18 years ago work permit in Chonburi less than 20 minutes; and I did this 5 times for the next 10 years.
So nothing new when you BOI and making the proper paperwork in advance.

International Living Magazine is a subscriber magazine with a monthly fee mainly targets the US market, so the stories have to be nice and colorful.
Like most of thing in live it is always in the eye of the beholder...
There assumptions are based on lifestyle rather than economic: average monthly spending of 1700 to 2500 USD, rents less than 950 USD... I guess you get the point.
If it would come to the most easy places to retire many countries on their list will lose out; there are far better countries available to fit into this category. Take this from someone has lived and worked in 13 different countries out of Europe and visit more than 80 countries in the same time.
However let Thailand enjoy the nomination, as I do love the country in which I am living now for 23 years.

Shame on Thailand...if this young lady would not use the social media for her cry of help, she would be already deported and we do not no which faith would have awaited here in Saudi Arabia. So much about he "Land of Smiles", which only bent to the pressure of the worlds news media.
Kapunmakrap and have a wonderful day in LOS (Visa Free)

I do love this NO Littering signs in Thailand...when there is No Garbage bin/disposal around at all. Especially on this lovely messy local markets. But to educate Thai's on this...? Good luck...

Samui was a Mafia Island 25 years ago and still is; will never change.
Although I was living mostly in Pattaya in all this years; with all the bad things going on in this town, I hardly encounter any danger; but I am a BIG peace loving fellow, and only occasionally getting Pi...d.
Anyway this kind of kindness for tourist you can find all around the world (and I traveled 80 countries so far) my advise is to enjoy your live and special your holidays.

10000 thb for a toilet seat? Even the whole things costing less...
I am worked in hotels all my life; the manager should be arrested and no one else (maybe include the scamming police).
This is Thailand hospitality? As I always pointed out in my 25 years in the country is LOB not LOS

Hope for your guys that CM will improve. If I am in the country to visit my family I never had a problem with my Immigration in Phetchabun; very friendly and helpful people. Got my extension if needed without problems, as time of my stays vary due my job assignments.
After 25 years in LOS I have to admit is not always easy, but in the end manageable...and nobody is forcing us to stay.

Shall we arrest all the Thais showing the old Germans NAZI swastika and flags...Any Thai left than...

Benefits? What BENEFITS?
In 25 years I have not got any benefits from the Thai Government. For visas you have to apply and work permits been easier in the past (the legal ones) then now. I been working for more then 15 years in Thailand legally in the hospitality industries and things have not become easier now. The reason I stopped working here since 2013 and staying now most of the time abroad, hence the Accidental Tourist.

The problem, like always when its comes to introduce civilized laws into Thailand, lays in the assumption that Thailand is already a developed country...unfortunately is still 3 grade.
When I arrived 25 years ago I thought that this could be achieved in 20 years...wishful thinking (or thinking not at all)

No shit; and this after 20 years living in this resort. In the 80"s they cold the Jumbos flying from LA out to Thailand the "Boom - Boom planes". So what I been doing there all the times...
-
Grab, Uber you will find all over the world; there is hardly a issue with this in Europe; which of course are mostly civilized countries... which makes the difference

Dear, if you are having passport problems; best would be to contact your Honorary Consul in Lampang for issuing either a temporary passport for 1 months or 1 year; or an Emergency Travel Document ETD (if stolen or lost documents).
Is not expensive and legal. Advise to contact your Consul first to make an appointment.
Flight out from Chiang Mai by International flight on transit in the respective country before continue home to Belgium. Good luck
