  1. Prior posters have covered the Withholding tax factor, which is what I claim back. I get helped by a lady in the Saraphi office whose English is good. She is very nice and kind.

I, however, would like to add, that you can claim for 3 years prior, in the event that you did not do prior returns. I did mine in December, 2012 and received refunds for 2009, 2010 and 2011 prior to doing my 2012 return. I was fined 200.00 baht for being late.

  2. I opened my FCD account with BKK bank in October, 2007. I mention this, as I am unable to guarantee that their requirements have changed since then. At that time Bangkok bank advised me to firstly open the FCD account in the currency of my choice. This is necessary as you will need to tell your bank the FCD Account #, account holder's name., etc., as well as giving them the BKK bank's SWIFT code.

When you ask your bank to transfer funds to Thailand, I would think that you would ask your bank to transfer the currency of your choice, e. g. AUD.

By the way, if you happen to be on a RETIREMENT visa, the FCD account will be included in the 800 000.00 baht calculation.

Should you wish to chat via email, or SKYPE, I am quite happy to oblige.

  3. I have used Bangkok Bank to transfer money overseas with no problem. The fee charged is 400.00 baht, but there is a fee charged the other end, but I have not been able to quantify as to the rate(%) that is charged. It is however, not big, and for larger sums of money I think it is better, because WU charges increase depending upon the amount being charged, and I think there is also the safety factor not having to carry big sums in one's wallet. There is also a better rate of exchange transferring via the BANK vs WU. Obviously in order to do the transfer via the bank, you will need the recipient to have a bank account.

Should you wish to discuss this further, I am happy to chat outside this forum.

  4. I asked a good friend for the details. He is a very senior man in the PEA organisation.

I am pleased that I was able to assist you.

If you wish we can exchange email addresses for any future changes, should they occur.

I am UNSURE however, whether this forum allows me to give you my email address. SORRY for my ignorance in this regard.

    Cheers, and take care

No we really do not allow Email addresses on the forum. Thank you for this information & feel free to discuss this matter further on here for all members benefit . Updates can also be posted on here in this thread.

If you have a link to the current official PEA pricing structure, that would be great, I think mine is a few years old..

Thank you. Appreciate that. Where did this information come from?

  7. Not really news, because nothing is new except that they talked.

And considering the Nopadum has been trumpeting the meeting for a week it

was hardly 'met by chance in Norway'.

    Thaksin's position isn't news;

he wants the whole shooting match in his hands or he keeps fighting.

Reconciliation with him still in the picture is a red herring.

    Not going to happen.

We are so past the 4 year old coup that it is irrelevent to the actual reconciliation. It's not the coup but Thaksin wanting 'power' back that is the current issue at hand. Wailing on about the long past coup is just a political talking point.

Legal or not AT THAT TIME, it is legal now, since the country voted on a post coup constitution. To say that Thaksin's actions in the last 2 years have been legal is just so much smoke and mirrors. Many have not been and his illegal wrongs do not balance out the actions of the coup makers, and suddenly become legal, because they may have not acted legally.

Let's also not forget Thakin resigned as PM before the coup. and was no more than acting PM prior to that, and has returned and left again while his own crew was in power.

This is Thaksin wanting power again and nothing more,

    no matter the talking points.

The same tired discredited points wheeled out again. Some people have no sense of shame.

To take but one example the constitution was imposed on the Thai public by the junta. It passed only barely because most people just wanted an end to the incompetent quisling government. The junta made it clear that if the constitution didn't pass it would be promulgated anyway.Even then with the full weight of the army and state apparatus pushing it, the constitution only scraped through - a massive slap in the face to the criminal regime.

Firstly let me apologise for adding my comment so late.

I checked the stats in regard to the result and I see that the constitution was passed with a vote of 59.30%. In my humble opinion, that does not represent your comment, namely:

"It passed only barely because most people just wanted an end to the incompetent quisling government."

    in a very logical way.

    100.00% - 59.30% = 40.70%; 59.30% -40.70% = 18.60 The latter figure as a %age of 40.70% = 45.70% hardly a minuscule difference I would have thought?

This post is my first posting, in regard to a contentious issue,in Thaivisa, even though I have been a member for some years. My reason for stating this, is because I could not be bothered to respond to so much "drivel" that appears here. I guess I do not have the patience of certain other members who attempt so valiantly to argue with logic and common decency. To those guys please continue, and perhaps with luck someday you may be able to covert some people into being more rational human beings.

