You'll need a more specific link than that. All MyGov mentions is a $550/week supplement, kicking in late April, for those in Australia who have lost their job as a result of the shutdown
Sorry not here to nor do I have the time to do your homework. Go to the Government sites like Centrelink or press statements. Yes of course you have to be in Australia to get it, and NO , your statement again about late April is again wrong, its starts the day you register and yes you have to have lost your job or for foreigners not have means of support and can not leave . As there are no flights thats a give me.

If you want to see government stupidity in action, check the stories from Australia about the hundreds of people queuing at Centrelink offices to register for unemployment benefits - something that (unbelievably) can't be done online unless you're in the minority and are already receiving benefits of one kind or another
Your statements are totally incorrect sorry. Over the weekend the Centrelink system was upgraded to handle 55,000 from 5,000 actoins at a time and is being further upgraded. People can apply online and receive benefits for yesterday nd the Government has actively been promoting that and advising applicants NOT to queue but to do it that way. Additionally, an extra 5,000 call centre staff are being addd. Research first place.

The Australian Government is providing welfare payments of at least $1,100 a fortnight to people caught up in the country and overstaying by the virus plus medical, rent and other benefits which makes it a lot more. Quite a contrast to the action in Phuket... perhaps Thai nationals in OZ should be banned from getting it all!

They (Hotels, taxis, places to eat et al)can "rip" some of the people of for some of the time but not all of the people all of the time. Seems like self inflicted wounds.

Hey Please take it easy with the Consul people in Melbourne. I've found them to be lovely gentle and kind people and really very helpful when I had a slight problem; they went the extra mile. I had a METV from there and to b frank after all the reports here have decided as a senior traveller the one thing I don't want in live are hassles so let Thailand go and over in Vietnam where the welcome is wonderful. I had no problems, except a big one with a TM30, but once or twice it took a while to get through. You may need to do some more research on an OZ marriage visa, think $7k+ and up to 2 years wait.

I think you will and that she can be your "common law partner" i.e. that you have been living as a married couple for at least a year. I doubt that a formal marriage is required. You will have to provide strong proof of the much as cohabitation evidence, joint home arrangements, bills, utilities, etc., lovely family shots won't do it. But, yes to lodge an application for her to come to Australia as your partner incurs a lodgement fee of about AUD7k plus there is a huge waiting list of applications and I believe that may be out to 2 years before it gets processed and yes it is non refundable. Yes, she will have to be out of the country and stay out until the application is processed. She can most likely get a tourist visa out to 1 year at a cost but at NO time can she work whether paid or unpaid they don't differentiate, or undertake any like activity such as charity work or study. Be very very careful in this area many say that "oh but I didn't get paid" and that they get is visa refused . You will have to provide proof and a stat dec that you can support her easily with a tourist visa. I know a very good agent in OZ . Re Centrelink he Dole is about AUD 250 a week plus rent support maybe cAUD80 but think you won't have any chance for a DSP, the rules there now are extremely tight. if age qualifies maybe the Age Pension of AUD867 p fortnight plus rent assistance and a health care card. Doubt you will be able to include her and receive extra as she will be seen to be a "burden" on the state and this may go against your long term application and she not a citizen or have residential status. As said above you will have to prove you can support her if you are on Centrelink payments, no chance of a tourist visa and probably partners visa. I'd be very wary of dong that if you want her in OZ.Hope this assists.

Hi all and thank you for taking the time here.
I have an METV, re entered on 24/08 and got 60 days, which gave me to 22/10 as it expires on 14/09. But I have book travel to Vietnam on 24/09. Murphy's Law! Something has come up and I wish to re enter Thailand before the expiry on 22/10. Can I do this or do the days after the METV expiry (14/09) mean that such an exit voids the the expiry date of 22/10 and no re entry. Thank you for your time and assistance.

smart choice to allow Australians and NZ'ers to be next in line. They are relatively small in visitor numbers as well as trouble free and law abiding. No need to over scutinize them ????
Your totally wrong get your facts right, Those from oZ represent 30% of inwards tourists

