TO ALL WHO HAVE RESPONDED TO MY QUESTIONS. THANK YOU FOR YOUR RESPONSES. VERY, VERY HELPFUL. LAST QUESTION: IS TRAVEL INSURANCE REQUIREMENT THE SAME AS "HEALTH INSURANCE"??? I DID NOT KNOW THERE WAS A INSURANCE REQUIREMENT TO GET A VISA. I INTEND TO APPLY FOR A METV.
-
I am like a lot of others. So, so, so confused. I am United States citizen, married to a Thai National, (we have been married 55 years now) who holds dual US/THAI citizenship. I am having trouble finding the required insurance for me to go to Thailand. I am now 77 years old. We intend to try and go back to Thailand in November of 2022. Do I need Travel Insurance AND Health Insurance? I normally have gone on a METV because I only stay 6 months there each year, as we have our own home in Yasothon. Prior to COVID, it was a piece of cake going over to Laos and back to get the extensions. So, we are quite poor and I am confused as to what VISA to try for now, and what the costs and requirements are. ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEAS ON WHERE I GO TO GET THE NECESSARY INFORMATION???? Thank you.

does anyone know how you go about getting a "negative" test 72 hours before departure? I don't get it! Especially here in the U.S. we just don't go in and get a test, if you know what I mean.

I see no win win situation here. As a expat who owns a home in Thailand, married to a Thai for 53 plus years, we lost over $5000 this year just getting out of Thailand and now with their stipulations to come back, we just refuse to put up with that kind of requirements. I being a retired military have health insurance for LIFE. I being retired have Medicare insurance for the rest of my life. Why would I pay the extravagant health insurance premiums the Thai's want when I already have more insurance than I will ever need. Why would we go to the expense of paying for quarantine when we have our own home in Thailand and would be more than happy to quarantine in our own home. This is all terrible and does nothing but put the Thai people in jeopardy of their livelihood and life. So sad.

Unfortunately, I totally agree. But more importantly, why does Thailand seem to want to decimate its own people by doing what they are doing. They (the government) are causing Thai people to starve to death and enter in to poverty because of the absence of tourists who undoubtedly make up the majority of income for this country. Very sad.

Only in Thailand could this happen. No cease and desist orders necessary or blocking him and having the posts removed. Not like tbe rest of the world.
So much for democracy!!

At last, a very concise and cogent critique of exactly how little difference present plans will make.
One thing for sure, it will make a huge difference to the ability of the country to get the economy back. At least 90%+ of all folks like me who want to go back to their home in Thailand, will not, as long as these ridiculous requirements are in place. I feel sorry for the middle and low income people of Thailand, they are dying a sudden death.

This makes no sense to me. I am an American. I am retired military. I have Medicare and Tri Care for Life. Why would I want to buy some outrageous policy when and if I am only going to be there for six months. At any rate, can anyone here tell me how to get ahold of these "insurance companies" so I can get a quote? I still don't get how they think someone is going to vacation in Thailand under these Financially stupid requirements to include 2 weeks quarantine at our own expense!!!!! who do they think they are kidding/???????

If there are going to be 16 Insurance Companies, how can we get the names of them so we can compare costs?. Can you post the names of the Insurance Companies, or how to get ahold of them?

This is all very sad and ridiculous. People die every day. Over 6,000 so far on Thai roadways. No provisions for that. Thousands die of other reasons. No provisions for that. But hey, lets go stupid when it comes to a Virus. It is not just Thailand. The world has gone completely beserk over this. I don't want to die, but I would like to live "a little". The Virus is to be taken serious, of course, but so is the carnage on the highways, the motor bikes, etc. Does anyone have a clue??????

this whole thing is ridiculous. I think the Thai government has the right idea, just the wrong way. Not a all-in-one fit. To wit: I am an American. I am and have been married to the same Thai lady for 54 years now. We do have a home built and paid for in Yasothon. We have been here, this last trip, since November 6th, 2019 (2561), which is long before the COVID-19. OK? So now we got caught here. We were supposed to leave on April 30th. No flights! We finally have a Asiana flight leaving Bangkok on 24 June. OK? So we go to bus station to buy bus ticket to take us to Mo Chit Bus Terminal in Bangkok. OK? Nope. Wife can go, but because I am a foreigner I can not go on their DAMN bus. What? So, this is the ridiculous part. There are no provisions for a certain situation. I am beyond mad at this. I love Thailand, I love the people, I love my Thai Family, but this is totally stupid, beyond the point of comprehension.

