I have ridden many crf250l bike ranging from stock, to 305cc big bore kits with cams and api injection.
The best thing you can do is, tear up your warranty. Head over to Chiang mai. See Nat at it_shop#5. He will put a cbr300 crank in. New camshafts which have had the timing changed on them. Heavy duty clutch springs and take out the anti judder system. And fit a fuel injection controller.
They can also fit a longer 6th gear.
i rented one of his bikes and rode with some of his Thai mates. The bike had more torque and lower down.
Standard crfs have no power till you rev them over 7000 rpm.

The problem lies with not driving the car very often. When autos are stored and not driven. The part of the seal which is at the top of the box dries out and goes a bit brittle. This causes the first few applications to bleed fluid past the seal, not allowing full clamping force. So the clutch slips which you feel as a shudder. When it's really bad it will flare. Meaning, the engine revs up before the clutch engages. There's not much you can do. Some use Lucas stop slip product. Works when it hasn't started slipping too bad.
Good luck. Maybe time to sell?

If it's automatic transmission. It needs to be driven at least once a month. If it's manual do the fresh fluids thing, others are saying.

Got a picture of his injuries? How long till he flies home? Can he put his arm in a sling and change flight dates, then get it fixed back in uk?

They are lower. You are not imagining it. They changed the length of the "dog bones" in the rear linkage. They can be changed to the older part number. The rental guy my friend dealt with in Chiang mai had new bikes with old length dog ones in them. The change in the newer models was made to accomodate Thai people.
