from Phi Phi?

OK Clever Boy.....so you have knowledge of the area so why the stupid question....are you asking anyone in particular or just trying to be a smart Ass ???
So a question that points out either the report is incorrect or the quoted person is incorrect is stupid?

The rock on which the boat was inadvertently impaled, has been visible at low tide since it was created long before Thais came to Thailand and has been on Thai Marine charts since the Royal Thai Hydrographic Department was created. It is not on any direct route from Phi Phi island to Chalong Bay but may have been included (not intentionally) in a private tour of the bay by the "well qualified" captain who purchased his ticket from Khun Phuripat of Marine Division 5, for B5,000!.

  3. Very odd.. I use Firefox for SCB all the time, just checked and it's fine for me. Do you have adblock or similar running?

    Many thanks for this post!!

I have been unable to access my account via the internet for some months now. I have been to my branch and they have mucked around with the settings and still no joy, so I have subsequently made my Kasikorn Bank account my "go to" account for online transactions.

I just tried your suggestion regarding the ad blocker and voila! I have access again.

I will still continue to avoid SCB online banking due to past poor performance - and the fact that Kasikorn have a very good internet credit card.

  4. I too have been having problems in Chalong with the 10 meg package. Pity as has been real god for the last few years - only last 4 weeks or so.

hum, well i just got the 13mb package and according to speed test i am now getting 13 down 1 up, but the problem was never speed, its more timeouts when going to web pages. sounds like Thailand internet sucks at the moment.

Been having the same problem with TOT so have just given them the a###. It seems as if they are being throttled and it may have something to do with recent events in Bangkok. To solve the problem, I am now using my phone as a hotspot and am getting more reliable and similar internet speeds (at a lower price incidentally!!) than using TOT 6mb. My pocket is now 800+ baht per month better off as a result!

  5. Wonder if the locals ever protested the tin dredging that went on for decades and ruined all the east-coast beaches.

    Bet they didn't.

Yep, one hundred years of tin dredging never stirred these souls off their butts. They have forgotten or never knew the fact that there were beautiful coral gardens all down the east coast of Phuket and that Chalong Bay was deep enough to anchor a Japanese fleet in during World War 2 prior to this dredging.

When I first arrived in Phuket they were still sea dredging for tin off Bang Tao beach and Ao Makham. Not a dicky bird was heard then either.

I wonder what has happened since???

  6. It might be interesting to note that all boats entering Singapore are required to have an AIS transponder aboard. It is even possible to rent transponders for temporary stayers. This means that many boats that come here from Singapore already have the equipment aboard anyway and many local pleasure boat owners are starting to fit them. Its just the locally owned and operated tour boats that don't have it that will squeal the loudest.

  7. Maybe you are all talking about another office that I am unaware of because it took me from 11am until 4pm today to do my annual extension. Words elude me as to how to describe the cluster .....

After today's experience I must concur with this. Took me 2 hours for what usually takes me 10 minutes. I thought that I had returned to the old days of 20 years ago when there were only about 3 front desk officers for all the various tasks.

I saw one officer catching up on Facebook on his tablet and another was filling in the crossword in a magazine!!!

  8. Try a Lalizas agent. I just looked at the catalogue and they have a portable chemical toilet made of HDP (high density polyethylene) with a 12 litre fresh water flush and either a 10 or 20 litre holding tank. The measurements are 41cm deep by 35.5cm wide and 31 cm high. The product would have to be ordered from Bangkok and quite possible if they don't have stock, imported from wherever, so not immediately available.

PM me if you have a problem.

  9. Try the Bluescope web site. I believe that they have a factory in Hat Yai and one in Khon Khaen. They produce a Colorbond Fence that is widely used in Australia, which is easy to build and comes in various colours.

  10. Why would you bother trying to ship a small aircooled Honda engine to the UK when somebody else has already done it for you. Check out the Honda engine suppliers in the UK nearest to your abode. If you want something bigger then the other engines that are used are the Yanmar and Kubota 10 - 15 Hp stationery engines (all of them are!). They have just been modified to fit the Itaan or longtail.smile.png Cheers!

  11. Just an idea for you.

Why not make your own and then you know exactly how it was made and you can change the recipes to suit yourself.

    I do.

Have to agree billd766. Been making my own smoked ham, bacon and sausages for some time now and would not buy these items any more. My daughter loves it and the wife doesn't - except the sausages when I do a batch of spicy Italian.

Do all my smoking in the Weber (look alike) and all the pork from Macro when its at 125 baht per kg.

  12. Good question OP. Maybe you could throw in a poll?

21 years and counting,14 years on phi phi island before they destroyed it.good post

off topic,i new an aussie called guy, used to work with sunsail,in the early 90s.i remember he worked with a guy call Nigel. anyone know if he is still around??

Yes, still here. 22 years and counting. Came here as a young man and it doesn't look like I'll be leaving anytime soon. BOBBYTIN, PM me and we'll have a beer for old times sake.

  13. My wife just told me last week that she was intrigued by the signs above items in the stalls in the "Expo Market" in Phuket town not far from the Royal Phuket City Hotel.

In one particular example of a product that she was looking at, the card said "99/990". She was advised that the price of 99 Baht was for Thai people and the 990 baht was for foreigners. Further investigation by her yielded the information that this appeared to be standard practise many of the stalls in the area.

I am sure that you can come to your own conclusions in this.

  14. In another life I was a farmer in Australia and as Ozzdom says, we used a disc plow to make the contour bank on a line that had been laid out using the simple plastic hose (ladarp nam) and wooden pegs to mark the contour with about a 1" drop every 30 feet (25mm every 10 metres.). The distance between contours was determined by the degree of the slope i.e. the steeper the slope the closer the contours. The contour was made by throwing the earth up the slope in 3-4 passes and another final pass down the slope from above the berm previously formed. This ensured that there was a clean flat area above the berm where the water could gather and slowly make its way towards the end of the contour without scouring.

Hope this may help. Happy New Year.

  15. Just for all the speculators, keyboard warriors and other equally unqualified people who are or will view this thread, the reason that this man died was due to suicide. This was established long before the "flatfeet" arrive to muddy the scene. The clues leading to this conclusion were that certain prior effort was made to ensure that this would be a successful act. The reasons for this very well liked and respected man to decide to take his life, will never be known. I am proud to say that he was a friend and work mate of mine, and many others and my sympathy goes out to his wife and family. RIP Les.

  16. A re-entry permit is required if you want to keep your curuent permisison to stay alive. Without a re-entry permit, you would have to apply for a new visa.

I think you misread. Only with a valid multiple entry visa is a re-entry permit not required, as long as you return to Thailand before the visa expires.

Many thanks for that. I will continue to follow my original plan.

  17. I have a Non Imm. O, valid until October 2011. In the past I have always gone and purchased a re-entry permit before leaving the country, in order not to disturb the visa. However, just recently, and I can't find it again, one of the Mods posted on here that in the case of a single Non Imm O, that a re-entry was not required. I am now confused (easily in my case) and would like to know whether this is indeed correct.

  18. I have had three Mazda's over the past 20 years, one ute, a Mazda 3 (best car I have ever owned!) and now a Mazda 2. I have found that the dealership has always maintained the car extremely well and the price has always been cheap. I will never take my car to a Thai "mechanic" who operates outside as I have seen far too many poorly repaired vehicles (and boats - I work in the marine industry). Mazda in Phuket are very well thought of by owners.
