  1. Hi all,

Respectfully seeking advice on the title subject from those with (reasonably) recent experience.

Live in Hua Hin but willing to travel. Received a estimation of 53- 86k baht for the pre-procedure and both procedures from local branch of Bangkok Hospital. Doesn't include meds, follow up, complications etc. Bottom end of that (53k) seems higher but similar to other figures I've seen quoted by BKK hospitals but wanting to avoid an blank cheque scenario. 30k spread seems to make an estimation pretty pointless especially as I am self funding.

Any info. regarding quality of service and care, pricing (actual and in comparison to estimate) and specialist clinics that may be good but less dugitally visible to farangs would be thankfully received. Had some MRIs done at a clinic in BKk recently with latest technology and medical interpretation  for 50% of main player quotes (BH, Bumungrad etc.)

    Many thanks

Immigration does not change tourist visa entries to a non-o visa based upon being a member of the family of a person on a extension based upon retirement.

    Understood.

Could she get a tourist visa and obtain her own retirement extension in Thailand?

I understand she would need her own 800k seasoned before application in her own named a/c and other usual requirements.

    Thanks again.

I assume you wifes re-entry permit issued for a extension of stay based upon working is expiring soon. A work permit does not allow her to stay in the country or to enter.

She could get a non-o visa for being a member of your family if your extension and re-entry permit is still valid. She would need to get it before entering Thailand. And then she could apply for a extension of stay.

At this time though she would not be able to enter the country for being a member of your family. She would not be able to apply for a certificate of entry since that reason for enter the country is not allowed. That is subject to change at any time though.

    Thanks ubonjoe.

You are correct about her extension and reentry permit.

If she is not able to get the O here in the UK right now, could she re-enter on a tourist visa and be added to my retirement extension back in Thailand?

    What would be the process?

    Thanks

  4. Dear All,

We are a UK couple (55 and 56) currently in the UK.

I have an extension based on retirement expiring next May, a reentry permit and necessary funds in a Thai bank in my sole name for the next extension.

My wife has a WP expiring soon and is unlikely to be back in Thailand in time to renew it.

Our hope is to get back to Thailand before my extension expires and add my wife to it as my dependent. We have the necessary marriage documentation.

Seeking advice on the easiest, least expensive and most reliable way to achieve this outcome visa wise either from here in the UK or in Thailand.

    Many thanks for any help.

  5. We are a pair of Brits (1 with WP, one with Retirement Visa) currently stranded in the UK. Read and understood all latest posts on the "Returning to Thailand" subject. Been in touch with the Thai Embassy, London and have their list of requirements:-

"What you need to submit to the Embassy to apply for the certificate of entry to Thailand :
    - Your passport copy
    - A copy of your Thai visa (if already expired, you have to apply for a new one)
    - A copy of your work permit (even if it is already expired, which you have to extend in Thailand), or a copy of letter of permission to work in Thailand from a Thai government agency
    - A copy of letter from your employer (or yourself if you own a company) that you need to return to work in Thailand
    - Declaration form (as attached), duly completed and signed
    - A copy of your health insurance policy with coverage including COVID-related treatment in Thailand in the amount no less than 100,000 USD (or a company letter certifying that they will pay for your medical expenses including COVID-19"
Starting the process and hoping I will be allowed to join my WP holding wife with my RV. If you don't ask right?

Does anyone have FIRST HAND knowledge of companies offering the required insurance (stipulating Covid)? Preferably in the UK but any leads appreciated. Also, does anyone know what period the authorities are requiring the insurance should cover (travel only, quarantine, length of visa)?

Regarding flights, does anyone know of WP holders who have returned via the repatriation flights to date? How did they arrange this? I am presuming this is offered by the Embassy once permission to return is granted as there are no other passenger flights.

Any information from those who are, or have gone through the process is much appreciated. Thanks.
Hoping anyone who wants to get back gets their wish asap.

