I had been planning on living in Thailand for several years on my soon-to-arrive very small pension, (too small to obtain the retirement type visa for Thailand). I was going to do one visa run after another for a couple of years. But then I read that Thailand has recently placed a limit of 2 tourist visas in any one calendar year, which makes my plan a no go. Is this limitation an actual fact or not?

No more than 2 visas in one year?
in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits

I'm Canadian. Reading the visa section in my Lonely Planet, it refers to a non-immigrant visa. Is this the same as a multple entry non-o? What does the "o" stand for? A non-immigrant visa, according to L.P., requires a "good reason for your visit" such as study, business, retirement and extended family. None of these apply to me, so do I have to pretend that one of the above scenarios fits my situation? Is proof required? Or will the Thai consulate in Vancouver simply believe me if I tell them I'm going to Thailand for an extended period of meditation, which they would accept as "study"? Please excuse my lack of knowledge but this is new territory for me.
