  1. I believe the passport carrying allows for a photocopy to be carried AS LONG AS it is a certified copy (my guess is getting it stamped on entry at Immigration).  Anyone familiar with what qualifies as certified?

The Thaivisa news article yesterday specifically said that the only acceptable ID for foreigners to carry in Thailand is an original passport and also said that there is no such thing as a certified copy of a passport!

  2. Can anyone please clarify these new rules for me...
I'm not living in Thailand and when I travel to Thailand I usually stay in the LOS for a thirty days, I will usually stay in Bkk for a few days before going on to Pattaya, Chiang Mai, Phuket, Huahin etc. I mix it up every time so it doesn't get boring, on the arrival form I write in the first hotel I stay at in Bkk, there is not enough room on the form to write in all the hotels/location I will be staying at, so from now on will I have to report to the local police station every time I go somewhere new?
What about package tours, will everyone on a tour be required to call in at a local police station when they get to a new destination?

    the hotel notifies immigration

    24-hour reporting

Hua Hin Immigration is from today also enforcing the requirements that you and your landlord (condominium owner, house owner etc) must report to Immigration within 24 hours of moving in to a new address. On your arrival card you already reported your place of stay, and if that changes you need to visit Immigration and report your new address. This applies to both tourists and expats.

It says here that if a tourist moves on from the address that they wrote on their arrival card then they must visit immigration and report their new address!

  4. Hello everyone!

I will be in Thailand next month and I want to take a bus from Phuket to Hua-hin, I understand there's a Yellow bus the does that route but I think this is a fairly new route and I can't find any details online, I'll be staying in Patong, but I think the main bus terminal is in Phuket town, can I book a ticket for this bus in an ordinary travel shop in Patong and include some sort of transport from Patong to Phuket town in the price, any info would be appreciated! How long does it take? what time does it depart Phuket? Where does it pick up in Phuket? What is the fare?

  6. I've stayed at the Areca lodge loads of times, great hoteI, I stopped staying there because they hiked the prices about 4 years ago, I've just been looking at Diana Oasis online and it looks really great, which room/studio would you recomend?

  7. Hello all!

I know there are a few threads similar to this one here but I'm looking for up to date info, I haven't been to Pattaya for a year, I'm looking for a new or newish hotel for 9 days in September, not too far from the center, budget between 1000-1200 baht a night, in room safe box, no joiner fee and a pool woulld be nice, any ideas?

  8. Re: Minivan from Hua-hin to Pattaya, anyone travelled this way recently? I'll be in Thailand during Sep, I want to take the minivan from Hua-hin to Pattaya, I don't know Panklear Plaza on South Pattaya Rd and can't seem to find any info on it online, does the minivan still drop off there? Will it be easy for me (and my suitcase) to get into the cantre of Pattaya from here? Songthaew or taxi, how much is the cost?

  9. This story sounds really dodgy to me:

A 19 year old girl, 5 months pregnant, out on her own at 1am in a strange foreign city while her boyfriend's back in the hotel with a friend, walks from Soi Bangla but can't find her way back to her hotel, walks down a small alley somewhere near the Tai Pan disco, approaches 4 ladyboys to ask directions and ends up getting mugged!

First I want to say the if this did happen then it is a terrible thing, there’s no condoning it and there is no blame to be laid on the girl, it’s also a very good thing that the girl and baby are both Ok!

Firstly I agree with many of the people here, she shouldn’t have been out alone at 1am – as someone has already mentioned, would you go out alone in a city in your own country and walk down a small alley at 1am, I certainly wouldn’t! And why would the boyfriend stay in the hotel and leave his pregnant 19 old girlfriend go out alone? Why didn't she have any money on her, do tourists usually go out in the evening without money? And what small alley did she walk down, Soi Bangla and the area near the Tai Pan nightclub are packed with people at 1am, if she wanted directions to her hotel why wouldn’t she ask one of the 1000’s “farrangs” that are around there at that time, also, it said in the article that her hotel wasn’t far from Bangla so why couldn't she find her way back (presumably being 5 months pregnant she wouldn’t have been drinking alcohol?) and the fact that neither the girl or the boyfriend would give their names to the reporter also seems strange! I’m sorry guys and gals but this story just doesn’t ring true to me, I apologize in advance if I’m proved wrong!

On a wider note; many postings here are bemoaning Patong, the crime, the Taxi mafia etc. I have never lived in Thailand but I have travelled there 35 times in the last 17 years, usually staying for a month at a time, I am a well seasoned traveller and I have visited many other countries (last count 29 countries spread all over the world) in my opinion Thailand is one of the best places to visit as a tourist, true, it’s not as good as it used to be, factors like the crime rate, rising prices, falling exchange rates and a local indifference to tourists all combine to make the tourist experience here not as good as it used to be, but I still think it’s better than a thousand other places, the land of smiles is still a special place to come to! As for Patong being worse than Pattaya, I have to disagree with that sentiment, Pattaya is still the sin central of Thailand although I have to concede that Patong is closing the gap!

  10. I suffer from occasional painful headaches for which I've been prescribed a codeine based medication (tablet), I've been holidaying in Thailand for the last ten years and I always take a couple of strips of pills with me when I go but I've never declared them to customs, I rarely use them but while I was there in October I was really suffering and I starting to run low so I went to a pharmacy to get some more and the girl there told me that codeine was a strictly controlled drug in Thailand and I would have to get a prescription if I wanted some more, so I guess I should have been declaring them to customs!

  11. Chatra court hotel, Sukhumvit soi 19, it's a bit far down the soi (on left past Honey hotel) in a small soi between Soi 19 and Soi 15, nice and quiet, about 250 meters to Asoke BTS, it's gone up to 1500 THB this year, (book through atsiam.com), big, apartment style rooms with kitchen area, bathroom with big bath, the guys there are great, good security, a lot of long term guests, only bad thing is the breakfasts which are very basic!

  12. No, jetsetbkk, her sick buffaow didn't fall on it, her mobile was in her pocket when she had a motorbike accident and when she woke up in hospital the next day her mobile was missing!

Mugopp, many thanks for the info, I bought a mobile from the tohome site yesterday and It'll be delivered to her tomorrow!

  13. Mobiles that are bought in the UK don't work with Thai text, I use a unlocked UK mobile in Thialand with a Thai sim card (True move) and everytime I receive a text in Thai my mobile locks up and the only way I can get it going again is to remove the battery! Mobiles bought in the UK will only work with european languages!

  14. I'm living in the UK and I have a Thai girlfriend livimg in Petchaboon, she has recently lost her mobile phone and I want to buy her a new phone, I'd like it to be delivered to her home, I want it to be a big surprise, the only place I can find Thai mobiles for sale online is a site called Thai soup, but they have a very limited choice and the mobiles there are a bit overpriced! Does anyone know of a Thai internet site where I can buy a mobile and have it delivered to Petchaboon? Any advice would be greatly appriciated!!

  15. Eric

I travel to Thailand a lot (three times this year and I'm going back again next month) and I've noticed the symptoms that you describe, after the first few days my fingers swell up and the skin on my hands turns red (they look like they've been in boiling water) also the hair on my fingers drops outl, I'm a 42 year old male, quite fit and healthy, the only medication that I take is for mild asthma! I've no ideas whatever what could cause it!

One other health problem I suffer from when I travel, is an intense headache at the end of the flight, when the plane is making its final decent, the pain is located behind my eyeball and is so intense that it makes my eyes water, I can't find the words to explain how bad pain is, I guess it's something to do with my sinus, I get hayfever quite badly! anybody with any ideas?
