  1. A friend of mine, who had lived in Thailand for a few years, returned to Oz to claim his age pension at 65 and was told he couldn't claim it, because he hadn't lived in Oz for the previous 2 years. He has had to live in Oz and take the odd holiday in Thailand for 2 years before he can get his age pension. He will then be restricted on the amount of time he can spend outside of Oz, otherwise his pension can be stopped.

From information that I have read on various forums my understanding is that if you are in Australia before you turn 65yrs that

You will get paid the OAP but you will have to stay in Australia for 2 years without leaving the country after that you are FREE to live anywhere and receive the basic OAP excluding any of the addons that would be received in Australia.

If you leave Australia during this period the 2 year NON PORTABILITY period resets to 2 years.

There is an interesting thread over at this link.

Apologies to MODS if this link should not have been posted thought OK because a non competing free forum

  2. I am coming to Bangkok this week and I have several old functioning laptops. Plus a couple which have issues.

The working Laptops are Toshiba R100's one has a docking station and a spare working hard drive both have the extra travel battery.

The non working ones are Toshiba M300's (that work with a separate monitor so have screen issues)

I want to pickup a new Netbook as my spare Laptop and my query is do you think I would be able to get some sort of discount/trade in value on the new one.

I have only ever bought parts from Pantip in the past.

  3. I have 205/70R15 BRIDGESTONE DUELER tyres on a 2000 Model Toyota Sportrider and recently noticed squealling when doing u turns. I will inspect tomorrow. Whilst they are still street legal they are getting down on tread.

What is a reasonable price range for the above type of tyre.

Any suggestions on other makes/brand, rough costs etc would be apprecaited.

    Our location is Udon Thani

Here ya go.. Not sure if the have a location up your way I think they do but anyway it'll give you an idea of cost as they're as competitive as any.

Thank you for your reply with the Web address it has given me an idea on what is available and pricing.

They do have a location approximately 125 km's from our location here in Udon Thani.

  4. Is only your pppoe connection drops or ADSL sync also drops? Check the router log for that. Anyway I can't think of any way MTU can cause disconnections... With MTU too high usually you will see some sites not loading (like Hotmail, Yahoo Mail) and other sites loading just fine.

BTW, MTU 1492 works just fine for me here in Phuket for TOT connections...

Could you please post a screenshot of a relevant Belkin config page?

Firstly sorry to bust into the OP thread but I am looking to setup my old Billion BiPac 7404 VGP with Annexe M that I bought with me from Australia recently.

I am with True online and using their supplied modem which is a 1 Port ZyXEL WiFi V1.

I will do a factory reset on my Billion Modem ans I also have all of the True login details password etc having installed connect myself.

Would appreciate forms assistance in the PPPOE settings and any other changes in configeration that I need to make.

Again sorry for breaking into thread but it seemed logical given that similar details were being sort.

  5. I found this thread searching Google. Is anybody able to tell me if there are any new options or services? I would like to setup a Thailand SIP number for using within the USA to call Thailand, or to receive a call from Thailand.

In the past, I have signed up with various pay services, and didn't always use up my minutes. is there anything that is via the internet that is completely free or extremely cheap? Perhaps one that I don't need to pay 10 -15 USA dollars?

Is anybody familiar with this one: http://www.truenetta...ruenettalk.html

  6. I am looking for a suitable clothes line to install at a house.

Can anyone advise whether this type of folding clothes line is available in Udon Thani or a shop that sells anything similar. Homepro had the portable stand type, but I am looking for a more permanent type fixture as detailed in image attached.

  7. Hopefully they make an arrest very soon.

The Thai govt issued a very stern warning at the beginning of all of this stating that foriegners had no place at the protests and rightly so. This very foolish person has brought this upon himself, society has too many people like this, hopefully he won't see the light of day for a very long time. Hope hes fond of fish head soup. :)

Maybe they will allow him to have mushy peas with his soup instead of rice.

  8. In the video at about 1.52 in whilst introducing himself he states that he is Irish and an Australian. So just perhaps he was Irish and moved to Australia (guess thats our badluck that he lays claim to being Australian).

Not saying anything against the Irish, just that we drew the short straw and ended up with him.

Hopefully the Thai authorities can round him up shortly and throw him in the monkey house, we don't need him back in Australia.

  9. In a Chicago hospital, a gentleman had made several attempts to get into the men's restroom, but it had always been occupied.

    A nurse noticed his predicament.

Sir, she said ' You may use the ladies room if you promise not to touch any of the

    buttons on the wall.'

