Didn't mind Private Dancer
It has dated now, but there is still plenty of lessons for newcomers to take out of it- 1

I moved to Thailand at age 23 and stopped pretending to work at 40. Never made much money working but I saved compulsively and made some good investments. Now at 64 I am more comfortable than I have ever been, with enough to weather currency and stock market fluctuations.
Staying single until my mid forties and not having kids has probably contributed somewhat to my good fortune.????
Off topic and unrelated to you, but that reminded me of the half dozen people over the years I've met in Thailand who retired early, after investing in Apple or Microsoft stock when they were priced low
How they all managed to pick these 2 stocks at their lowest point with no formal training and end up in Thailand always puzzled me.I found out later a couple of them inherited money and came from a wealthy family ????????

I downloaded this one from Amazon for about $5 and I wasn't expecting too much, just some light morning coffee reading.
I was totally wrong.
Ended up getting hooked in and binge reading in a few days, something i haven't done for years.
Not sure why the author hasn't put a sequel or two up with the main character he created, i'd have bought them already.
Normally i don't bother to log in these days, but it deserved a reply.
Any other recommendations in this type of genre? Set in Thailand please
I'm back in Bangkok next month and could use a couple of entertaining reads to fill in some time

Great Novel Set In Thailand
in ASEAN NOW Community Pub

I read 2 of his though yet to read his latest one (2015 according to wiki).
Copied this from wiki
A series of crime novels mainly set in Bangkok, they consist of six books: Bangkok 8, Bangkok Tattoo, Bangkok Haunts, The Godfather of Kathmandu, Vulture Peak, and The Bangkok Asset. They centre on the philosophical Thai Buddhist detective, Sonchai Jitpleecheep, and his meditative internal dialogues. Sonchai is a "leuk krung" or half-caste. He is the son of a former "rented-wife" (a type of prostitute) and a "farang." His father was a U.S. military officer whom he never knew. Sonchai has spent much of his childhood in Europe and the U.S.. A born "outsider", he is also seemingly unbribeable, which increases his alienation from his colleagues.
