Go to a fabric/silk dealer and have it made.  If not in Thailand, buy the material and have it made when you are back home.

You aren't going to find anything that will suit your tastes because most people don't have tables that big.

I used to buy raw silk in Thailand & Cambodia for exactly this purpose.

some years ago, i made some silk buyings in a small "mall" in Little India, in BKK. I wonder if it still exists...

  2. Does anyone know if the thai style (silk?) tablecloths, that you can easily find in shops, are "one size only"? I wonder where i could find a big size (for a table for 10 people, for example)...

I am now outside Thailand, but i will return soon (i hope).

  3. They do this in Pattaya, down the side of Mike Shopping Mall.. They cheat in a way, they use a projector and paint over the projection.

I had a portrait done of my son, and it was about A3 size.. They done it off a photograph and I must say it was the best 2500 THB I have ever spent here.

    It was an excellent job.

Right, they do that in Pattaya (some more professional job also), but, like i said, this time i wont be around Patts, that's why i ask about BKK, the only place i will be more than 3 days.

  4. I know everyone is worried about fllod, and i dont want to seem disrespectful but i am planning my trip to Thailand in November and i wanted to know something.

I have oredered and bought some painting reproductions in Pattaya, last year, when i stayed there for about a week.

This time, i will be staying little time in every city i wil visit, except 4days i will stay in BKK (and a few hours later, on departure day). So i am thinking of making my repoductions in BKK. As far as i have read here, i think i should go to MBK, or do u know any place else, considering the time i have? In MBK, ground flour, right? Or other floors too? And do u think one shop can make me how many painting reproductions (kets say 50x50 cm, or 60x60 cm) in 3-4 days? I know price should be negociated, but how much should i expect to pay for each one?

Thank you so much for your help.

  5. Why do you want to go to Phi-Phi? Are you younger set that likes the party atmosphere of Phi-Phi Don Village?

Why and what exactly do you want to do in Phang-Nga?

Actually, Phi-Phi was out of my plan. But i was asked to included it by someone for whom it would be important to visit.

Why? more or less the same answer. What to do? Beach time

  6. Later this year, I will havesome free time, since the day i will leave BKK (on the 10th) until the day i have to arrive in Chiang Mai (on the 15th). I was thinking of flying Bkk-Krabi on the 10th and Phuket-Chiang Mai on the 15th. Also dividing time between Ao Nang-Phi Phi and Phang Nga.

I as told I should say 1 night in Phuket, before flying to Chiang Mai, because I could not reach the airport from the island on time, if I would't. But I am not happy with that, as I have so little time.

So, can I avoid that night in Phuket? If so (of if not), how would you divide the time? 2 nights in Ao Nang, 2 nights in Phi Phi and 1 night in Phang Nga? 1-2-2? 2-1-2?

    Thanks for our comments.

  7. Hi Guys,

"Vint Danail, 25 and Roatis Sergiu Virgil, 24,..."

Danail is not a romanian name. Probably Daniel.

Sergiu Virgil is a romanian name but Roatis no chance!!!

    -

    Cheers.

Your name seems to be romanian, that's why i dont understant why you say Roatis cant be a romanian family name: i am not romanian, but i have here a list of people from almost all nationalities and ALL named Roatis are romanian...

  8. Where can i find and buy cardamom/cardamom seeds in BKK? I know there is a kind of "Siam cardamom", among others, but am interested on any kind i can find, because i was told every kind has similar effects on food.

Personally, i would prefer to buy it in a shopping mall shop, rather than in a market, because it is less hard to find someone english speaking...

<br />how about   <b>IXOCIETY </b>  AS IN "HIGH SOCIETY" DIFFERENT SPELLING FOR THIS CHIQUE PLACE<br />
<br /><br />Yeah, myself I like that, but from what I've seen the 'I'm better than you' clubs tend to do better with normal 'I'm just like you' type names.   XOCIETY only maybe?    <br /><br /><img src='http://static.thaivisa.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' /><br />
    <br /><br />`Nunca Nunca Terra `,  its Portuguese for `never never land `  bout right methinks !<br />
    <br /><br /><br />

Portuguese for "never never land" should be "terra do nunca nunca".

  10. I thank you very much for your help and effort.

This is what I am talking about. This one is about 18-20 cm high.

Positive I have seen those Monk figurines (in varying sizes) in a few shops in JJ Mall (Jatujak) when I went past about a year ago.

