  1. It would be helpful if we had an idea of the numbers of people who either do not have and will not have the 800k/400k in a bank for 3 months on Jan 1st. There will be many who will overstay and be fined if this issue is not resolved. There will also be many who will be forced to leave if they are unable to raise the required money in a very short time-frame. Many of those might be long-term residents, 10-20 years or more. How can they survive on a minimal pension if forced to return to UK or the EU? The relevant Embassies have a hand in creating this major headache and bear responsibility for not providing adequate notice. Is this an issue with the various Foreign Ministries?

  2. If youre healthy, don't buy it, as medical procedures are so cheap, they are almost free here. Only insure against major disasters. Otherwise, invest the money monthly in case you need it, instead of throwing it away on a policy youre unsure will payout in the event of a claim.

    .

Remember, insurance companies are the pros. We aren't. They ran all the numbers, and only offer policies that will benefit THEM, not us.

Medical procedures are so cheap? Which mythical, magical hospital have you been visiting? We need to know this place.

  3. Generally, which one is better for price/coverage and actually paying out AXA or BUPA ?

I'm looking for a policy also. I can't figure out if bupa platinum 2 mil covers chemotherapy, radiation, dialysis. I don't need them but if I ever did and didn't have cover I'd probably have to move home especially for dialysis permanently. Anyone know which policy or company has that as inpatient or paid for on an inpatient only policy even on outpatient basis?

Be careful of assuming that you can return to the UK and get free NHS treatment, you can't.

  4. This from another forum. I believe you are describing a "Tah-Kaw" tree. My Thai friend brought over two 18" saplings about nine months ago, telling me, "These will give you shade, very quickly." OMG, in 9 months, they've grown higher than my house roof (17-18 feet/5-6 meters). It's unbelievable. And, I now have the little red berries (about as large as a small marble, right?) but didn't have the courage to see if they were poisonous or not! Apparently you survived. The berries were preceded by small white blossoms about 1/2" to 3/4" across.

  5. I'm thinking of moving away from Thailand. Today we saw on TV the police stopping cars driven by medical personnel and doctors who were carrying medical supplies to the injured protesters in Bangkok. The police then smashed the windows and disabled the cars, making sure the injured would not be treated. They hide behind gas mask, just as they do in other police states, (USA, Russia, Syria etc.) and laugh at the disregard with which they hold the law. It is rumored that someone has employed gunmen to mingle with the protesters and randomly shoot them dead, scaring others away from the anti-Gov't rallies. The gov't is a weak puppet run from Macao or Dubai or wherever. Another bus crash in the north killed 29 people today, a situation that has been in place for 50 years and will remain in place as long as rogue bus companies pay the gov't MPs to ignore safety and the excessive hours and speeds the drivers are forced to employ to keep to the schedules. Along with daily corruption at every level, this Land of Smiles has slowly become a rat infested, leaking, festering abscess on the face of the earth. It's a pity, it could be paradise.

  6. I teach privately; around 4-6 students a week. They are mostly Uni graduates. They all suffer from the same problem; they have no experience of speaking any English. They can read, write and up to a point, listen, fairly well. Until the teachers are taught to conduct the classes only in English and speak only English in the classroom, the students have no hope.

    btw, I speak three languages.

  7. What a disgrace.

Thai troops have to withdraw from Thailand ground due to an order by FARANG.

Why can't Farang mind your own business.

This is a Thai problem, and Thai people can solve it, no need Farang referee.

Thailand belong to our Father, not Farang.

Maybe because the Thailand gov't has had many years to solve this problem, as have the Cambodian gov't, but neither side is willing to compromise. So to prevent a stupid and unnecessary war breaking out, a mediator (farang) has come along to defuse the situation. I would welcome him there if I were you.

I suggest a peace camp is established there with monks from both countries staying at the temple year round. There should not be any troops withing 50 miles of the place.
