  1. Would any of you know whether it's safe to park your car for one day (overnight) at the border on the Malaysian side?

I recently moved from Thailand to Penang but my cats are still in Hat Yai. I will pick them up in a couple of days but can't drive across the border (rental) so wondering if it's safe to park in Padang Besar.

    Thank you :)

  2. I have three cats ready to move from Bkk to Malaysia - vaccinated, chipped, the works. My Thai vet has prepared all the paperwork.

I plan to take the cats to Hat Yai by night train (as cargo) and catch a van from there to Malaysia. The Malaysian paperwork has just been sorted out.

How long time does it generally take to get your pet export permit at Swampy? That's where my vet tells me I need to go, even if I don't fly out of the country. (Please let me know if that isn't the case!) I'm in Malaysia myself and hoping to come to Bkk in the morning, have the paperwork ready later the same day & catch the night train to Hat Yai. Realistic or not realistic?

    Thank you :)

  3. Would anyone here know of a decent English-speaking vet in Hat Yai? I will be moving to Malaysia with my cats, crossing the land border and I need some leads for how to deal with quarantine etc. on the Malaysian side - maybe a vet in Hat Yai would know? I know the Malaysian requirements but to fulfill them I need a Malaysian agent, and I haven't found any online in Padang Besar (where the land border quarantine station is), only in KL and Penang (they don't deal with land border crossings).

    Thank you :)

Are you sure you want to put 3 cats on a Thai train for such a long voyage ?

Thai trains are slow , loud . Don't know whether they accept cats in aircon second ( or first)  class and 3rd class is aweful even for humans .

Do you have documents for the cats to cross the border. Once over the border do you have transport ? Are you going alone ... 3 cats in crates and maybe some lugage ...

All's sorted out paperwork & transportation wise.

Just need to know if I can bring my cats or not. We'd be OK in a 1st class cabin of our own (Bkk - Hat Yai).

  5. Hi,

I have three cats and need to travel from Bangkok to Padang Besar (border crossing to Malaysia). I'd prefer to travel by train. Do they accept cats (in crates)?

I'd also be OK going by train from Bkk to Hat Yai, if that's easier (1st class available and whatnot). I can always get a private van from Hat Yai to Malaysia.

    Thank you :)

  6. Can anyone recommend a reliable and reasonably priced van service from Hat Yai to Penang - for myself and my three cats?

I know the cats will be taken to quarantine at Padang Besar and spend 7 days there, I know the regulations - the cats are ready and the paperwork is being prepared.

Now all I need is a private van from Hat Yai to Penang. Pick up me & my cats, leave the cats in Padang Besar and drive me to Penang.

    Thanks :)

  7. I have three cats that I'll need to take to Malaysia (Penang) with me 3 months from now. I have a local Thai vet who's helping me, but due to language issues I'd like to double check here that I haven't misunderstood anything. I will fly directly from Suvarnabhumi to Penang. All three cats are:

    - 12+ months old

    - Fully vaccinated according to Thai & Malaysian requirements

    - Chipped & have chip certificates

    - Sterilised

(Rabies test isn't required by Malaysia.)

My vet tells me this is how it'll work (unless I misunderstood something):

    1. 7 days before departure, he'll give me a "vet certificate" (?) & check the cats (treat for fleas, worms etc., although they're treated every 3 months anyway)

    2. 7 days before departure, I'll need to apply for an import permit online from Malaysian authorities

    3. 1 day before departure, I'll need to visit the Pet Travel Office (?) at Suvarnabhumi, show them the paperwork my vet will provide and get my export certificate (?)

    4. Check in, fly to Penang, cats will be quarantined for 7 days, done.

    Bonus question:

    - Thai Smile seems to currently be the only airline with direct flights between Suvarnabhumi and Penang. Is anyone familiar with their pet policies & track record?

    Thank you :)

Can I ask what documents you used and what was the process, sounds very quick

    I had with me:

    - My valid UK car driving licence

    - A recently acquired & valid residence certificate from Jomtien Immigration

    - A recently acquired & valid health certificate from a clinic in Pattaya (any clinic will do)

    - 2 passport-size photographs (turns out I didn't need them)

Apparently the procedure is a lot faster when you already possess a valid licence in English for the type of vehicle you apply for (car or bike or both) as you won't need to take any tests. I only had my vision checked (extremely basic), didn't have to watch any videos or take any driving tests at all.

is value on the road  behind homepro coming out the back entrance

If we're talking about Rayong, yes - thereabouts.

I actually live in Klaeng without a car so going to Rayong itself is always a bit of a hassle. Thought I'd try and get these sorted out now I'll be in Bkk, they've been lying around for a while now...

  10. I have a broken Zenfone 2 and a Zenpad 8 something. I live in Rayong, but leaving tomorrow for a trip of a couple of weeks.

I know there's an Asus repair shop (Value) in Rayong, but they haven't been open when I've been in town, and they won't be open when I head to Swampy tomorrow morning.

But I have a couple of hours in Bkk so I was thinking... Maybe there's an Asus repair shop in Bkk that would be able to repair these for me and send them to Rayong? I'll be flying back home via U-Tapao, not Bkk.

Would anyone know of such a place? It'd only make sense to bring them along if I know they'll get repaired, otherwise best leave them at home and take to Value in Rayong some other time.

    Thanks you :-)

  11. Thanks a lot!

One more question. Some say they show up with their paperwork and go home a couple of hours later with their brand new licence, others say they get told to come back a couple of weeks later. Different depending on which licence you're getting?

I'll be getting my 1st 2-year Thai driving licence with a UK (car) driving licence, and also hoping to get a bike driving licence as well. I have all the paperwork for both.

Can I just show up and get it all done in one day?

  12. If you want to apply for a new Thai driving licence (bike and car) in Pattaya, do you need to make an appointment or can you simply show up?

Anything else you need to remember? I've got my medical certificate, residence certificate, UK driving licence & photos.

    Thank you :)

  13. What does immigration in Jomtien require to give you a residence certificate if you stay at a hotel? Is a hotel receipt for a night or two enough?

I need the certificate to apply for a Thai driving licence.

    Thanks :)

  14. I want to get a Thai driving licence for car and bike in Pattaya. I currently hold a UK car driving licence.

Would a hotel receipt for one night be enough to get a residence certificate from Jomtien immigration? I do have a rental contract, but it's for a property in Rayong and I would prefer to do my driving licence in Pattaya, not Rayong, mainly because of the recent changes at Rayong immigration and the potential trouble there.

Yes  on the visa and yes on the residence certificate    if you want car and motorbike licence and apply at the same time the DLT will except one original and one copy of residence certificate.

if you have a licence from your home country ( in English) then you can skip the  computer theory and practical driving parts of the test..just have to do the reaction and vision tests.

I do have a full UK driving licence.

Do you know if Immi in Jomtien will issue me a residence certificate and if yes, what do they need for that?

  16. Can I get a Thai driving licence on a (single entry) tourist visa in Pattaya?

I know it can be done in Chiang Mai (a friend did it on a TR visa couple of weeks ago), but this seems to vary across the country.

If yes, can I also get a residence certificate in Pattaya or will I need to ask my embassy for one?

    Thanks :)

  17. We opted for SFX Cinema. It was OK. I would have preferred significantly lower volume levels, but TiT I guess. Not as bad as Major Cineplex in Rayong. Didn't notice any disturbing behaviour from fellow attendees (screen no. 4 at noon).