An outstanding effort and all congratulations and strength to your arm for the positive and correct manner in which you are handling this matter. Instead of the full frontal approach that a few here seem to adopt, it gets no where in just about any country especially here. You have obviously put a lot of pro bono time effort, thought, expertise and skill into all of this in a sensible proper way and approach. The entire expat community should be and I am sure the sensible, intelligent thinking ones amongst us, who want to dote right things intros country are very indebted to you for all the efforts and the correct way you are handling the matter. Personally, I had a nightmare experience with a Landlord and a TM30 when she basically refused to do it then obfuscated in providing the information needed and refused to acknowledge any comings and goings I had. What, with all payments such as rent had to be made in cash she even insisted on utilities in her name, you can guess why she didn't want a lodgement. The word taxation comes to mind. So obviously she didn't want the rental to me registered anywhere with the authorities. It took a huge amount of time and angst to get to a situation where I could spend a couple of days travelling from centre BKK, negotiating at CW and coping a not small fine for all my efforts in trying to respect Thai Laws as we all should do and most want to. So as said "all strength to your arm" and thank you from me for all the efforts you are putting in and the way you are handling the matter and I'm sure the vast majority of the Expat community feel the same. We are all indeed very indebted to you.

Its really just one of a whole series of actions in Phuket that are sending it down market in tourist eyes and considered to be tacky trashy dirty and a rip off and yet nothing seems to happen

They go back home and talk to friends who talk to other who decide not to come to Phuket because of it. The driver will probably get a 1k fine so about 1.2 ahead of the proper fare but Phuket will loose tourists from it, as I now from friends who don't go there. wake up Phuket officials or your tourism will go down a lot further than 30% in 6 months and clean the drab place up.

I know of a lot of Australians and others from the West who have been to Phuket and fed up with having to question the pricing of most and mostly taxis and Tuk Tuks. Its put them off; plus Phuket they consider now being quitedown market so they are not going back. "Don't like it" Seems this is a common thread amongst like tourist visiting Phuket; no wonder numbers down 30% and maybe just the start. The go back home and they talk!!

I agree with a fellow OZ poster here. I lot a very lot of antipodeans and UK people are not coming back; been there done that attitude. Plus many many comments about the attitude to foreign tourists and the constant battle about having to be careful not to get ripped off. Plus, the bargain to middle type accommodation is old, worn out and lacking from any real maintenance for a very very long time and most of it looks very tired, are the general comments. The attitude of staff and management similar: go to a reception and there too busy looking into their phones to pay any attention, is regular comment. pain tout something is not working properly and they comment that the attitude seems to be " your problem". Places like Phuket (" dirty, crowded, hard to get around, costly, drab, tacky," et al) they particularly single out as not wishing to go back . Why"? "Just don't like the place" the usual comment. So perhaps the tourist industry needs a decent investigation.

Think you need to do your sums again 1 AUD= 21 Baht i.e AUD6+126 Baht still a big price for a pad Thai especially in a food market

Had the same experience took 2 months to get the info then it was incomplete. Seems same reason as the owner wanted the rent and all payment in cash Wonder why??? TAX or lack of reporting the income that would be subject to tax.

Thank you very much to all of you for your kind responses to this naive somewhat traveller to Vietnam, although being a "senior" traveller very many years ago the OZ Government was close to offering me an all expenses, free travel, free accomodation, clothing provided and free meals, job there ( with AK47 thrown in as well)!! Hmm. A birthday lottery I was happy to loose.
To those who mentioned Hanoi can I please impose and ask if you might be so kind as to suggest places to live there because I'm very seriously considering a month or two in both now after your comments so it will really be apprecaited.

Agree with the last poster here. Its simply showing respect for heading to a Government office and meeting with Officials. Whats the problem in dressing appropriately for the occasion and not as if you've just come off the beach. If you do expect the same in treatment, you show respect you get respect, you don't show respect get what you deserve. You wouldn't do it in your home country.
-
Quite honestly you probably deserves to get a "serve" at both ends as one poster said he got from Malay Immigration doing the same.
Whats wrong with doing the right thing and spending at least a night there to not only do, but be seen to do, the right thing from both countries point of view. Your just making it tougher for the rest of us who do the right thing.
I have to leave regularly and I spent about 3 days exploring the new spots and there is no shortage of them in this part of the world.
No matter how important your business and if you want to compare notes on that happy to.
