  1. Of course you can't buy airline tickets on line with the Web Shopping Card as you have to produce it at the airport! Also some hotel require you to produce the CC you paid with :-(

I am considering buying airline tickets with my Web shopping card.

I will show it at the airport I don't see your point

Many airlines advise that the actual card used to make the booking must be shown at check in and obviously you cannot do this with a virtual card, also a number of airlines specifically exclude virtual cards like the web shopping card.

Whilst I have not been asked to produce a card every time I have checked in, I have never been asked by Air Asia for instance, I have been asked more often than not.

An alternative is a Kasikorn Debit Card, they can have your name embossed and can be set up for online purchases.

Kasikorn web shopping cards are not virtual cards, there are VISA cards that you can use on the net.

They have a "standard" credit card number on them, the VISA logo, an expiration date and even the 3 digits at the back.

Your name is not written on them though.

But I don't think it is a problem.

I think airline companies (like Thai airways) want you to show the card that was used for the transaction.

I am going to ask the Thai airways office here in Pattaya to have a confirmation. I will let you guys know.

  2. Coincidence, I did the same thing yesterday ...

I went to the Kasikorn Bank at the Big C Extra here in Pattaya Khlang to apply for a WEB shopping card (I already had their VISA debit card).

Since I already had the debit card I was automatically eligible for the shopping card without any paperwork.

One of the staff helped me on the ATM outside (but it is so easy I could have done it alone on any of their ATM without even going to the Bank).

I received an sms a few minutes later stating that my shopping card was active.

If I understood correctly this shopping card has no daily limit, the only limit is the amount available on my account.

I can now use it directly on the internet but for more security I signed up a new Paypal account with my new Kasikorn shopping card .

I am a tourist, I come many times to Thailand but never for more than three weeks so I don't have a visa nor an address (I stay in hotels)

I totally agrree with you, everything is so easy with Kasikorn.

  3. Hi,

I will be cycling in Thailand for a bit less than 3 weeks from 12/12/2008 to 02/01/2009.

I am looking for a scenic cycling itinerary but I've ruled out commercial cycling tours, . (I'd love to join a group of cyclists but this is going to be difficult because I am slow on my folding bike pulling a trailer).

    I thouht of this : http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=2427477

but then I don't know if I should go to the Andaman sea or stay by the gulf or Thailand.

What do you think of it ? Will it be easy to find places to sleep ?

Would it be better to take a bus from time to time to avoid some streches of roads ?

    Thanks for your help.

  4. My plane from Chiang Mai will land to morrow (09/08/08) at 08:15 PM so it is too late for Bell Busses.

I also read from the answers of another post that I could try to go to the bus terminal but I am afraid that if my plane lands at 08:15 PM I won't have enough time to collect my luggage and take the free shuttle to the bus terminal and be there before 08:30 PM...

    My question :

I remember that I took an ordinary bus to Pattaya at the airport (ground level, revolving door 9 ?) right by the Bell company.

What time do these ordinary busses leave the airport (AND NOT THE BUS TERMINAL) at night ?

    Thanks for your help.

  6. Hi,

I am looking for a thai teacher for a couple of cheap thai lessons.

The city is not too important although I would have prefered Pattaya , Chiang Mai or any tourist place (except BKK) .

I found this link http://www.thailanguagechiangmai.com/ and the price is attractive.

I don't know if she is really a good teacher or if she took pictures of the students and made up the references....

Another possibility is Pro language in Pattaya (see the other thread on thaivisa)

Any experience with Lah ot Pro Language ?

  7. If you are adventurous, why not consider installing Linux yourself. I just installed Fedora Core 5 onto my Compaq Presario x1030 the other day. Wasn't much to it. Quite simple.

There is plenty of forums on the web, including this one on TV, concerning Linux should you ever have a question (or a problem).

I don't want to pay for windoze OS if I am not going to use it.

If I buy a good laptop it will probably come with XP PRO installed. I am not sure how much a preinstalled OEM version of XP PRO costs but out of the shelf XP PRO it is 200 dollars.

  8. Hi,

(I am new to the thai language , so far I only know the 44 consonants)

In the first vocabulary lesson of "Thai for beginners" ( Benjawan Becker) I see that the word ก็ ("also") is long and falling.

That little mark above the letter should indicate a short sound and I thought that without a tone mark the rule for middle consonants was

    - sonorant final or long vowel--> mid tone

    - short vowel or stop final --> low tone

How can it be a falling sound ?

Is my rule incorrect or is it one exception to the rule ?

    Thanks for reading my post,

    Eric
