  1. Ok well goods news is i spent the day at immigration and got my 12 month extension. I hadn't realised i needed to get my address registered first so got sent to different queue to get the slip in my passport first. then it was pretty straight forward. good job i took my info on company which has house registered to me and copy as they wanted that for registration and my 12 month extension for retirement.

    thanks for info guys.

I didn't want to go back and queue again for re-entry permit as don't know when i will be leaving country if at all, however can i get re entry at airport if i go? or does it have to be immigration office?

I seems you may be in Phuket.

You can get a re-entry permit at the immigration office in Patong. Reports are that it is an easy in and out to get one.

yes I am in Phuket sorry hadnt mentioned that...

thanks that sounds like a good idea i have heard Patong doesnt get as busy.. well the imigration office at least the rest of the place is mad!

I have attached the slip they gave me a few weeks ago with updated info for marriage visa might be useful for anyone...

  3. thanks for that info but somewhere along the line the £s must have beem changed to Baht, so i presume Kasikorn. you are bound to lose money on the currency exchange, so is the best way is to send £s to my Bangkok Bank and they change to baht, so do yoy know what rate yo had for the exchange ? what i did was change from £'s to baht at the Halifax, so maybe the wrong way to go > thanks KC

you get a better rate when you send sterling to Thai banks its something to do with the telegraphic transfer someone told me...

I regularly now send funds. from my international Lloyds account free.. in sterling to Bangkok and pay no fees either way and its there within 48 hours sometimes quicker depending on what time i send it.

its then credited to your account and they use exchange rate published on there web site or in branch.I sent 40k sterling a few months ago before it dropped. in uk rate was about 49. i got around 51.5, which is a big difference for a large amount.. its 49.87500 today for TT at Bangkok bank but UK bank is only giving 49.1

  4. I got told by a lawyer here and also read on other sites 3 copys.... i got an advice slip from immigration saying 2 copy's of application form though sorry been reading so much about it just another confusing fact, but that was when i was considering marriage extension .. but easier it seems to go for retirement.

if i leave the country once i have the extension do i need to apply for a re entry permit or can i get a multiple entry?

ill upload a copy of the advice slip from immigration (based on marriage) if i can work out how to add an attachment ...

  5. I avoid anything south of Monument unless i really have to traffic is always bad going to Patong and getting back is even worse. I live over on east coast.. very peaceful here so far...

if jungceylon is quiet.. where has all the traffic gone to?

only reason I would go to Patong is if i had visitors staying and wanted to see some crazy stuff!!

im a Brit and am not broke but the exchange rate changes means we are not as wealthy as we once were.. in the days of 70+ to the £.. and i have a decent pension every month but wont be spending it in the rip of places in Patong.

My gripe in Phuket is thier inability to be able to control any traffic properly and a lot of drivers have no idea how to drive!!

who knows when the monument is closed or the lights are going to flash or be used then the police attempt to control it and it makes it worse.. having lived in London all my Life the traffic is bad there.... but a lot more vehicles. but it moves better than Phuket....

  6. Hi all after reading through lots of old posts I'm am still confused... any advise help or point me to relevant links.. i did post this on another thread sorry if it gets read again... smile.png

Having read lots of interesting and conflicting information, everyone has differing opinions and experiences hope some can help me.

Thanks in advance for any input.

I have just retired to Thailand (Phuket), I got a Non O 12 month visa from London based on marriage as it seemed simpler all they asked for was marriage certificate and the £125, I could have gone for the retirement version.

As I now understand I should have made sure I got the O/A version. Too late now!

I am now in my last 30 days of the 90 I got when I entered and not looking forward to visiting a very busy Phuket immigration office, called in briefly to ask some questions but it was chaotic…

I applied for the income letter from the British embassy which I now have so I can apply for either retirement or marriage extension any advice on which is better? It seems like it will be easier to go for the retirement extension to stay. as i was married in UK and although we have marriage certificate translated and stamped by Thai embassy im told we would have to got through another process here.

I would also add that we have a child who is registered as Thai and born in UK. was told to bring along her birth certificate which is also translated in Thai.

My main questions are what exactly will I need for retirement extension to stay?

Do I need the medical form?

Assume I don’t need Police clearance although I did have one in UK (they didn’t want to see it in UK) but it’s now more than 3 months old?

Which application do I complete 3 times? I found info on using TM22 but others say TM7? link to correct form will help.

On TM 22 it says about certificate of residence details (I thought that was issued by immigration?), I have a blue book as I have bought a house here. No yellow book yet…

so if I have my 3 forms and 3 photographs

and my embassy income confirmation letter.

    my blue Tabien Baan.

will I be able to get my 365 day stamp?

    Many thanks. eagerly await comments...

  7. I have used world first a few times for large transactions as you can get a good fixed rate.

I generally do transfers from my Lloyd's international account which doesn't charge and send in sterling to my Bangkok bank account as their rate for TT is always much better than any others.

I also have a Norwich and Peterborough account and a debit card and they don't charge any fees for worldwide transactions although the ATM withdrawal is charged by any ATM in Thailand at 160 baht

  8. I use Bangkok bank and always send funds in sterling direct from my Lloyds international account (free transfers) as the exchange rate is always better than in UK. and it arrives within 48 hours, you can see rates for TT on BKB web site.

there london office charges a fee though as i looked into that.

I found London Thai embassy very easy to get Non O visa all they wanted was the money £125! and picked up next day, didnt take much notice of my documents that I had prepared..
