NO brains used if this was a continuing problem then a purchase of a trolly jack would have solved their immediate access dilemma ,

    Agreed.

You would think after 10 years of this problem they could have found some sort of solution. A trolly jack, road cones, some sort of barrier.

  2. I think this is the sort of thing that needs to start happening more in Thai society. I think Thais need to start publicly shaming each other over the way they drive.

Thais not pulling over for an ambulance, driving the wrong way down the road and pulling out in front of cars without looking all these actions are very dangerous and cost people their lives on a daily basis, but Thais continue to do this because they feel that they are acceptable driving practices and don't realize they are putting lives in danger before it's too late.

I feel that publicly shaming these idiots is the only way they will respond. Thais really don't like loosing face (even though they are so good at it) and I feel if there were shaming campaigns done about people driving like idiots, the standard of driving would improve.

Not like the Thais are scared of a little fine at a check point and these are all rules that rarely get enforced, as Thai police wait at a check points and rarely enforce moving traffic infractions.

The police have proved that enforcement will not improve the standard of driving, I think it's the public's turn.

PS. I have been here for a long time and realize I'm dreaming if I think anything can change. But, if everyone started publicly shaming idiot drivers, maybe the next generation of drivers MIGHT be SLIGHTLY respectful and aware of their actions.

Wow, I am impressed - such diligence by law enforcement is not something I am use to.  Were they stopping other cars in in a similar manner - or were they focused just on your car like they were thinking you were someone of interest (a matter of wrong place, wrong time and you fit the bill while they were looking for someone else)?

It was an organized check point, there were a few other Westerners there getting seached as well.

The taxi I was in was not searched at all, but the nice taxi driver made sure to keep the meter running for all that time.

I don't think they were looking for anyone in particular, but what do I know, I'm just an idiot abroad

they target foreigners, skin color doesn't matter.  i've been through the police checkpoints and seen the checkpoints from elevated walkways (in bangkok).  they only stop foreigners in taxis.  never a non-taxi vehicle.  i don't know how this person was caught, maybe not at a checkpoint, but alot of non-black people are targeted regularly.

Agreed, I was pulled from a taxi on Asoke about a week ago, they thoroughly searched me and all my bags. Actually took every scrap of paper out of my wallet.

I am in my late 40's, white male and I was dressed in a suit at the time.

Yes, he had about 3 joints on him, naive only 21. Was on Koh Tao of all places. The police played all sort of games with him and his father. I had to give them the bad news about the police and paying was the only way out. The problem is people seem to think they have rights here and there is a legal process to follow

The thing is, that there IS a legal process and people do have rights.

Typically with a marijuana bust the officers involved will tell the people that they can goto jail for 10 years and pay hundreds of thousands of baht in order to scare the person into paying a bribe, usually 50k - 200k depending on how many officers are involved.

What most people don't know that the reality of a tourist getting busted with a bit of cannabis really is a slap on the wrist. Most cases involve paying a fine of 1500-10,000 baht and they send the tourists on their way, often times not even blacklisting them.

The only real problem is that they can't leave the country until their court date and that can take up to 90 days I believe.

I have been here for over 20 years and I have had many people I know get busted with cannabis and it is the exact same process every time.

This kid panicked and called his friends, his friends panicked and called the media.

  6. A lot of the big malls have a store called;

    71 export

    Export store

    Casual XL

All the same owners I think, as all the stores are almost identical in design and layout.

They have name brand cargo shorts at great prices 300-500 THB.

They are factory rejects but they are much better quality then what I have found at Tesco lotus or the knock off at MBK.

  7.  I'm going back to extend my 30 day extension for an additional 60 days. I was only on a tourist visa when I did the initial extension.

And the extension was grant based on the fact that I have children here.

Will I be expected to show 400k in the bank?

If so, would a bank statement from the USA help?

I don't have the 400k at the moment but my bank records from the US show 5k plus a month and I withdraw most of that money here.

Just trying to get an update, on arrival at swampy, I know that they are x raying more suitcases but do you have to go through a body scan. I am thinking if I put my battery in my jeans pocket and there is a body scan, it will stand out.If no scan (as the battery is the biggest part) the rest of my vape kit can be separated about my checked bag.It is an e leaf i stick battery with a nautilus mini tank, so apart from the battery everything else is very small and can be easily spread about in my checked bag.

    Any opinions

I would not risk it in the airport.

They are readily available on sukhumvit road. I would not risk "importing" one.

But this is just my opinion as they are illegal.

I have spoken with some Thai friends that have been arrested with them as well and they said they had paid anywhere from 5,000 to 100,000 Baht fine for using the device.

  9. Overall a very painless process. There were only three other falangs in line.

    Documents provided:

    Rental agreement

Copies of passport and Visa pages

Copy of the house registration were my son is registered (not the same as our actual residence)

    Copy of divorce papers

Copy of paper saying I have sole custody of my children

    Copy of birth certificate

They first made me register my address.

    Documents required:

    Rental agreement

Signed copy of home owners ID

Copy of my passport and Visa pages

To be honest they hardly even looked at the documents. They told me that they could only give me 30 days but I can come back and extend it for an additional 60 days at the end of the month.

I also witnessed a man walk in to inquire about the ten year retirement visa and they told him it was not yet available.

O yeah and I saw the immigration officer vaping IN THE BUILDING!!!! with the window open.

You can apply for a 60 day extension of stay. (It is not a Visa)

You can even apply for 12 months if you are the legal Father and qualify financially.

Apply at the office that covers the area in which you live.

Do I need financial proof for the 60 day extension?

  11. So I have recently been told that I can get a 60 day visa without leaving the country based on the fact that I am a single father of 2 children with Thai citizenship.

My friend did this at chaeng wattana immigration. My children are on the house registration here in Pratum Thani.

Can I do this at the chaeng wattana immigration or do I have to go to Pratum Thani immigration?

    Or is it even possible?

    Any advice is appreciated.
