  1. I work FIFO and have been coming in on a 3 weeks in 1 month out for the last 2 years.

Even though I don't ever exceed 28 days I decided to go down the METV route to, if anything, try to show that I'm doing the right thing and not using the VE route and run the risk of the same thing happening to me. At the end of this swing at work I will be hanging around in Perth to apply for a new METV. This will be #4 so hopefully it will be granted. I always have copies of my next 2 return flights and accommodation along with no less than 30k baht on me at all times. The IO actually told me last time that I don't need a visa but you can never garuntee getting a polite and friendly IO like that so for $550 a year I'm happy to pay it. Just my 2 bobs worth.

Laem Chabang is fantastic but make sure you know the price you are going to pay before booking.  6,000 baht a round is what you may end up paying outside of special days, pricey to some but worth it to play on a course of this standard.  Same can be said for the Siam Country Club courses: Old Course, Plantation and Waterside which does do cheaper deals and worth it.

Bang Phra is great and a good price, as is Kao Kheaw and Burapha (opposite Laem Chabang) up that direction.  Phoenix a good option closer to Pattaya.  Green Valley, Saint Andrews and Silky Oaks is also a fantastic set-up.

Fact is, you are spoilt for choice and wherever you go it will probably be excellent.

Laem Chabang is 2437 baht for 18 holes on Tuesdays which is great value for a course of this calibre. Normally weekdays is around 4900 bht. Playing tomorrow morning in fact.

Got it. I remember seeing one of those now.

I was thinking of the UV ones because they require no refills, and the idea of the light + carbon dioxide + fan seems to suggest they will work better than most.

    thanks

Be careful with the small ones that you put the little metal plate in. They do work but you'll wake up with a splitting headache if you have it on while you're sleeping. You'll be breathing in the stuff they emit and they dehydrate you big time aswell. I won't use them anymore for that reason.

Many of us living in Thailand have little interest in donating to Gofund me pages when yet another tourist comes to grief in a manner that voids insurance.

However, this guy seems to be a member of the Fremantle Butterfly people whom I'm sure will forgive the way he injured himself and donate in droves. They will have many fundraising events such as folk music concerts, vegan food stalls, street theatre, juggling and stilt walking.

They will look after their own, albeit 2 or 3 dollars at a time.

    I agree.

2k for a chartered van would be very nice... no more detours to pick up and drop off the others. May be 3.5 hr is all it takes compare to 6 hours max.

The van at Sukhumvit is only 250B...

There are two or three travel agents on the N side of Pattaya Klang between Second Road and Beach Road, where you can book a shared van that would pick you up and go directly to the border without detours...may be 600B.

    Yes it was very nice.

4 hours total to my place in Naklua and that including stopping for a smoke and food.

  6. I read a website called " Offshore Energy Today"

It updates daily and there is a lot of info regarding what companies are doing ok and what companies have won contracts.

I'm not looking for work as I'm one of the lucky ones to be with the same firm coming up 16 years in November but for anyone who is looking, it's a good place to start.

  7. I'm thinking along the same lines as Farang99. I had planned to move here 6 years ago but for some absolutely stupid reason I let my little head rule my big head and shacked up with another Western leech who just recently had me in the family court. Everything was planned for the move then i made that mistake. I have the best of both worlds right now working offshore and spending my time off in Pattaya. I have rented a nice place in Naklua and just when i'm starting to get a tired of it, it's time to go to work and dry the liver out. After 3 weeks at work I can't wait to get back. I have a great girl in Pattaya who looks after me and never asks for much and my mates that live in Thailand love it just as much as I do. Still have my property in Perth which I will maybe think about selling in 5 years when my work finishes out here. To be honest, I can't see myself ever living back in Oz full time but will go back periodically to see my kids and grandkids.

Wish I had of moved to Thailand years ago.
