Must Read What happens to us when Thai insurance companies go bankrupt?
Joules replied to webfact's topic in Insurance in Thailand
There might be some confusion about Southeast Asia Insurance. There is also Southeast Insurance Public Company Limited also going out of business: https://today.fox-24.com/news/81245.html There goes my auto insurance on two vehicles. I renewed it not long ago. I suppose the premium I paid is now in the toilet. Nice doing business with you, Thailand. -

Thailand Named #1 Destination in Asia for Global Retirees
Joules replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News Headlines
YOIU are obviously not living here. Or, if you are a foreigner, you are Asian. That gets you a pass. If you are not a white westerner, then you cannot understand. By the way, you misspelled "victimized." -
Thailand Named #1 Destination in Asia for Global Retirees
Joules replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News Headlines
"Internationalliving.com has ranked Thailand the best destination in Asia and the 11th best in the world in its 2022 global retirement index." Ha, ha, ha. Somebody got a backhander!!! Make that the 1992 global index and it might be true. but any foreigner, especially white ones, that move here for "the duration" these days have either failed to do their homework or they are daft. I did, and if I had it to do again, I wouldn't. Bad mistake -- although, in my defense, I can say it has changed A LOT since I came well over a decade ago. Edit: I will also note that despite having lived here over a decade and a half and never having left the country at all in over ten years, I cannot cross the border out of Thailand for five minutes and come back in without a huge headache and an expensive quarantine, solely because I am a white boy. If I go and come with my Thai wife, she gets to go home. No quarantine for her. Is the the kind of double standard with which a retiree wishes to live? -
Thai hotel threatens customer with ฿3m lawsuit over bad review
Joules replied to webfact's topic in Isaan News
I wonder when people will start being victimized by lawsuits for giving one star reviews to bad products on Lazada? -
Anybody that comes to Thailand from abroad is a stinking fool. There are decent places to go without being jailed because you got sick. Just wait until these people get their extortionate bill! "I've asked them a couple of times how much [hotel quarantine] is going to cost and they just laugh and walk away," Yeah, real funny. Only in Thailand!!!!

Everybody probably heard what the authorities did to that poor Israeli bloke. Who wants that kind of treatment. Then this: "Meanwhile it was also reported that insurance companies face payouts of 20 billion baht on Covid policies - the new variant is overstretching them and means that many are facing losses after miscalculating the cost of policies." Man, that brought tears to my eyes. Happy to see those greedy phucks take it right in the ear end. Ripoff <deleted>. And they thought they were going to cut a fat hog. 555 555 555

Israeli Who Escaped Quarantine Will be Charged and Deported
Joules replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News Headlines
He didn't do a runner. Many hotels allow their guests to leave during the quarantine period for a fee. I am quite sure the guy just paid his fee and continued on with his vacation oblivious to the furor that followed. I seriously doubt that an Israeli who can afford to take a vacation in Thailand is a stupid as he is being portrayed. He's being scapegoated. -
Thai police launch crackdown on prostitution
Joules replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News Headlines
Good luck with that. While the popular perception might be that foreigners fuel the sex trade, Thai men fuel 90% of it, according to an article I read in the Bangkok Post years ago (before the coup when it was still relatively free). There are little brothels with proximity to nearly every Thai village, many disguised as karaoke bars. Good luck stopping something that is so thoroughly endemic to the culture. Getting rid of every single prostitute in Bangkok would not even make a dent in the covid spreading potential of this oldest profession. Edit: Government will never stamp out something people want. The US tried it with both Prohibition and The War on Drugs, both expensively failed disasters. If the Thai government is serious about stopping the spread of covid through this channel, the best way is to legalize it and require licensing and regular (free) testing. Of course, that can never be 100% but it would go a long way.
