1. Hi,
I'm brand new to Thailand and in the process of getting settled. I hope some kind people will be able to answer some of these questions.
If I am not pregnant do I need a seperate GP (general practitioner) and gynaecologist or does the GP do pap smears/breast checks etc?
Do I need a seperate paediatrician for my kids and a adult GP for me or do we all just sign up for one doctor?
When I go to the pharmacy they only seemed to offer me birth control pills called Yazz (this is the combined pill).  Do they sell mini pill varieties there or was I just unlucky?
Can I get Votrum (European blood pressure meds) here?
Should I get my kids innoculated against rabies?

Thank you in advance.

I think if you go to a Thai public hospital they will advise you. There is also a specific woman's forum on Thai Visa. Maybe better off joining there.

2. First, make sure you understand the difference between the visa (and its expiry date) and your permission to stay (and the admitted until date).

Using a re-entry permit to prevent the cancellation of your permission to stay should work fine. Just be sure you are not assuming it changes the original admitted until date.

Returning through an airport, requesting a visa exempt entry with your history is asking for trouble. You may get lucky, but you certainly risk a denied entry. If you want to get a visa exempt entry, return overland through a friendly land border. Two options:
• Fly to Vientiane and cross the Friendship Bridge to Nong Khai.
• Overland via Cambodia to Koh Kong, entering Thailand at Hat Lek, Trad province.
Thanks Tim. I do understand about the visa expiry date. Thanks for the info.

3. Hi. This is a SETV question so hope ok here. I have had 3 METV's in the last 2 years so this time coming from Australia to Thailand I came on a SETV. My plan was to marry my long term Thai girlfriend and I bought air tickets for us to go to Ho Chi Minh and get a Multi Entry based on marriage. I have been trying to organize the marriage certificate for weeks but has turned into a lengthy process. The tickets to Vietnam are for next week and am thinking of going there anyway for a holiday. My SETV does not expire till the1st of September so do you think an immigration officer would look kindly on me that I had the visa and left early and now want to come back on a visa free entry? I also vaguely remember Ubon Joe telling me years ago I could get a 'reentry permit before I left but not sure. Thanks.

4. Yes sure, so what?
But time to grow up Falang they mean very little here.
You do not see Falang because they are too cheap to go. Duh..
Maybe a beer on Soi Buakhow or Soi 7/8.
Yes, it is a long weekend and it is packed so you get the point?
Many Thais and Chinese and others want to come here.
The place is not dying, just the opposite.
Sorry to disappoint....

Sorry can you read? I was mainly talking about the 100's of Chinese buses you seem to imagine. I may need to grow up but are you becoming senile ?

5. Yes but Central is mostly internal tourism. I couldn't see many farung in your photo. It is a long weekend and the Thais come for their holiday. It is normal for Thais to come from Bangkok on the weekend. I think they have a special train for them leaving early mornings. I can only go by my friend and my experience. She is a rather serious Thai lesbian living in the country outside Pattaya. I was sad because her job is gone. I remember last year Beach Rd was a traffic jam all the way due to buses. I only saw three this morning.

Just cruised on my motorbike and saw probably 100 buses.
Traffic and people everywhere 2nd road going north backed up to Soi 13/2. It was so bad on Nua traffic cops at the intersections.
Central mall crowded food court full.
T21 packed.
The dieing city is certainly alive today.

6. There are quite literally 100s of Chinese tour buses at any time around Pattaya.
I only go to Pattaya once a week but to me there are a lot less than last year. There used to be a traffic jam from Dusit Thani to Central last year but not now. I go to Lukdod shop off North Rd and there are often Indian buses.

7. FarangFB FYI…. On the 2nd floor of the MFA Consular Affairs building there is a small translation shop directly in front of you at the top of the escalator.  The people who do the translations for the shop are MFA Legalisation Department employees who do the translations in their ‘free time’.

MFA-Translation-Shop.jpg.c672e7599dd8faa70f5a9d0804c54cec.jpg

Because they do translations which specifically need legalising, they have a library of document templates, so the documents that you mention will present them with no problems and they should be able to do them fairly quickly.

How long will it take?  That will depend upon their existing workload and the availability of a translator.

Their prices are similar to what you will be charge elsewhere, about 300 to 400THB per sheet of A4 depending upon complexity of the document.

They can arrange (at an extra cost) to have the documents legalised.  I’m not sure if they bypass the normal same day procedure, but I suspect that as they are MFA employees they are able to facilitate a quick certification if requested.   The bonus with their service is that in the unlikely event that there is a problem during the legalisation process, they will get it sorted immediately.

You can collect your documents from the shop once they have been legalised, or they can arrange to have them sent to you by EMS.

Hope this helps.

Have read 2500 b for full service including translation and MFA stamp. They sell you the full service because they will fix any mistakes with the department. Leave there one day and come back the next to collect.

8. I went to my local library (Las Vegas) and got a membership number.  Then I went to the library website and signed up to borrow Kindle books online through the Overdrive website.  Of course they don't have every book but they will accept suggestions and many times they've acquired a book that I requested.  I think you need an Amazon account also.  I already had an Amazon account but it should be no problem to create one.

Edited: FREE!

For the popular books you may have to put yourself on a waitlist.  Overall the process is quite simple and effective.

As stated by others you can find a Kindle reader program for every popular computer or device.
My spellcheck changed the program name to borrowing but it is meant to be Borrowbox. No Amazon account needed in Aus. Is great.

9. Idiots. He is an actor, he does what the script indicates. If they need to boo someone, try the writers next time.
I think they are complaining about the plot not his character but your comment reminded me of a very sweet old friend of mine who used to play a really nasty lady in a popular Australian soap opera Bellbird. She said people used to come up to her in the supermarket saying she was the nastiest person ever.

10. You can download a pdf reader on any  tablet. You can buy an android  tablet cheap at Lazada or big c. I am from Australia and I have membership cards for several libraries and I downloaded a program called borrowing. I can go to any of the libraries and borrow books for free. I'm sure is the same in most countries. Maybe you can get someone in your home country to set up an online account for you and then can read for free.
