  1. easy,

check out any travel agencies they all offer bus tickets

u have the choice to go to Poi pet ( I drove that route in August) , 4 1/2 hours to border and than another 2 to Siem Rep or 6 to Phnom Penh via Battambang)

or via Trat to Koh Kong and than either head south to Shinoukville (pattaya to shv apx 6 1/2 hours)

or go same way an make the rutn to Phnom Penh about same time

IF ur in Pattaya there is NOTHING to shop for in Cambodia u cant get in Pattaya excpet cheap tourist stuff

Sorry, but i have the experience that the Russian market in Phnom Penh is much cheaper than anything here in Pattaya. 100% cotton shorts only US$ 5 (where can you find these in Pattaya for Bath 150???)

Also the socalled 100% cotton polo shirts here are made in China, and never 100% cotton, even if they mention that on the label. In Cambodia they are really 100% cotton, because they are produced there.

Where can you have a draft beer here for US$ 0,80??? In Seam Reap even US$ 0,50. Also the people are much, much more friendlier in Cambodia than here in the so-called LOS

  2. what about coming back from Cambodia (phnom penh) to Pattaya? which company would be good to do this?

There are buses, more or less the same as the ones that goes from Pattaya to Phnom Pheng. On the boulevard, that is the road alongside the river you find travel agents that have information about those. I also recommend you to stay in that area. Many hotels and guesthouses and the beer (draft ankor) is good and cheap.

For shopping take a motorcycle taxi to the Russian market, that is the place, not the central market, much more expensive. You need USdollars in Cambodia. ATM's gives you these, so no local money. Remember you have to bargain everywhere!!!

    Have a nice trip

  3. I bought three polo shirts at the sport outlet store neat BigC on Sukhumvit. On the corner of the square wherealso the Home Works store is. The salesgirl quaranteed me that they where made from 100% cotton, as the label says. I weared one of them one hour and It seemend NOT to be. I was sweating a lot wearing that shirt. The brand name of the shirts is Emilio Valentino. They are according to the label made in China. I have given them away, waste of money!!!

I cannot find ral cotton polo's here. Only the outlet store next to Lotus have "for sale" Beverly Hills polo club shirts at Bath 690 (US$ 23), but they donot produce the ones with the pocket anymor.

  7. We have a holidayhouse in a village about 15 km from Bueng Sam Pang. The name of the place is Nong Deng. There is a market, there are shops and even a restaurant run by two guys who used to stay in Pattaya, so they speak english. I like to stay there for maximum 14 days to get away from the huzzle in Pattaya, where we live. I bring lots of food with me and wine. Beer is available in the shops. I have GMM satelite TV, which is good enough, aircon and a european kitchen. The place is very quiet, the people are all friendly and it is all amazing cheap. I really enjoy staying there, but after 2 weeks I miss the Pattaya scene, the bars, restaurants and shops where everything is availabe. In Bueng Sam Pang there has just been opened a Lotus 24 hours shop behind the market. I have alos been in Wichianburi, there are more foreigners living and it is nice meeting them on Thursdaymorning. These guys are all very friendly and helpfull, what a difference with all these tatoo lovers here in Pattaya.

  8. I had never heard of Gmmz, but when I bought a new TV here at BigC Pattaya they gave me for free a Gmmz decoder. No idea how to use it. I have sophon here, but in a holidayhouse in Phetchabun a satelite on Thaicom 5, so I tried it on that satelite. Just plugged the cable in the box and the TV and WOW it worked. My wife had to phone Gmmz for the registration and we got all the pay channels for free for one month. I watched football, National Geographic and really enjoyed very much the programms and the quality. I understand that after these 30 days you have to pay 400 Bath a month. Peanuts if you compare that with the 2000 Bath True asks. I am very pleased that there is now an alternative besides True, better, cheaper, friendlier and much more commercial. I wish Gmmz all the best and hope they will extend their programs.

  9. :)

This morning a guy on a motorbike stopped at the concrete pillar where all electric, TV cable, and phone wires are connected. He was wearing a shirt with TT&T marks on it. So we thought he was checking something. We didnot first take notice, but when later trying Internet we noticed that it didnot work. Checking the wires on the pillar we noticed that the internet/telephone connecting box was missing. We called TOT (our telephone supplier) and they didnot know anything about it. Than we called TT&T and explained the situation. They also had no glue. But they called us back later and informed us, that this guy was a thief and they where looking for him and it was his "business" stealing these boxes. So when anyone of you see this guy stop him and call the police.

