  1. Hi All,

I'm really confused about the current police clearance certificate requirements for foreign teachers in Thailand. I'm currently in Thailand, planning to start my teaching job in May, applying for a Non-B visa in Laos or Malaysia soon. I will have a police clearance certificate from my home country, and I was planning to go to the Police Clearance Service Center in Bangkok as well, because I had worked in Thailand before for a couple of years. But I've heard that instead of getting the certificate in Bangkok, I might have to go back to the town where my previous school is located and get the document from there. Do you have any information about this? Thank you!

A visa, issued by a Thai embassy or consulate, won't be transferred to the new passport. If someone is in fact still using a multi-entry visa or in the country on a permission to stay from a visa entry , then he presents both the old and new passport whenever dealing with immigrations.

May I ask what happens in case of a 30-day visa exemption stamp? My husband will pick up his new passport at his embassy in Bangkok while staying on a 30-day visa (visa exemption stamp) in Thailand. Does he need to go to Chaengwattana for this stamp to be transferred to his new passport before leaving Thailand, or is it enough if he shows his old passport at the immigration desk at the airport? It's a little bit confusing and we would like to do it the right way. Thank you.

  3. Dear All,

I just quit the school I worked at and will be leaving Thailand for 3 weeks this Sunday. I'm planning to come back after that. My school said they might not be finished with the cancellation process of my work permit tomorrow, which means I can't get my Non-B visa cancelled before going to the airport on Sunday. Does anyone know what might happen in this case? Will the immigration officer at the airport be able to cancel my visa? Do I have to pay for that? Will they let me leave the country?

Thank you for your help in advance.

  4. Dear All,

I have a Non-B visa. My husband is planning to apply for a Non-O, based on our marriage.

I've found a website that lists the necessary documents to apply for a Non-O visa. It says "a list of personal income tax of alien employee" is needed.

Any experiences with that? Is that necessary?

The site also says that our marriage certificate has to be certified by the embassy of our country. I know that our embassy won't certify anything because they don't have the access to check the validity of our official documents. We had the same issue with our driving licences. So I'm kind of stuck again.

If you have any information of the above, please be so kind as to share that with me.

    Thanks in advance

  5. Thanks a lot for your answers ubonjoe! Things got much clearer now.

Our marriage certificate is trilingual, English included.

An agency offered that they can do the Non-O application for my husband in BKK, without him leaving the country.. Do you think it's better to leave the country anyways? I've been to Laos for my Non-B but it was a really exhausting journey.

After he gets the Non-O, do you know if it's possible to get an extension of stay stamp at any local immigration office? We don't live in BKK and I do my 90 day reports here at a little town's immigration office.

    Thank you.

  6. I'm a European who works in Thailand with a Non-B visa and a work permit. I live with my husband here. We decided to get him a Non-O visa based on our marriage. I've been told it's possible even neither of us is a Thai citizen.

I assume the expiration date of his visa will be the same as mine. However, I have no idea whether he'll have to do the same reporting process as me (going to the local immigration office every 90 days to report address) or he'll have to leave the country every 90 days and come back... I couldn't find relevant information on this and I'm totally confused now.

If he needs to leave the country every 3 months, it might be better for him to stay with his ED visa and get a new one for next year.

Please help me if you have any information on this.

    Thank you very much.