Sorry, don't live close enough to go and have another look. :D Maybe another member could confirm? :)

You are probably right: this one was bought in JJ. However, in Feb 2008, they said they had closed their shop(s) in JJ and had only taht one in Silom. Maybe the information was wrong, but, some days before, I looked and I looked and I looked...and I asked in JJ and could not find.

Maybe they are in JJ again, now.

  11. Ok, that makes sense. I'll take a walk down Patpong 1 tomorrow and have a look.

Thank you. I am now leaving for countryside until Sunday and I won't have internet access, I will read your information Sunday evening or Monday. Thanks again.

  12. What else did the shop sell? Might be useful in identifying it. It was a shop though, not a stall... yes?

I'll be around Sala Daeng during the day tomorrow so could easily take a walk down and check for you.

That's right, it's a shop, not a stall. When I Found it, during the evening, I was passing by, behind the stalls. The shop has a lot of souvenir stuff, like little statues, "antiques" (with or without " ", I don't know), silver (or "silver"?). Not the fake rolexs or Nike stuff.

There were, maybe, 5-7 statues/dolls/puppets like the ones I told you about, realistic budhist monks, in the praying position.

    Thank you for your help.

  13. Some time ago, I found in Patpong 1 (almost at the left end, if you start in Silom rd) a shop where I saw...how should I say in english (not my native language...)...small statues? dolls? puppets? ... of monks, very realistic, maybe made of wax.

I was told, inside the shop, the can made them with the face you ask the artist to, as long you provide some pics of the person you want to be the model (front, side and back).

There are 2 or 3 sizes, the small one about 20 cm high, the bigger ones about 40 cm, don't know if there was a medium size.

I can't remember exactly the price, though I know it was not cheap (well, what is cheap in Patpong, during the evening, for a typical farang tourist?). However, I thought it could be a unusual gift for someone, as long as I can get a good price.

Does anyone know about that shop? Can anyone get me their email adress and get to know their "best prices" (not for farang tourists)?

I thought I could email them first, send the pics after and arrange things to get the statue/puppet/doll when I am there for the next cold season holidays. All that in 2 months...

    Thank you very much.

  14. Usually,I book hotels through their websites. Now, wanting to book hotel in Samet, i find some hotels can be booked easier and with cheaper fares using some booking sites. I already read about agoda, but never heard about r24.org, or hotels2thailand.

Anyone used their services already? Any reviews? Any other good sites?

    Thanks a lot.

  15. Thank you, chiang mai and MJo.

If MJo is right and i must leave 3 hours between flights, Tiger is out (last flight departing at 18.00 and I'm arriving at 16.30).

Singapore Airline's last flight is at 18.50 (668 SGD, 2 pax), Air Asia's at 20.40 (518 SGD) and Thai Airways' at 21.00 (590 SGD).

Thai seemed to be the best option, if, like MJO said, I could check my luggage from Lisbon (my departure city). But Lufthansa, wich i called this morning, said I can't, because I will not be using only one ticket.... Bad luck, it seems.

So, the coice wil be between Thai and Air Asia.

  16. I will arrive in Singapore on February 7th, at 16.30, flying with Lufthansa and I want to go to BKK. Would it be better for me to stay overnight in Singapore and fly to BKK only next morning (and to Samet, my final destination, by taxi), or to catch another plane still on the 7th?

As I have to pass passport control, catch my bag, check-in again and pass passport control again, would I have time enough to catch a 19.50 plane to BKK, for instance?

Wich airline, having these aspects in mind, should I prefer?

    Thank you for your information.

  17. In 2008, I went for the first time to Pattaya. I was aware the beach in Pattaya was not good, but i was told Jomtien beach was good enough. Well, I found it a little better, but I'm still lokking for even better.

Now, some people talk to me about Naklua Beach and about Wang Amat beach, so i have some questions:

1- What kind of beaches are they? Quiet or Crowded? Safe?

2- Do they have restaurants or similar places there, where I can eat and drink?

3- Is it possible to go there using the baht bus? If not, how would it cost me, daily, to rent a motorbike?

4- If i stay in South Pattaya, how far i am from Naklua or Wang Amat? How long does it take me to get there?

    Thanks.

  18. A few days (weeks?) ago, i was reading someone complaining about weather in Pattaya, saying it was too cold, specially in the evening.

I am supposed to get there in 2 weeks, what can i expect? What is the weather like, now?

  19. I always book using hotel websites and i never had a complain (of course i wait for confirmation by email too). Some ppl sometimes say they get better deals with an agency, but i did some search for the hotels i was looking for and i found it was better to deal with the hotel itself.

By phone is usually more expensive, ppl say, though i've never tried.
