As the owner of an internet cafe for 4 years and having run a translation and message forwarding service there's not much I haven't seen or heard.
There are many Thai women desperate for a good man and a better life. That doesn't mean they are all good or bad.
That also doesn't mean they want to leave Thailand.
There are also many educated computer literate women who work the internet very well, looking for men who are desperate for a woman and a relationship.
I've seen plenty of guys taken for a little or a lot in the nicest of ways.
Spend a little time in the chat room, keep an open mind and you may start to see it.
They'll all want to meet you at the airport and be your guide when in Thailand.
They'll also try to stop you from having the opportunity to meet anyone else.
If they do have a good job, the chances are they'll have little time to spend with you.
That's not to say that I don't think you can't find a good woman.
It's pretty much the same everywhere in the world. Remember to use your head not your heart, big head that is. And, if it seems to good to be true, it probably is.
Have fun in Thailand and remember it's the Land where you have to Smile.

If anyone has any jobs openings for Thais can learn to speak/read/write English and improve skills that may keep them gamefully employed, why not add them here?
I have a cafe & guesthouse on Thonglor where amongst other international and Thai/fusion food, we bake Pies and make Aussie Burgers. We also just opened a franchise on Sukhumvit Soi 1 and will be opening more in Thailand and Asia.
We are alwasy looking for new staff, so if you have a wife or girlfriend who's looking for work or she has a sister who wants to improve her English and cooking skills please send an email to [email protected] or call 02 392 6518.

Big John's - at both Thonglor (Sukhumvit 55) and Sukhumvit Soi 1 - have clean, comfortable beds with linen, comforters and pillows from 150baht per night and Private rooms with airconditioning from 350 baht per night.
Does anyone else know of any other affordable accomodation in the area, especially places with great value for money western style meals?

I must admit I'm a bit confused about the bickering between and set up of two expat clubs. I thought the idea was for expats to get together and help each other. If these sorts of divisions happen now and can't be overcome, what will happen in the future? Will someone else want to start another Bangkok expats club? How many will there be? Makes me think twice about joining. I've always been the sort of person able to stand on my own, ready and willing to help others. Never felt the need to join a club.

If you don't have the skills to make yourself easily employable or the bank roll to do your own thing, Thailand can be cruel and quality of life poor. Just ask a few English teachers.

I think Bernard has done a great job in all his years at the Bangkok Post. The new social order, of the last two years, has made it hard for him to write about the bars. Especially with the police having used his writings in the past to shut down bars. It's little wonder many bar owners have little to to tell him these days. The internet and email are replacing newspapers.
Thailand is also changing, in many ways for the better. I'll be sad to see him go.
Maybe he'll finally get around to my place for the free feed I've been offering him for years.
