  1. a lot of the indian tailors (not saying all) are here money laundering (dont think western figures)

many of them rarely have any thais "working" for them, although thais do make the suits they are usually not employed by a shop.

honestly, how many suits do you ever see these tailors selling these days?

immigration or police dont care for their antics as they know they will not get a satang from the inidian working in the shop,

hence they dont care, how many tailors have you ever seen get busted for copy suit labels or motosport jackets they blatently display in windows for years

  2. i just had a really nice one brought from UK, i not seen them in Thailand yet,

The screen is in a big 5" mirror and is touchscreen, with Android OS (so you can download games to play when driving lol)

comes with GPS and built navigation app, they will probably be in Thailand very soon, i seen similar here but none yet with android OS

but i have not looked for over a month, so you may find them now

You don't see a great deal of these Chinese ones in Thailand, because we just buy direct from China smile.png

yeh i do order stuff from china quite a bit thumbsup.gif small orders to thailand and bulk to EU

i did also see the cam you posted link to too, but spec and features are less than one i bought

and i had it brought from UK as family was flying here,

which is much more convenient than being overcharged on import tax (which to dispute means a trip to BKK)

below is the link for same cam from aliexpress

    http://www.aliexpress.com/item/New-5-0-Touch-Android-GPS-WiFi-FM-FHD-1080P-dash-camera-parking-car-dvrs-Rearview/32332207047.html

and considering its only £16 cheaper on aliexpress, i much prefer to have it delivered to friend or family (if coming here soon anyway) in UK where they can test it and easily return for exchange if needed at no extra cost, than order from china which would be sent with china post which is awful or a courier which then brings price level to UK, and then you have the customs lottery,

so many times when i had stuff sent with EMS or chinapost (not dhl or fedex, but fedex has it own issues, i only use DHL)

customs have charged me import tax on the dollar number but in baht

for example when value is clearly stated as $40.00 they have charged me tax on 4000 baht ($120)

and if you want to dispute it, you do not get your goods, and must travel to BKK to sort out a few hundred baht difference,

which obviously would cost more than what its worth.

when my friends or family come here half their luggage is minethumbsup.gif

another item i just had brought same time as cam, was my PS4 steering wheel,

while i did find one shop in BKK stocking the same one (RS300 GTE), the price here was 20,000 baht

but in UK i paid £230 (11,500 baht) (aliexpress not sell)

You've had some bad luck there - the most I've ever been charged is 7 baht for something delivered by China or HK post.

you obviously do not order that often, or order anything of actual value worth taxing.coffee1.gif

as there is no import tax on items under 1000 baht.

  3. here are a few examples of why a dash cam is needed in Thailand,

a good example for insurance purposes can be seen at 4:22

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n-42unD9ehw

there are tonnes more examples on youtube if you get GF or wife to search in Thai for you.

after watching some, i wish they made setups with side cams also for 360 degree coverage

The one at 4:22 clearly isn't Thailand, just sayin' smile.png

gold star for you, let me stick on your shirt with sellotape so you can show your mum when you get home how such a clever boy you are.

IMHO has shown he knows his stuff, you haven't so far. Looking forward to a bit more insightful and informative posts from your side.

nobody said every clip was in Thailand, i said a few examples were,

and the one at 4:22 is a good example regardless what country you are in.

why are there so many bored smartasses on TV with nothing better to do than fill the forums up with dribble.......

  4. Tobacco companies don't like competition for their 'killer' drug. "If you don't buy it from us, we'll make sure our (well paid) friends in the government make it illegal.

    What amazing freaking hypocrisy.

    What amazing stupidity

What do you think they smoke in shishas - hint starts with t

Where do you think shisha tobacco comes from ?

From tobacco companies and then flavours are added

most shisha does not come from regulated tobacco companies that pay tax in Thailand, most is being illegally imported from middle east.

i did once have to swerve quickly on highway here, as a set of step ladders come off the back of a pickup further ahead, i was very lucky as i swerved only because the pickup in front did, and step ladders missed my car by few centimeters, a car further in front was not so lucky

  7. your having a laugh courtesy car,

yes i did ask when they told me 19 days when i dropped car off,

and obviously i have been to chonburi shop, as i dropped car off therefacepalm.gif

i think you are missing what i am saying, warranty comes from Ford,

car warranty has nothing to do with insurance,

yes if i was to claim off INSURANCE again it would be fine if i took car to any their approved place before,

If i needed something done under WARRANTY,

i dont want FORD saying its a problem caused by shoddy work done elsewhere

i have been here too long to know any excuse to get out of doing something, quickly becomes the answer you get.

why i chose where to get work done is irrelevant to my post,

i am posting to let others know what to expect from FORD Chonburi

work is probably 2-3 days, 1 week at a snails pace

told 15 days prior to dropping car off

told 19 days when i dropped car off

waited 19 days, and phoned before making my way from pattaya to chonburi

and told work has not even been started yet

  8. my wife always asks me why i beep the horn so often, and my answer is simple, if you dont let someone know they are driving bad or not paying attention while driving, then they will continue to drive as they do.

i do have the horn etiquette though, short 1 or 2 beeps just to let someone know you are there or they are doing something wrong or not paying attention,

and save the long press for the complete idiots that are seconds away from causing an incident.

of course TIT you also need to understand, why people drive like they do here, and also get used to driving here,

if you have not watched the videos when getting a license here you should.