Cheers, and good luck to THAILAND! I love the country and most of the Thai people I meet. I just wish that TS would disappear from print. Sadly the MEDIA, as some people have suggested before, play a big part in keeping alive his aspirations to return!

  9. Agree with trainman, book yourself its usually cheaper and much safer in Thailand. As for good prices to Uk I generally use Qatar and book wiht them directly in their Office in Bkk if you dont mind a short stop over. If you want direct shop around, i have heard recently that Thai airways have some good deals for London which is unusual becuase they are generally the dearest.Other sites to check out would be Eva Air,(direct flight) or Ethiad, Gulf Air and Emirates all stop over in Middle east.

    Good luck

  10. Hi,

I know how to work out my electricity bill to the last satang. I am happy to provide you with the calculation excel spread sheet I use. I am however unsure if I am able to give you my email address here, or mobile phone number?

I am sorry that I am so vague about giving my contact details online?

  11. There is no need to change anyting - she can still come on a 30 day visa exempt entry - you can marry if you want - you both need a letter from your respective Embassy that you are single but with that, after translation/registration at Ministry of Foreign Affairs (translation service can do) you visit any District Office and register the marriage. Very easy process.

Once married, if you are on a retirement extension of stay from Immigration, she can visit a nearby Consulate to obtain a non immigrant O visa and then extend her stay to match yours as your dependent wife.

Lopburi, thank you so much for your concise response.

I have seen your posts many times, and I feel I would really like to phone you, as I am more comfortable with DIRECT COMMUNICATION.

Could you please allow me to phone you?

    Thank you.

  12. I thank you guys for your input, much appreciated.

The reason I did not consider her trying to get a Visa in Manila, is because she has been told it is difficult, and time consuming.

I must say, I am now somewhat confused as to what to do now.

I had considered the marriage option, but thought that would be difficult to do, here in Thailand, as we are both foreigners.

Do you know whether I am able to marry her in Thailand?

In the meantime, she is booked to fly on here on the 3rd Sep, 2009, and so IF I have bungled it, it will cost money to fix. I guess I was foolish not to have visited this website sooner.

Is it at all possible for me to call one of you experts? The SPOKEN WORD is so much easier?

I look forward to talking to an expert/s on the phone.

Thank you so much for your time.

  13. Firstly, forgive me if I appear to be “long winded”, but I do NOT want to waste anybody’s time, and therefore am trying to give you all the details to avoid “coming backwards and forwards”.

I am a “farang” who lives in Chiang Mai, and I have a RETIREMENT VISA.

I have a Filipina girlfriend who will shortly be coming to live here in Thailand with me. She is coming to live here, as I have no desire to relocate to The Philippines.

She will arrive in BKK, “armed” with a RETURN TICKET to Manila, to ensure there is no problem for her to gain entry into Thailand. The return ticket will NOT be used. As I understand it, she will automatically have a 30 day VISA STAMP entered into her passport.

After staying in Thailand for say 29 days(to be safe), my understanding is that if she goes to Vientiane(Laos), she will be able to obtain a 2 ENTRY VISA. This will enable her to stay 60 days on the 1st entry, and can then get a 30 day extension in Chiang Mai. She would then need to go to Mesai(I suggest Mesai, as it is the closest to CM), and use the 2nd ENTRY to come back into Thailand, and obtain a 30 day extension after 60 days.

    Please confirm:

    1) am I correct in what I have stated?

    2) assuming that I am correct, is this the best method to use?

    3) is it OK to go to Vientiane by bus? Someone told me she might need to go by plane.

I thank you for taking the time to read my post.

  15. Hi gang.

As an Aussie who is unable to get the cricket on cable in my condo.

I was wondering if anybody knows of any places that are showing it.

Went past a couple of bars/eateries today and all they had on was

    the tennis and soccer.

    Thanks for any info.

    Will

I am also an Australian who loves cricket, and I have a good source to suggest to you to get cricket world wide. I have a good satellite system. I do not know whether you are able to install a satellite as you are in a condo, but IF you can I suggest that it would be really good for you. By the way, I am currently watching the 4th ODI.