  10. Hi, as quite a regular tourist visitors to Thailand we are getting quite concerned about all these various scams that we keep reading about going on at the airport, just because we have never seen anything going on we are not daft enough to think it doesent happen so what are the best tips to avoid any of them ?

    Hazel and Howard

I have warned my family and all my friends who come here to visit me to avoid shopping at the "duty free" shops at the Bangkok airport. Some tourists from a.o. the UK an Denmark have had serious problems there. They have been accused of shoplifting and had to pay large amounts of money to avoid being put in prison. Also take care that your arriving luggage is locked and sealed. There are very handy luggage security bands for sale at luggage shops and at many airports. These can be put around your suitcases/bags and locked. This will avoid airport staff to open easily your luggage. Understand that thiefs are always in a hurry and they will look for easy to open bags. For transportation go outsite the airport building there where the taximeters are waiting. Pay an extra 50 Bath and you arrive safe in your hotel or apartment. The staff of the taxi counter will give you a receipt and inform you what to pay. Really great service.

  11. I donot understand why there are people who still fly with KLM. This is the wort airline of the world. Bad service, small chairs, not friendly staff, expensive etc. Of course, they have decided now to change their award programm. Forget this airline. There are much better ones like EVA, Air Berlin and China. These companies LIKE customers. KLM doesnot.

I recieved a dissapointing news letter from them this week. They have suddenly decided to change the award miles policy.

it was the norm that if you didn't use the airline for 36 momths your award miles where cancelled for the first of the three years.

They have now advised a 20 month expiry date.

Perssonally I had aquired 120.000 awaed miles which I was hoping to utilise next March, that would represent a free ticket to the Uk. My miles have now all been cancelled so that represents a a few hundred quid write off.

There is a way to redeem them by buying ticket before the end of September and they will reinstate my award miles.

So it means buying my already earned award miles.

So it looks like they have lost another long serving customer.

So a bit more useless information for your memory banks.

    Cheers

  12. Does anyone know where there's a cake decorating supplies retailer - BKK or elsewhere in the country? I would like to take up my old hobby again but need to find sugarpaste/fondant (used for covering cakes and making decorations).

On Sukhumvit Soi 33/1 at the end there is a shop where you find everything you need. It is next to the Bakery school.

  13. I have very weak ankles and when I go to Thailand I love getting foot massages nearly every day. A couple of weeks after my last trip to Thailand, I starting having odd pains in my ankle. It's as though it was sprained, but without a cause. Usually, I'd just be sitting at my desk and I'll move my ankle in just the right way and it hurts. It will continue to hurt for anywhere between a ten minutes to about 30 hours. The pain typically ends quite suddenly. I don't think foot massages are the cause of my problems, but I do wonder if getting foot massages so often could exacerbate any old injuries I have in my ankles.

Has anyone had problems with their feet after getting foot massages? Are there any known dangers to getting a foot massage?

  14. This is again one of these Thai Airlines tourist traps. Donot believe them guys, their fair prices will not change and their "service" will remain on the same "level" as before. I just checked their website for a trip to Frankfurt and the price is still far too high in comparison with all other airlines.

Air Berlin, EVA, China, BA, Finnair and Austrian have much better rates and services.

  15. I was really contemplating moving to Thailand for my retirement in 18 months time, but now I'm wondering if its going to be worth it :o

I have to have 800.000 bht in a bank which dont pay any interest

I can only buy a condo, asuming its a majority of Thais who own it

I will face a 2 teir system of pricing (Thai and Farang)

I have to contend with a Bht that is all over the place with exchange rates

I have to report every 90 days to immigration to prove I'm still capable of staying

I dont mind getting all the paperwork (like a retirement visa)

But I think I'm going to end up like a second class citizen

All I wanted to do is live out my time in relative comfort, with my ENGLISH wife, (not a Thai wife or any other import, unless you include Liverpool in that :D )

As much as I like and enjoy the Thai people, I dont like being laughed and spoken about in a language I know very little of (as I have read in the forums here

Are Farangs actually wanted here in Thailand ? (either as tourists or retirees ?)

Can anyone just give me a 'heads up' on this ?

Not a slagging off or a slating, just helpfull advice, please

    IS IT worth it ?
