Look into India. About a third of the price of Thailand for this kind of work.

My wife fell breaking her jaw and teeth. As well as other non-related dental work the quote in Nakhon Sawan was 335,000 THB for work done on 18 teeth including 5 implants, 4 crowns & 3 bridges.

I sent xrays to dentists in Calcutta and we are going in Jan for stage 1 over 2 weeks, then stage 2 over a week 3 months later. For a cost of 116,000 THB (INR equivalent). Great food & drink whilst there too!!

Any feedback on India.  I would usually get medical/dental care in the Philippines, Singapore or Thailand.  I would be willing to go to India, if it made financial sense.  However, dental implants require multiple visits.

PS I know this is an old post. The original post that included prices at various dental clinics was very interesting to me.

  2. I went to the Chinese clinic at the St Louis Hospital, Sathorn Road earlier this year.

There is a 'pinned' (no pun intended) thread at the top of this forum discussing acupuncture

I was also happy with St Louis Hospital. By the way, it is very close to a BTS station.

  3. I met a pretty female doctor who has MS in Dermatology from Boston University and a certificate from Harvard University in Dermatologic Laser at an American Chamber of Commerce Event. Her name is Siremon Thongsima. She's at Nakornthon Hospital on Rama II Road in Thonburi area (but only 20 mins taxi ride from Central World area). The clinic also has all the standard FDA/CE approved equipments.

I had visited there last month and was impressed with the doctor, nurses and the equipment they had. Best of all, the cost was actually reasonable.

If you remember, could you post the costs? Different people have different thoughts on what is reasonable. :) With the increase in fees at Bangkok hospitals in recent years, I am not sure if Singapore is still much more expensive. I know last year the consult fee was 76 SGN ($54USD, 1,760 THB), which I thought was high. As I will be in both Bangkok and Singapore in the next 60 days, I have some options.

PS In Singapore, I went to the National Skin Centre. An inexperienced dermatologist thought I had a suspicious growth. I went to National Skin Centre as they do MOHS surgery. Dr said it was not problem. I decided to have it removed anyway. Biopsy - no problems. Have NOT had Mohs at NSC. I would always check how often the surgeon performs MOHS surgery.

PPS Very happy with Dr and NSC.

  4. Interesting that I had the same question come up with the diagnosis of a small basal cell carcinoma on my nose. My dermatologist (Dr. Niyom) is at Bumrungrad with qualifications from the USA in Moh's, but I have spoken with him and they no longer perform Moh's at Bumrungrad (although it's still listed in their site) because as he put it: the required technicians were not adequate there. From what I can find, the closest hospital doing Moh's is at the National Skin Centre in Singapore. I suppose the problem is that basal cell carcinoma is something that is not all that common in Asians.

By the way, the link above to Mahidol leads to a page with a listing for a dermatologist in Rhode Island, USA. However, I did some searching and found that there is apparently a Dr. Rungsima Wanitphakdeedecha at Siriraj Hospital who is qualified in Mohs, but I have so far been able to get in touch with anyone there who can give me a definitive answer regarding whether they actually perform the procedure there.

Looks like it might be a trip to Singapore!

Did you end up getting the surgery done in Singapore? Any observations? advice?

  5. Some people say "visa" but mean "permission to stay" so let's be sure that your reference to visa expiration means that on your visa, which you got from a Thai embassy/consulate, it says something like "this visa must be utilized before ?? DEC 2008"...

I see that you understand clearly that you do not need a re-entry permit for your three arrivals in Thailand before November 24. You do not say when you plan to return to Thailand after your departure on November 25. If this return will be after your visa expiration date of ?? DEC 2008 you definitely need a re-entry permit to keep the one-year permission to stay you receive on November 24 alive.

    ...

Allow yourself at least 30 minutes extra time for this and don't forget to take two passport photos along. There is no photo shop at the airport to have photos taken.

    Maestro

I really appreciate all the input. Given that I will be in Thailand for less than 24 hours, I was (am!) slightly paranoid about the process. I would hate to end up with a tourist visa because of a foulup.

FYI - When I refer to the visa expiration, I mean the date the Thai embassy indicated when I got my visa last December. After my brief stop in Bangkok, I will not return until January, after my visa has expired. My plan is indeed to use the re-entry permit to keep alive my one year permission to stay alive. With everyone's help, it appears that getting a re-entry permit is not nearly as difficult as I imagined.

  6. When I enter Thailand on my multiple entry non-immigrant O-A visa, my passport is stamped with a date one year from my arrival date (1 year stay). When I return on November 24, 2008, my passport will be stamped November 23, 2009. If I purchase a multiple re-entry permit, I can leave and return to Thailand using my re-entry permit until 11/23/2009.

PS In the past, I have just used my O-A visa. However, the visa will expire in December.

  7. There is a re-entry permit office at the airport. It is behind the glass and to the left where you enter to do your immigration departure check. You have to check into your flight first to enter where it is located so allow plenty of time to get the permit. Be sure you have a photo thats required.

According to the calender I have the 24th is not a holiday.

Could I get it upon arrival? Is the office available at 4pm? My new flights arrive at 15.35 and departs the following day (Nov 25, 2008) at 15.05.

Thanks for the help Mario2008 and ubonjoe!

PS I know that I will be entering Thailand at least 3 times prior to November 24, 2009. Given this, the multi re-entry permit gives me more flexibility for the same price.

  8. I received a one year Non Imm O visa in December 07. Upon each entry it has been stamped 1 year from the date I enter Thailand. In November 08, I will enter the country (Nov 09). I then plan on getting a multiple-entry permit. This should allow me to go in and out of the country until Nov 09. At that point, I plan to get a new non "o" visa from my home country.

I would like to confirm my understanding of the procedure. Will this plan work?

  9. I need to return to the USA for 3 weeks. Any suggestions on where to go for the cheapest airfare? I could leave from anywhere the LCC fly to (BKK, KUL, SIN, MNL). My final destination is South Florida but I could book an LAX, Chicago, NY flight plus a domestic tix. My other choice is to purchase a one-way tix.

I am sure that this question has been asked before but my search did not turn up a match. If anyone does know a link to where this question has already been answered, I would appreciate it.

    Thanks

PS I would prefer to travel a Star Alliance airline (United, Thai, Asiana + others)