He did what he needed to, and as he sat there he noticed the buttons he had promised not to touch.

Each button was identified by letters: WW , WA , PP, and a red one labeled ATR.

Who would know if he touched them?

He couldn't resist. He pushed WW... warm water was sprayed gently upon his bottom.

What a nice feeling, he thought. Men's restrooms don't have nice things like this..

Anticipating greater pleasure, he pushed the WA button. Warm air replaced the warm water, gently drying his underside.

When this stopped, he pushed the PP button. A large powder puff caressed his bottom adding a fragile scent of spring flower to this unbelievable pleasure.. The ladies restroom was more than a restroom, it is tender loving pleasure.

    When the powder puff

completed its pleasure, he couldn't wait to push the ATR button which he knew would be supreme ecstasy.

Next thing he knew he opened his eyes, he was in a hospital bed, and a nurse was staring down at him.

'What happened?' he exclaimed. The last thing I remember was pushing the ATR button.

'The button ATR is an Automatic Tampon Remover. Your penis is under your pillow.'

    MEN NEVER LISTEN

  10. Remember she is Thai Police. A completely different species to the rest of the World.

Curious on outcome of this. Did you get vehicle back or does saga continue??

  11. Latest: They didn't show with the car. They thought we had Police watching. I know what Lindenburg felt like now

Seems that they are bothered about being identified with the vehicle in there possession, although they have been in contact.

Why don't they leave vehicle locked in BigC or similar place and courier/motor bike taxi keys to you. They could then phone through vehicles location to you. Assume that vehicle is being returned without you being further out of pocket?

  12. A young Thai lady rented one of our cars a fortnight ago, along with two scooters ( MO-Ci's).She checked in everyday with the same story. " One more day please" We didn't think anything of it, after all she was Police, from the border patrol. We eventually found out she had hocked our vehicles, along with one rented from the Petchkasem hotel.

We reported it to her bosses. Now this is a response that could only happen here.

" Stolen two cars and two bikes and sold them. Oh dear. She's always doing that"

If 'she's always doing that' what the <deleted> is she doing walking around free. To compound matters, the people she hocked them with have contacted us and said " You can have the cars back when you pay up"

    " But they're stolen"

" So, you must still pay for them"

Has anyone else had any experiences like this?

    Selling a Car

The procedure for selling a used car in Thailand is similar to the one for buying one and is completed at the local DLT office.

The seller must provide signed ownership documents - the Blue Book, a passport, visa and work permit or a Certificate or Letter of Residence issued by Thai Immigration or their Embassy. If the previous owner is Thai they have to provide an ID card and House Registration Documents.

If the car is over seven years old it must have passed a roadworthiness test. If the car has an up-to-date tax sticker this will prove that the roadworthiness test has been carried out.

Normally the buyer and seller complete the transfer of ownership paperwork together at the local DLT office, but it is possible to give power of attorney to a third party.

How did she get around the Blue Book not being provided?

Are you able to check whether ownership has officially been transferred?

Sounds like the boss is in on the scam.

If you are able to locate the vehicles are you able to take forcefull return of same??

Must be a higher authority in Police that you can take up with.

Hope it works out OK for you.

  13. Hi all,

I'm trying to work on my skills translating English->Thai and am wondering whether anyone has a good source of foreign news articles translated into Thai? I'm thinking of Reuters, AP, or something similar. I'd like to do my translation of each article and then take a look at how someone else (a Thai native speaker) handled the same English source.

For clarity, I'm overseas and therefore only have sporadic access to Thai newspapers, magazines, etc. I'm really hoping for web-based sources.

    Thanks in advance!

Google Translate can be used to either translate text or the whole WEB pages into English from a number of languages. You can either copy and paste text or open a site in the translated language.

    Other functions include:

    A Dictionary.

Tools to add an instant translate button for your browser (thus enabling you to translate a page into English with a click of a button).

    Site address is:

    http://translate.google.com/?hl=en

Tried it on Thai news WEB site and it translated it to English, it may miss on some of the syntax but it certainly enables a page to be readable for a foreign language.

  14. And now what. If worst comes to worst, he will flee to Uganda or Burundi and be able to live quite comfortably in the presidential palace there with his billions.

Guess if he ends up in one of these places, he will not be able to get his daily feed of sicky rice. 55555

  15. I hear many good comments about the Karon Cafe, never been there by myself.

Have stayed at Karon Cafe twice and the Roast Beef meal is excellent. They also have great steaks as well.
