Welcome to a land of inconsitency, ignorance, idiocy, hypocricy, and (too often) an abject 'couldn't care-less - my country, my rules' attitude. One needs a thick skin, together with lots of patience and forgiveness to live here these days. It's a shame that people with nothing other than good intentions, fair and transparent dealings in all things, honesty, and a will to contribute to the place one chooses to settle, encounter so many day-to-day challenges. Strange that in a country that has thrived on foreign income through tourism and other investment, the apparent attitude towards non-locals is not always welcoming, accepting and friendly. The 'land of smiles' as it has always been called has, somehow, seeminlgly lost the depth of meaning and feeling behind the smile. Nowhere in the world is perfect of course. However, some of the elementary attitudinal changes that could be made and retained would make such a big and positive difference to life here.
