  1. I ordered a New Vigo Prerunner in Gray from the Kalasin Dealer in Jan... Salesman orginally said 3 to 5 days, then two weeks, ended up taking just over 3 weeks to come from the factory...

    Hi Pianoman,

This is what I am afraid of being told 3-5 days and then taking weeks in which time I will be well back to work in Phuket. I guess I have to try to convince him over the phone that I am serious and will pay up when i get there. Hopefully it will go smoothly.

I wonder if it would be worthwhile sending him some more money, but I am bit scared of doing that.

    Fingers crossed

    Cheers

  2. Hi Everyone, I will go and buy a toyota vigo G black color in Kalasin. I have done a bit of homework by sending all the paperwork ahead of me and the dealer is going around getting the garuntees that he needs from the wifes relatives etc. He says the car is there already but now he says that he has to order it from bangkok. I have really limited time thats why I sent everything ahead so all I want to do is sign on the dotted line, pay the deposit and go!

My question is if I get there and he needs to order it, how long will it take? I can see that they may say it will only take a week and then end up taking two by which time I need to be already back to work in Phuket. I have already paid a small deposit to secure the car but now he says that he has not ordered it yet.

Anything I need to specially check on the car when I get it, will the pull a fast one? Trying to change stuff on the car? Sorry for all these questions but I dont have the time or the inclination to be stuffed around.

    Thank you very much

  3. There was a gym in Kamala, on the left hand side after the first small petrol station before you get into the main part of Kamala. Was ok, equipment was old but in ok condition, had some cadio machines, swiss balls, pretty basic. There is a small gym opposite the new tesco lotus in cheong talay. I never used it but saw a few western people going in there from time to time.

A decent lap pool is the hardest to find, maybe there are some hotel gyms that offer outside memebrships in laguna?

  4. huh-oh!!!

Ok here is the scenario, we have some guests that are doing this casino thing with an outside party organizer however I have to provide food, drink and service. Can I also land in hot water with the main organizer? I am guessing yes, right?

    I am getting nervous :o

  5. Hi everyone, I know that gambling is illegal here but what if it is only for show? Not using any money. I want to set up a casino theme party and have my guests playing with fake money coins etc. Will I get in trouble with the authorities or can I get a special license for this?

Any info what indeed be very helpful before I land in hot water!!!!

  6. There is also a speed boat service from Bang Rong, leaves every day at around 11am. Takes about twenty minutes and costs 150 baht. You cant take a motor bike on it though. I find that the ferries are really busy these days and the captains pile them high with people and stuff, if its calm its fine put in the rainy season I have had some quite hair raising experiences. I wouldnt worry about security either they are all very friendly and helpful. At the moment there are a lot of travellers going to and fro from Yao Noi.

Let me know if you need any info.

    Cheers from yao Noi

  7. Thanks everyone sounds pretty straight forward, I have a work permit but I have been surviving on a expired NZ licence which when show with confidence has got me through :o But its only a matter of time I guess. So I will resign myself to a day at the transport office with lots of photo copies with my and my wife in tow!

  8. Hi everyone,

I am sure this topic has been posted before and if some one has the link could they be so kind as to post it here?

Or if not I am finally going to get around to being legal behind the wheel and want to know what documents I need to take to get a car licence. Also is there a driving test at the place where you get the licence?

    Thank you very much

  9. Dont worry all your help is not in vain, I will still buy it in KK with your recomendation and its a good excuse to get into the big city with the rest of the family. I will get the car in Kalisin but I think all the bits I will be safer going to KK. Man I cant wait!!!

  10. Fantastic mate! Thanks alot!

I will actually buy it closer to Kalasin which is near the wifes house. Reason being is I dont do handouts but I try to give business to the locals/family as much as possible, its a fair way of helping out I think and no-one takes me for the gullible farang either. Its also a great excuse for a roadtrip!!!

    Thx algain for your help

  11. I remember going through the same thing a couple of years ago. I trawled through this forum and other internet sites. All the reading really just pointed out to me that there is no hard and fast rule. Sometimes you hear of thai/thai marriages with huge dowrys. It really is up to the individual and the better halfs family and how well of they are and where they stand in the village/community. I remember I had a discussion about it with my wife and it really came down to what I could afford, her family is quiet poor but they are very close and loving toward each other and support each other in every way. I paid 200K plus 2 baht gold. I saw that her father brought some more cattle and they now work really hard with their new herd, I feel guilty sometimes! I never get the sick buffelo story and when I go there they never ask anything from me or my wife, I always slip the mother in law some cash quietly when we leave, but not much.

In summery go with your gut feeling and talk to your future wife about it.

    Hope this helps a little.

  12. Wow, this is great! Thanks so much for the info.

Yes it always looks easy on the map! But you know once you start out...................I am thinking of leaving early morning then driving for maybe 5-6 hours per day and take it easy. Probably end of March I will head off.

I cant wait I have been renting cars since I got here and now I will have my own wheels yippeee.

  13. Hello everyone,

I am buying a Toyota Vigo in Khon Kean next year and then driving it down to Phuket where I live/work. I would like to get the new G3 hard back fitted before I leave.

    Some questions

Any body know the best place to buy and will they have stock or do I have to order and wait?

Any useful tips or info on doing the road trip from Khon Kean to Phuket?

Thanks so much for any info

    Cheers
