Before I talk about my wife, let me talk about her friends.
Long and Fran got married several years after my wife and I. During the first year of their marriage she had come to stay with us(3 months) because she wanted to go back home and didnt love him.
She had lived in US like my wife, same college so going home for what? On and off thru the years she goes thru a "I want to go back to Thailand and dont love you phase" and "I hate your family, you are spoiled phase". Her mother dide when she was little Im told. He has an excellent job traveling around the world and even schedules his time in Thailand so she and kid can meet there for his seminars and spend time with family. She can go home anytime...
He says it comes around holidays and her period.
My other friend Methi here in US had a younger friend who always liked him when he was at temple in Thailand. During his cancer diagnosis and treatments they decided she will come to US and get married.. Say what?? I told my wife. There is a large Thai/Lao community here in Tennessee.
While he was recovering from treatments, guess what Gookgik came and my wife, friend Pranee and myself went to Clerk to get license and a local marriage office to get them married. She stayed for several weeks and had him driving her around America and even help here look for possible eye Dr school in Chicago. Also she wanted money and was hitting him.
The friend of my wife was to the point, you get out of my house... She apologized, went back to Thailand and then started demanding he send her so much money to support her although he had no job and doing cancer treatments. Her brother had already been living here going to local college getting a "degree" staying at temple... Her parents defended him but somehow she at moment is on FB with another man, but married.
From the beginning of my marriage my wife has always had an attitude. Several times Ive hear, "if it weren't for kids Id be gone long time ago". Even found diary, "Andy not the one I wan to marry" after a 1st year married argument. Seems like when she and a friend above got citizenship they develop superpowers and disrespect.... She has Master's, good job. We are debt free, but if she's not at work she's meditating or going to temple or helping friend at restaraunt. The kids and I feel like roommates. I tell her that's why Craigslist has hookers, lol to make her realize, Hey, what about husband and kids... I tell her too alot of what her friend at top problem is Thai lakorn(soap opera) Some woman is always screaming, talking loud, drama)
I kinda understand where your coming from, but it might be "Thai woman"

I found an old ESL evaluation for my wife when she went to Murray State Kentucky. It stated she had difficulty, and still does, pronouncing certain letters. L, R, W and H are killers and then she tells me to say Ngongoo... Pud Thai nit noi

But you have completed more than some will ever know. Sometimes it opens doors and sometimes it closes them. Testing is an option for these Amer Thai children.

There is an option. ????
Me and my local monk in US are helping a man he connected with in Bangkok in Feb. I sent two DNA kits, Ancestry and 23 and me. I tried to get at least one on sale. The monk brought the kits back on his return trip and I have sent both in for tests. It took two weeks to process, but normally takes 4-6 weeks. You can download the RAW data DNA file and also upload it to a few other sites and get DNA matches free there. Some people or relatives have tested on one and not the other. So spreading out the possibilities of finding someone related to him/her and connecting or researching from there. At moment this is my first attempt helping someone since Im having to find and learn a new family unknown to me. But Im finding good info.
I have been looking thru the matches for the 2nd week. On one kit he has a match with one 1st cousin and two with 2-3rd cousin and many distant cousins. The third match contains the last name of the father, as given to me, Jackson. Using their info, screen name, FB, Google Im finding a little more about the Jackson name being accurate. I had reached out to the first high match and even found phone number thru her online resume. She wasnt sure what I was talking about. Some people only do DNA test for background and not set up or know their family history. But it is a very good start considering his mother was from Thailand and father the US.
According to Thong, his father served in Nakorn Ratchasima 1971-1972. He only knows father as "Col or Commander Jackson 1st Airborn Division, Nakorn Ratchasima". He said he was from New York and possibly had an aunt who "owned large towel factory" there. The father brought his younger sister back to the US. He has not heard nor seen them since they left in the 70's. Ive gotten him one step closer. :-)
Prior to the monk going to BKK me and him had talked about me doing his DNA and seeing who else in the world he was related too. He went on his trip a week later and messaged me the situation with the friend. Coincidence? Karma? DNA has found a new relative for my father. It works, just have to do a little research or matchmaking.
And someone will say "how much does it cost? Its too expensive"
The companies always have Sales at various times and price fluctuates. But here's an idea.
Ancestry typically sells for $99, then has been offered for $79, $69 and presently $59. plus shipping in US
23 and me typically sells for $99, shipping in US. Sometimes kit can be bought and processed for $90
Other companies offer similar prices but you can download the Ancestry and 23me data and upload to them, I have.
I had recently mailed 5 kits to Thailand and shipping from US was $35, but I have sent some via monk and friend when they traveled there and back. Thru USPS I had to fill out Customs form and my in law in BKK had to pay Duty. So if anything I may send thru friend.
For someone in Thailand with no internet, computer or knowledge of US family trees, family names there are sometimes people who volunteer called Search Angels... The monk and I were talking about testing several of the Thai and Lao families at local Temple and add to the DNA database. The man Im helping from Thailand has some Asian family in the US and one lives 60 miles south from me.
Any questions ask. I tried to be brief, lol

Here is a link to a website that specializes in Amer-Thai children.
Vietnam Era US Serviceman and Amer Thai child
in Visas and migration to other countries

Im presently helping a Thai man search for his US Serviceman father and a younger sister. He only knew last name and possible rank of father and location. Col or Commander Jackson, 1st Airborne Division, Nakorn Ratchasima Thailand. Served 1971-72. Thong was born there in 1973, sister is younger, I dont have her name.
My question is, what would a US serviceman need to get VISA for his Amer Thai child(daughter) to bring her back to the US. I know Thailand has birth certificate and house card and National ID card. Would any immigration documents exist from the mid to late 1970's to help identify his father last name Jackson. I don't know what the US military has but she would have to have paperwork to come thru Immigration/Customs in the US. Thong thought the father was from NY. His DNA results are strongly matching Alabama, some New York and California. I have contacted a high match but not everyone knows their family. If I can help him the local monk and I are going to maybe do another one.
There is a website dedicated to trying to match together people from both sides, but they aren't using DNA and I haven't asked the paperwork question yet. It's a former US Serviceman living in Thailand running it.
I researched a little more about the history of Korat Air Base and it's Camp Friendship US Army usage too. I didn't know much of Thailand's Vietnam War involvement until I took on this family find.
