  1. Pattaya is the armpit of the universe.

I read a quote somewhere else on here that said Pattaya was where the worst of the east meet the worst of the west.

    Brilliant and true statement. :jap:

And still we love it so much that we keep coming back year after year after year.....

  2. I just avoid the few places where the police usually stops MC´s, or atleast keep an eye out when approaching them.....watch on what side of the road they are pulling ppl over etc...

The trick isn´t to have a passport and driving license - it´s to avoid getting pulled over.

    still sucks though :)

It sure sucks doesn't it? Fancy the police wanting to check your documents. Whatever next huh?

Don't have a problem with them checking my documents as I always have them with me, what sucks is the thought that having found your docs in order they then look for any other excuse to extract a little tea money.

Exactly my point also, thats why it´s better to "play the game" by their rules....

Same goes when/if involved in an accident....bail out if possible...no matter what, it´s going to cost you something....at best u only loose time - if lucky.

  4. Basicly it comes down to if you drink alot and where you drink.....you have to learn where to spend small money and still have a good time :D

I used to spend about 2500b/day on average when i stayed in pattaya for 3-5months, and most of that was beer, booze and birds in bars.

Let me do a budget for ya:

Room(big clean room with AC, TV, balcony, internet etc) - 6-9000b inc. electricity etc - you DON`T want a crappy place to stay in if you will be there for many months!!!

MC(a must) - 2000/month (or buy an old one since you are stayin there for awhile)

150baht a day gives you the essential stuff like food and condoms :D

So there you have it, around 15000b/month without visaruns or anything special to do, the rest is up2u......

I will also be going to pattaya in a few months and staying 6-9months this time, and my budget will be 40000b/month up to 70000b...depending om my mood :)

Rule #1 have to be: get a girlfriend that has her own money....or even better, get a girlfriend that has her husbands money :D

  5. Is it really that quiet during this lowseason ?

For me it doesnt really matter, lowseason or highseason - i like them both.....

Was in Pattaya for a few weeks during songkhran and to me it felt like it was "worse" than earlier years, more people and even better than expected :) ....maybe just imagination or ?

No matter what i will be back in october and i guess we´ll see then!!

  6. depens on where you live for the registration, theres a place on prakanong(lower sukhumvit)...but i think you may be able to get it done at a post office...regarding insuradnce, any insurance company can provide you with the 'po la bo' sticker...

before getting the registration , you have to get the bike inspected at a certified inspection station...unless it i has been 2 years since last registration, then no need...i know this is accurate for cars, but not sure about bikes.

The bike is already registered in my name, but i need to pay tax and the incurance? every year , right ?

It is registered in bkk but i use it in pattaya :o

  7. My theory is that if you're going faster than everybody else on the road you only have to worry about the idiots in front of you.

I do it the same way, atleast inside citylimits(daytime), go to slow and it becomes really dangerous, but it´s mostly about getting used to the traffic and the quality of the roads :D

On the highways just try to go at a good steady pace(~100km/h) KEEP to the left and watch out for idiots, dogs and holes in the road ahead of you :o

Still only 2 minor incidents in ~10000km´s driving, 1partially caused by me, but no broken bones or spilled blood - only lost a few satangs :D

  8. Well, if you dont like the bars etc in pattaya why not stick to the "outskirts" of pattaya, not like entire chonburi province is filled with bars, nightlife and drunken farangs.... :D

Besides, sooner or later soi 6,7,8 is gonna have to move or what do you guys think ?

Just let evolution take it´s course and pattaya will be fine.....

But imagine pattaya without bars, gogo´s, discos etc etc :o

Would be like....ehh...HuaHin...but more spread out since atleast 75% of the tourism would be gone.

People like me go to pattaya for the atmosphere, it´s a package like someone said - you get it all :D

  9. back to topic :D i am pretty sure they started at midnight between 11th and 12th last year.

And since the 11th this year is a friday it will probably be the same this year :o

But 18th and 19th is ofcouse the highlights, the week before is just...ehh...hmm...a reason to get pissed :D

  10. Good luck dude, i´ve been thinkin about making some trips on my small bike but never gotten to it, you gave me some inspiration :D

Was thinking about 1 stupid farang that can read thai at the same level as a 3year old(me), 1 yamaha Spark135 and a small backpack up in isaan/north thailand - maybe it´s a good idea.

Only problem is that it might get very boring alone :o

  11. And don't let anyone talk you into a Wave just for the disc brake. Comparing a Wave with a Dream is like comparing a Toyota with a Rolls Royce. Honestly - i never sat on a bike more comfortable than a Dream, if you have one, keep it!

    Best regards.....

    Thanh

Actually there are lots of bikes thats more comfortable than a dream, yamaha spark135 for example, better dampers, better performance and more comfortable to drive :o

  12. Anybody who rides on 2 wheels rather than 4, irrespective whether it be Thailand or elswhere in the world, are showing a total disregard to their own safety anyway. Thailand and other countries would be a much safer place without them, the statistics prove it.

Great idea, and all should be driving around in SUV´s, preferably 1 person in each car :o

  13. Once you have tried riding around on a MC in bangkok you learn to appriciate the calm traffic on the sois in pattaya :D

The only thing that pisses me off is usually the bahtbusses, totally screws up the traffic....

And how come it´s only farangs in their 50-80´s having problem crossing the roads safely, maybe it´s time to addapt to the traffic here in thailand ? yeah thats the second thing that pisses me off when riding a MC over here - farangs walking around like the road was made for pedestrians :o

  14. answer from mai sai immigration : '' not possible with tourist visa , need a non immigrant ''

Which is why they have the provision for the letter from the embassy.

At my embassy, you fill out a form, wait for the notary, swear that all the information is correct, pay the fee (1800B) and voila => Official Notarized Embassy confirmed address in Thailand.

Cost is much more. Hastle about the same. But, at least there is a way when immigration throws up the roadblocks.

Maybe it´s different from embassy to embassy, for me(sweden) it costed 500baht and only needed to show a rentalagreement showing my address and my passport.

30minutes later i had the Proof of Residence

  15. Hi all,

Well, I have narrowed my search into two models:

1: the Honda Wave 125i with 4 gears, air cooling, electric start, spoke wheels and disc brake in the front, price approx. 48,500 baht.

2: the Yamaha Spark 135i with 5 gears, liquid cooling, electric start, alloy wheels and disc brake in the front, price approx. 52,500 baht

The Spark seem to be a little bigger than the Wave, and maybe too big for a small thai woman ?

So what do you think, which one would be the best choice for me and my wife ?

The bike will mostly be used for shorter trips, going to the market, to town, and the like.

    North

I forgot to add that if you are planning on riding 2persons on the bike alot the Spark135 is far superior the wave125, the differance in power REALLY makes a differance.

Basicly a spark with 2persons is quicker than a wave125 with 1 person.

I´ve only had my spark for a few weeks but i really like it - don´t understand why it isnt more common.....

Downside with spark is ofcouse the lack of storagespace...

  16. Get a proof of residence from your consulate. Bring a phone bill ,Electic or house reg. Passport. valid visa, Cash.

Take original POR and passport (Not copy) to the bike shop they will make the PP copy and have you sign it.

    Easy...

Will i get a Proof of Residence from the embassy here in bkk even though i only have a touristvisa ?

    i´ll answer this myself :D

yes, in bkk you will get a PoR from the embassy(atleast the swedish) with a touristvisa.

Now i´m riding around on my new motorbike happy as ever :o

In pattaya it seemed to be more hassle regestering a MC....
