  1. OMG

Time to move to Myanmar, Vietnam, Malaysia, or Cambodia, who all encourage foreign devils to invest in land.

It reminds me of Switzerland in the 1960's when the German hordes were stealing our beautiful Alps.

Fortunately, that huge injection of capital made our poor little country, with fewer inhabitants than Bangkok, so rich that we can now buy it back at a discount.

That off course will never happen in Thailand, because the money from land sales will go straight to Switzerland.

The big difference is that we invested our windfall gains in a world class education system and lean, efficient bureaucracy, while Thailand invests it in Mercedes-Benz's, Swiss watches and smart London apartments.

Please keep up the good work..

'Bought' my ChiangMai house quite legally several years ago with my Thai wife signing usufrucht

(allowing foreigner rez for life; no changes to property or sale of same without Falang written approval)..

.......sticky wicket 4 the zealous Thai EnfArcement Brigade, methinks.

  2. No place for this in any university anywhere in the world. Sadly, all too common.

You'd expect a university to be different from the real world?

Universities are the real world. I'm not sure why people often refer to them as otherwise. It takes all bits and pieces to make up the 'real world'. That of course is a much deeper discussion.

And yes, I expect educated University lecturers to behave.

My expectations are often not met.

Thank you for my first real laugh of the day......

I wonder why so many employers despair of the lack of worldliness they hire with new Graduate employees in too many cases...hmmmmm :)

  3. Like most people, i am fed up with hearing about these poor little innocent girls being trafficked for sex. What absolute rubbish.

Virtually every girl in the prostitution business in Thailand is doing it for the easy money.Who wants to work for 100 baht a day in the rice paddys and chilli fields when you can give an old German pensioner oral sex for 20 minutes for 500 baht.

If youre lucky maybe marriage is on the cards. Take farangs money and assets and dump him. Happens every day here.

There is a Briton on this forum today wanting to remit 10 million baht here for a house....unbelievable.

In my 12 years in LOS, I have seen countless 'rip-off relationships' and 'manufactured marriages'....for dosh, house and (Thai) family profit.

BUT I am lucky to be in the 13th year of a challenging (cultural differences) marriage with two lovely young kids and a strong-willed Akha Ulo Thai wife.

Yes, it can be hard work, but what marriage isn't?

I know for sure that my wife May, was being strongly pressured to go on the game by her village family when I first met her in 2000 and, with the abundant comments here about the available $$, who can blame the almost inevitable career choice many of these girls/guys make..

Try before you buy is a cynical but well-placed maxim.

  4. i recently got a non o 1 yr visa from the consulate in auckland on the strength of having a thai son... when i asked the requirement they said i could get a 1 yr non o just by showing 3 $3000.00 in bank in new zealand and having a ticket to thailand... so who needs a kid anyway???

Same experience..... simple application.....and swift...... Thai Consulates are very helpful in my experience if you are in your own country,........took me 15 minutes to get my last Non Imm 'O' in Hull :)

  5. Just the same as any other meat. Don't know why people find it so shocking.

The funny thing about the article is the contradiction....its says "The cultures of other ASEAN countries such as Singapore, Indonesia and the Philippines were highly influenced by the West and theoretically don't have such preferences" but then goes onto say..." It has been reported that such tastes can be found in Thailand, Burma, Laos, Vietnam, and Cambodia".......Burma, Vietnam and Cambodia were all colonies and influenced by the West as well !!

Finally Thailand is becoming a regional hub for something.....devouring Rats....well done Thailand.....TAT can use this in a new promotion "Come to Thailand and eat rat"

Perhaps an agency should be created: RAT- Rodents Are Thailand? Just a thought.

  6. Not to wish ill on any soul, and not to add to the page if it is before his time, but someone just told me that The Andy Gill had passed on.....

However you feel/felt about Andy, he is/was a character...

Any one know any thing about this...... last I heard he was living in UK or back in Europe//

Greetings gonzo and thanks for the thread topic, for all of the reasons given and the reminder of ones own mortality.

Am back in Blighty at the mo' and will creak open the old grey matter and see what names emerge - am normally so far behind the curve that all I see is straight trail wai.gif

Regards to All for their pained or pleasured contributions,

  7. Of course - I've no idea why NamKangMan doesn't believe you as most TV members are married/going out with college educated women earning a good salary.

(Although a "5 figure monthly baht salary" is not necessarily excellent - it depends on whether you are talking about 10,000 or 99,000!).

I am naturally delighted for every one of them. Certainly, everything is relative, particularly veracity on the Web.....so your comments are not out of bounds.

    .....obviously.

  8. Living in Thailand for 17 years and STILL had to get a friend's TGF to speak to the bank!

    Learn some Thai my man!!

ความคิดที่ดี - a good idea? I love these free translation services. Ching ching / Chai?

Possibly, maybe, as it were. wai.gif

But this tonal stuff in the verbal Thai language does guarantee a laugh on many an occasion IMO , no? yes? don't give a fug?

    Wiedersehen,

    Brewsta

    Greetings Brewsta.

off topic... why do you sign all your posts at the end 'Brewsta'?

It is obvious you have posted your own post, if you know what i mean.

I'm not sure why people do this.

    BookMan

Fair point well made and salutations back , Mr Bookman.

I guess it's habit from signing off work stuff? I am the same with salutations and (sometimes) greetings.

As Basil noted about Sybil in Fawlty Towers .....(sic.) "my wife Sybil, mistress of stating the bl**din' obvious...." or something like that, anyway.

In my case, it's: "To you....here's the Word....from me." No confusion or misunderstandings that way and maybe get the right result, etc .

    Regards & stay safe,

Brewsta [Da** it - done it again!]
