  1. A squaddie friend of mine who visited me on Koh Phangan in August sent me this.

"Just a quick one mate, I brought some sleeping tablets in Thailand In august, called Xanax. Any way got drug tested when I got back and tested positive for them, problem is its a class c prescription drug here. Obviously I don't have a prescription.

Can you think of a way I can get hold of any proof that you can buy em over the counter in Thailand mate ???

I'm pucka in the s**t and any help you can think of would be a massive help"

Unfortunately I am in the UK at the moment and I don't think a google search of hearsay and opinions will satisfy the British Army.

So, is there any proof that I can send him.

    Thanks in Advance

  2. In the south of thailand, you can get astro satelite, from malaysia. About 35000 baht for equipment and 1 years subscription. If you only want the sports package, then it is only 25000 baht. Pre match and commentary and halftime all in english.

UBC are not the only game in town, not my town anyway!

  3. Hi, will be arriving in koh phangan this sunday, just wondering if there is anywhere in Haad rin, Baan Khai or thongsala that might be showing the 6 nations rugby? Know it should be the last thing on our minds getting to koh phangan but being passionate taffs, watching the rugby is a bit of a tradition! think the wales match kicks off about 3pm GMT so would be around 10pm in Thailand?

Or the new Irish Pub in Thong Sala will definitely have the Ireland France game on. It has just opened opposite the entrance to the government pier, and is called the Harp Bar. The owner is a big Rugby fan.

  4. Does Thai visa always help law breakers get around the law by posting warnings.

I have seen many comments and even threads taken off this forum in the past because it might hurt someones feelings etc.

This thread blatantly is a warning to anybody carrying drugs or anything else illegal on the island to steer clear of a certain area.

Or maybe I misunderstood, and it is to warn of possible traffic problems.

Can I start a thread called "How to roll a joint and get away with it".

or "Kill someone here (there are no police around at the moment)"

This is some of the most backwards logic I've ever read on the internet. Just wow.

Try opening your mind a little.

    :o Agreed..

So next time there is a road block, they are not actually looking for drugs, maybe they have been tipped off about a possible bomb that is on the way to the airport or the Full moon Party.

You put a warning about the searches on thai visa.

Bombers take it on a different route.

    Bang.

    Bomb goes off.

Thread would soon disappear from thai visa.

You should pin the thread so that any potential dope smoker, heroin dealer laptop thief or terrorist can find out in a click if his route is clear.

The OP did say that "I was stopped at an 12-15 strong person police and army (dressed in camoflauge fatigues)" a little bit more extreme than the usual.

    Open your mind!

  6. I don't see where the OP has said she is asking for money, just that he wonders if she is working in a legitimate massage place or not. So, anyone in the know want to set the OP straight or shall we all just give him relationship advice instead :o

Since SBK has given us the option, I vote for relationship advice.

  7. Aon & Angune - Thai seafood restaurant.

Had the most delicious seafood yesterday at this restaurant on the road to Chaloklum, just past the police station on the left.

The owner buys her fish directly from local fisherman, super-fresh and guaranteed no Formalin (as the sign now says at the Thongsala main market).

Very friendly and enthusiastic service, and one of the few places where they fry with fresh oil. Super tasty food - try the fish cakes!

i can't think why anybody would vote for me'n'u. the food is average at best, the prices sky high and the service slow

Average food? Wow... you have got to be kidding, Steve. Please point to me where in KPG one can find real Western cuisine of this caliber - I'd be very happy to try it out.

Prices at M'e'nu are definitely above KPG average, but well below the norm for this kind of fine food elsewhere in the West.

Slow service? I guess M'e'nu is not the place to eat and run, but the only time we had to wait between courses was at the very busy New Year's Eve dinner.

    jose '-)

The food at Johns, near the Masons arms is probably better quality, certainly bigger, and 55 baht for a small singha.

90baht for a singha at Menu is outrageous.

He probably claims it is a vintage bottle he is selling.

No comparison in terms of value for money, or word of mouth recommendation's. Johns wins hands down

(The ancient Aussie Guy behind the bar needs a kick up the behind though)

  8. Well, according to the announcer, the drivers were from around the country, Chiang Mai, Chonburi etc. In fact, as far as I know, there were no local people in the race this year.

    Ok ! but I didn't see it in a TV or in a newspaper's national, and...... :o

Exactly my point No body knew about it!

Surely a tourism authority of koh Phangan should have been advertising this event.

I hear they managed to go to Germany to a tourism fair a few weeks ago???? ( hearsay only)

  9. Apparently a national event as was last year. Also had a tri-athalon a few weeks ago.

Why are these things only advertised in thai?

Tourism authority of Koh Phangan organizes all these events, but only advertises in thai. Last year, 4X4 was 2 days after the full moon, but the only people that knew about it were the ones leaving on the songserm boat the same day.

    Why?

Shouldn't the tourism authority of koh phangan be advertising in english, understood by the tourists that come to Koh Phangan. I can't find a website for these people.

    Are they accountable?

Where does their budget come from?

  10. its a real legal mafia there...for a tiny amount of ganga (under 10 grams) its 90,000 THB payoff for a Farang

they will take payments if you can understand that one!!!

I had a friend busted there and he told me the whole sick corrupt story

they shake you down (under your balls too) and can find it if its there too

legally in Thailand for that amount for a normal Thai its a 2500 THB fine

its a sick money racket all the way against the Farang

that guy must be sooo rich now he can retire.... whats new in Thailand?

No body asked your mate to come to thailand and break the law. Your mate must be sooo stupid to travel with dope on him!!!!

I agree not a good police force, but if your mate didn't want to pay the bribe, then he could have gone through the legal process.

They offered him an easy way out, and he took it.

  11. Chequered Flag now has free wifi, and if your laptop is not wireless compatable then the bar man will supply you with a lan cable so you can plug straight into the router.

Happy hour from 1 til 6pm,

so while you wait for the boat,

you can have a cheap beer and

    check your emails for Free

inbetween munching on English pub food and

playing a shot on the free pool table.

Only 50 Yards from Seatran Pier

Get your ticket first, cos they will even give you a lift to the end of the pier when it's time for your boat.

What better way to spend time usually wasted while waiting for a boat!

  12. Can anyone recommend a good place to wtch the world cup. USA is particular.