The one part of video i was shocked at, was the official way to overtake in Thailand shown on video,

get right up their ass, flash your lights, if that not work, beep your horn for 3 short beeps,

and wait for the person in front to move out of the way,

and signal (hand) for you to proceed in a safe manner.

  9. Ford is doing it at their shop, hence why it needed to go to Ford Chonuri and not Ford Pattaya,

as Chonuri is where they do body repair,

the insurance company did give us a list of few smaller places more local,

but car is still very new and still under warranty,

i did not want use another shop,

in case later i needed something done under warranty,

and Ford could give me the

eh mister u take car place fix no good warranty no cover now, answer

  11. Just a heads up for everyone to know what to expect from Ford Chonuri,

my car needed to go in to Ford Chonburi for some body work

(no crash, had dents on roof(big) and bonnet after flash storm)

once insurance etc was sorted, ford told us to bring car in on 15th May

and said it would need to be there 15 dayssad.png

15 days i thought was a long time just to sort some dents,

when i got to ford to drop car off,

i was told can collect on 3rd of June (today) which is 19 daysblink.png

Today we called ford Chonburi to see if car was ready to collect,

and was told maybe the weekend as they have not started the work yet.

so car has been sitting there for nearly 3 weeks (while i am paying to rent one)

and work has not even been started, and no phone call to say car is not ready yet,

so they would have been happy to let us waste time to come all the way from pattaya to collect,

and see car is in exact same condition as when it was dropped off 19 days ago.angry.gif

luckily i have been here long enough to know to call to check before turning up.saai.gif

  12. i am going on 15th also, but i am leaving pattaya on late 21:30 VIP Yellow bus, which i was told at bus station takes 14 hours to mukdahan,

so figured i would just make my way to hotel in savannakhet monday and then get to consulate 9am on Tuesday,

pickup and make my way back then wednesday on night bus, but to bangkok, arriving Thursday morning

anyone know bus times from mukdahan to BKK ?

i have found a few links but travel times vary on the bus company's website

should i book ticket online in advance if possible ? (found 1)

or is it easier to buy my return ticket when i arrive in mukdahan on monday morning ?

i want to get back to BKK, so i can get to british embassy for 8am

Load of options for buses back to BKK, Saphon roi-et tour vip is very good & costs 633baht, ticket office is far left of ticket booth for savannakhet bus.

No need buy return in advance, I never have, they have vip returns around 7pm 7:30pm & 8pm & get to BKK around 4am-5am, they do earlier buses too but not vip & bit slower. I buy my return once back in Mukadan & even at 4pm plenty of seats been available ... Coffee shop at bus station is a gem & has great toilet facility & wash basin .

thanks for the info thats great news,

and gives me plenty of time when arriving in BKK (maybe too much)

but thats good i will probably book last bus

  13. Hi,

I plan to go to Savannakhet to get a Non O visa. I will probably fly up on a Sunday night and cross into Lao to submit my application on Monday morning. Does anyone one know what time I will be able to collect my visa the next day (Tues)?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Also, I am thinking of going on March the 15th and like I said I am planning to fly. But if anyone else is going from Bangkok and is interested in sharing transport please let me me know as I would be interested in that as an option. I am thinking of taking the wife just in case I make a mistake with the documents and also because it would be an experience for her (not much of an interesting one I know) but she wants to see what Lao is like so she will probably tag along.

    Cheers

Have you went to Savannakhet? I am going tomorrow morning (15/3) from my place and I will reach Mukdahan by around 4-5pm..then I will cross the border to Savannakhet and search for hotel..will summit my application on Monday. If you/anyone interested, we can tag along cause I will be going there alone. Give me a call if you want. My number 0981633228 (Daniel).

i will get to mukdahan monday morning and then into savannakhet, and i will apply tuesday, i will be staying at daosavanh resort, can meet up for drink or bite to eat if you want

  14. hi,

i have searched but have not found info,

i soon plan to get my thai drivers licenses renewed in Pattaya,

    i know i need a certificate/affadavit of residence

which i will be getting from UK embassy

(i already know can get from immigration but i will get from embassy)

    my question is:

does the DL office in Pattaya require the cert of residence from embassy to be translated ?

as obviously the uk embassy will provide it in English

from what i have read i simply need to turn up at embassy with passport

(although i will also have lease which is in thai with me)

but my current thai license has address in thai on back

so i just wondered if they accept the affadavit and then you write address in thai ?

any relevant info from anyone that has done this would be greatly appreciated