I normally do not get involved with the Thai government doing things. For the most part, I sort of agree with what they are doing. However, from an outside point of view, this is ridiculous. All it tells me is that they do not want foreigners in their land. It is getting to be more and more this way. I live in Thailand 6 months each year, but I am beginning to feel like it may not be worth it. It is just sad to me.

You have got to be kidding me. Does this guy look at the current situation? I have been keeping track, well as much as you can, and if you believe the Government, than things are progressing nicely. What does the Emergency Decree do for the "people" other than cause more suicides, loss of income, loss of businesses, etc. This is lunacy. Are there no one in Government that can help? Of course the King could probably help somewhat, if he was in country.

Reminds me of some of the powers that be in the United States. Trust me, the Thai officials have nothing on the officials (I use the term loosely) in the US. Besides, I miss the bars. Lets open up and have a ball.

All I can say is, you betcha. I have been driving in Thailand since 1967. I have had motorcycles challenge me, big trucks and small cars. Ya gots ta stay on your toes. Knock on wood, I have yet to have even a small accident, whilst driving the car or motor bike. Probably because I pay attention to EVERYTHING around me. Happy motoring everyone.

Sorry, I put wrong month. It should say it arrived here today, 20 MAY 2020.

I have posted before about Thailand not sending OUT any mail out of the Kingdom, except by boat. I still don't have a good answer why? They (Post Office) just say "no airplanes". However, my daughter mailed a package of OTC meds to me on 30 April 2020. Today is the 20th of April 2020. It arrived at my house here in Na Di Noi (Yasothon) today. Mail is coming into the Kingdom. The kicker is: There has to be an airplane coming here. So, my package (which cost $65.00) to mail sat in Taiwan until the 18th. It then came into Bangkok, then thru Customs and then here to Yasothon. Fortunately my daughter had US Post Office Tracking so I was able to see when/where it was at. The Virus is a sad thing.

Regardless of what they end up doing, if they do not restructure airline ticket costs more in line with the rest of the airlines, they might as well just sell their airplanes. They have been so out of touch with prices against what other airlines charge, why would anyone want to fly Thai Airways. That is my opinion.

Thailand is already well-known for its hospitality, warmth, and friendliness
That is true to a certain extent, however in this day and age Thailand is also known for corruption, scams, pollution, xenophobia, dual pricing, high prices for sub - standard services, shocking health and safety standards, bizarre government rules that change at any time etc.
His aims are good, but something like this is just not going to happen.
In this trying time, I would say any action is better than no action, regardless of the motive or outcome. Normal (what is that?) people need to get back to work, not only in Thailand, but around the world. This whole hoax is a shame and China, Bill Gates, and George Soros need to be brought to task for their involvement in this horrific pandemic.

This still does not tell us why we can not mail letters, etc., out of Thailand. When is Mail service going to resume. This is terrible. We are not getting our mail from the states either, and I have meds floating around out there that I need. What the hell is up with the Thail Postal System??????

How sad. As they said, lucky the patient did not receive any further injuries. Evidently some one was watching out for him.
-
Come on folks, can you blame him. Just take a look with open eyes and see what folks did. As humans we are always guilty of this. Carrying things to far and then ultimately we suffer from it. Freedom to do is one thing, being ignorant is another.

Tourists are how the virus spreads. Good luck with that.
I guess that is why the Thai Boxing Stadiums spread all the Virus. Were all the people there tourists?????

Sheryl, thank you for the information. Of course we are hoping that all restrictions will be dropped before we leave for Thailand in November. Again Thank you
