  1. I would like transfer funds to a thai account for monthly living expenses.

Please give me your experiences, guidance in doing this without incurring high HSBC charges.

I do know that a while back I made a large  tx to a thai account and I was charged about 45 GBP.

Yes, I do have thai bank accounts.

My wish is to transfer funds e.g. $1500 monthly for living expenses.

I would be very unhappy if this monthly tx incurred a 45 GBP each time.

    Much appreciated.

  2. I had these recently. Saw the retina specialistear at bkkhkt hospital. He appeared thorough in his examination. Was told...

I have a retinal tear. Used laser to repair it.

    16000baht.

Follow up exam 2 weeks later...6000b.

If I don't repair it, it can get worse. Means the gel in the eyeball can flow out thru the tear. If the floaters multiply or I see blinking lights or anything abnormal, go to emergency asap or could lose my sight.

My advice...if my sight is in question,  i would see the specialist asap.

  3. KB,

    Just an update...

Went to BKK for my pp renewal last week.

All done smoothly. Now waiting for the new pp to arrive via ems.

    Thank you for your help.

Of special mention is the attachment you sent and the post from CNX355 where he provides gps coordinates for the Fuji shop.

I have difficulty walking due to age and stuffed up hips and knees. I gave the gps coords to the taxi driver. Lo and behold after fighting bkk traffic for about an hour, he parks right opposite the fuji shop. Amazing technology. Would like to thank CNX355 for his post and saving me time and effort in locating the photo shop. If there is a way you could do that for me in the forum, it would be appreciated. I will send him a pm.

  4. My current 5 year Canadian passport expires in July.  Its a simple, straight forward renewal. I don't use the Canadian pp for Immigration requirements in Thailand.

I have been to the website for the BKK embassy and obtained the forms etc.

I live in Phuket, so will need to travel to BKK to renew this.

I am looking for any helpful info from anyone who has done a renewal recently.

    Tips on Photo, Fees, Process,

p.s. The last time I renewed my pp, it was done while I waited in the office. Is that still possible?

    thanks.

  5. Thanks LIK for the quick reply.

Would also like to suggest that it doesn't have to be a hotel.

Also that Surin/Laguna areas are more convenient for me.

  6. Hi,

Looking for a venue that will have a party atmosphere e.g a band or some entertainment over a 5 star dinner on Christmas Eve.

Not looking for a crazy time :) I am too old for that. Just want to entertain some guests from overseas with classy place with a few drinks and great dinner.

Any info from those in the know would be appreciated.

  7. Recommendations to avoid high costs please.....

My wife needs glasses. She spends a lot of time looking at a computer screen for work, and is now squinting.

Years ago I remember someone recommended a good optometrist in Phuket town.

Would appreciate input on an Optometrist as well as a reliable optician to fill the prescription.

    thanks.

  8. Hi all,

Looking for current info on requirements/process for renewing my current 5 year licence for the next 5 years in Phuket please.

    Documentation required?

    Medical Certificate required?

Certificate of Residence Address from Immigration?

What tests are to be expected at the DLT?

Time required at DLT for the renewal.

Impact of doing the renewal a few days past validity expiry?

    Much appreciated.

  9. LannaDS, Felipesed, Dennism53, Yorkshire Tyke,

Thanks for your input folks. Much appreciated.

I will check 8 Villas for the next time.

    Geriatrickid,

Thanks for standing up for me. In my experience Thaivisa forums have helped me a lot. I never get into posting battles with brainless people who don't seem to know what "pet friendly" means. Nor do they appear to understand what a "resort" means in Thailand!

We found a nice place in Phang Nga. Not too far from us. Will post our experience after the break.

  10. Hi all,

I am looking for a dog friendly resort north of Chumpon and south of HH for a short break. Bang Sapan area is preferred.

This is for April 10-13 during Songkran hols.

Would prefer not far from the beach. Need a "nice" resort with food facilities not far.

We have to take our quiet, very well behaved daughter (dog) along. She is a Spitz. We will naturally cover any damage. Never had any issues in 6 years of travel.

    We are a mature couple.

Any help would be most appreciated.

  11. Folks,

Thanks so much for the great input. This is what I love the TVF for.

The tips on the bypass roads for Saraburi and Korat are appreciated.

    Yes, I have a cam.

My wife can assist in driving, but I am never comfortable with it :)

The dog always goes with us, and some local travel in BKK and KK dictated driving vs. flying.

I am not rushing the trip. Phuket to BKK, we always stop in Prachuap or Petchaburi for a night.

    Much appreciated.

  12. H,

Looking for guidance driving from BKK to KK. I am from Phuket, so not familiar with BKK.

Yes, we have to make a stop in BKK.

    From the map, from BKK......

I head towards Ayuthaya, but turn East on Route 2 (AH12) to Saraburi, on to Korat, and KK.

Looks simple enough, but would like confirmation/advice on this.

    Thanks.

  13. Shot, The answer is, yes. I need a falang to go up the roof and attic and give me a rational explanation for the leaks and what should be done to fix it.

Madmitch, That may be true, but getting them to take on a job like this is almost impossible. I also don't agree with their logic about the reason for the leaks after 2 yrs of no problem.

  14. Hi all,

I thought I'd stop replying on this thread coz the whole thing is a bit frustrating and I am over the issue anyway. But as a respect to new posters, here is an update. Note that it is an update of my experience. Not a whinge.I have accepted the ineptitude and moved on.

    KB,

I went to the Phang Nga branch to verify this for next year. Manager not present. However, an English speaking teller (teller position 1) knew the whole story well.

My first q to her was "Do you know what is reqd by Immig for a 1 year retirement extension?" She answered perfectly as the 2 docs in question. She went on to say the same thing I was told by my Tesco branch. "As bank policy we don't sign the 3 month statement. But if the customer insists, then the manager has instructed us to issue it .Normal process for a 3 month statement is "apply to BKK. It takes 7 days to get it". Well that was not heart warming to me.

    JetsetBkk,

Good for you. Just don't presume that the same lady will be there next year.

    Partington,

This info is for Phuket Immig. You are also not current in your info. This requirement in Phuket was introduced recently. Req is for a 3 month statement signed and issued by the bank . Not a copy of the passbook pages (which I included and were discarded from my app by the Volunteer Officer). There is a more detailed recent thread on the topic which you might refer to.

Interesting that per my post #12, no one has replied saying they use the Tesco branch!