  6. Bought a 2nd hand Fino about 4 years ago. Shop I bought it from was doing the test/tax for me annually but tax is due and shop has vanished and I'm unable to contact them. Bike is not in my name as I kept putting off doing it (avoid immigration whenever I can) but I have the green book and a copy of the signed transfer of ownership form but no ID copy. The bike is registered in BKK not Petchaburi/PKK where I live. I presume I can get the roadworthy test done anywhere? but how long is it valid for before I get the tax and do I have to tax it in a BKK DLT office? Also, is there a fix to get the bike in my name without the previous owner's ID copy? (have copy of the signed form as mentioned above).

    Any advice much appreciated.

  7. I have been allowed a yearly extension as a dependent on the wife's extension (work permit) for the past couple of years per earlier posts on this thread. The current one is valid until January. As my costs to maintain this arrangement have increased recently I am now wondering if immigration are likely to allow me to apply for a further extension based on retirement without leaving Hua Hin where we live. I meet all the other requirements for the retirement extension but am hoping I don't need to leave the country or apply for a visa. Any experiences or informed information would be much appreciated. Thanks.

  8. Is it possible to bring a dog across from Malaysia to Thailand via a land border. I am up with regulations and required paperwork for arriving into BKK by air as have done it in the recent past with my pooch but am looking at a new pup from Malaysia and wondering if anyone has recent experience or knowledge of a land crossing and what's involved? Many thanks for any advice.

  9. A work permit only allows a person to work it does not allow them to stay in the country. Only a visa or extension of stay allows that.

If you wife has an extension of stay from immigration you can get a dependent extension based upon her extension. Yours would be valid for the length of time remaining on hers when it is issued. When she gets a new one you would then apply for another extension.

Some immigration offices may allow you to change the reason for your extension for attending school to a dependent extension. If not you would have to go out for a single entry non-o visa.

You will need your marriage certificate in English or a certified translation of it to Thai to apply for the extension. You would also will need copies of your wife's passport photo page and extension stamp. Immigration may also want a letter from the company she is working for confirming she is still working for them.

Further to post above I have had it confirmed at immigration that I can get the extension with a certified Thai translation of my MC as stated by ubonjoe. Do I have to get this done at the British Embassy or are there other options?

  10. Hi,

My wife and I are UK passport holders living in Thailand. My wife has recently started teaching and has her work permit. I am currently 6 months into an ED visa and going tomorrow for my 2nd extension,

I have heard it is possible to attach myself to my wife's work permit as a dependent (not to work of course, just to be in Thailand). Is this correct and how do I go about it? Also, how do I manage that going into the future. Appreciate any current guidance on this. Thank You.

  11. Travelling to Vientianne hopefully next Sunday (August 3rd) which is last day of my TV.

Plan to drive car to the Friendship Bridge border, leave the car and carry on.

    2 queries

What is the latest time I will be able to get there (Sunday) and still be able to get a Visa on Arrival on the Laos side.

Is there a convenient spot to leave car there and will there be onward transport option to cross as I think there is no foot traffic?

    Many thanks

  12. You will not have a problem because you will be applying for a different class of visa than you have now.

They will not cancel you 2nd entry when you apply for an extension.. I just can't imagine how somebody came up with such nonsense.

Thanks for that reassurance ubonjoe. Do you think I might encounter any additional scrutiny coming back to Thailand having 2 classes of valid visa?

On the TV stamps, yes didn't sound right to me either but came from 2 separate credible language school sources and I was clear and questioned it. I have heard of IOs in the past only giving extensions of e.g.14 days when expecting 30 but never nicking an entry. Hope it is nonsense and just a misunderstanding.

  13. In light of current uncertainty with the visa situation I am planning to get an ED visa to study Thai and see me through until the end of next year whenIi should qualify for a retirement visa. Not doing anything but enjoying Thailand but stuck for now as under 50 with enough cash to live here comfortably enough.

Am currently coming to the end of my 1st 60 day entry on a triple entry tourist visa acquired in Europe. My concern is if I go to Laos and apply for my ED visa will I be refused as I still have 2 valid tourist entries to go on my tourist visa? I know I will be wasting those entries but am willing to do that to make my stay in Thailand more stable for the coming year.

As an aside I have been told that if I extend my 60 day TV at Immigration for a further 30 days they will stamp my 2nd TV entry as used leaving me with just 1 entry remaining? In the past I never heard of this.

Appreciate any comments/feedback on these issues. Thanks.
