  1. i hated cambodia, especially cambodian men. they have this smile that i have never seen before. its not the same as thais or other areas.

it probably has to do much with my interpretation, but the smile coupled with the constant touting really put me off. im also certain there was an erotic undertone in many cases.

so much so that i decided based on this reason that it was not a satisfactory long term living option. immigration asking for a bribe at phenom pehn airport when departing was also a nail in the coffin.

even vietnam where the touting can be worse and the attitude less accomadating was preferable. laos was also great, liked the people there.

You must understand that the Thai Smile is the first step in separating you from your dosh

  2. To know the difference between busy and quiet you hyave to be here for 15 year or more. During that time Soi 8 had at least 3 times the amount of bars it has today, and it was a struggle to pass through on a moped.

Today you drive through it with a tourist bus at high speed and you don't have to worry about hitting any pedestrians.

Spoken like a true Soi Yodsak regular. ( Soi 6 )

  3. Theft of track parts causes train derailment in South

BANGKOK: -- Songkhla local investigation authorities have blamed theft of track parts as the cause of the derailment of the Sungai-Kolok-Nakhon Si Thammarat train on September 18.

The derailment injured eleven passengers and suspended southern rail services to Narathiwat from Bangkok, and vice versa for almost a week.

Chana district office chief Thawiwut Sangsiri ruled out sabotage by southern insurgents but blamed theft of track parts as the main reason.

He said local authorities have concluded that the removal of the 30 screws and 18 metal bars used to join rails caused the derailment

  5. aiming to eradicate all prostitution.

special patrols began arresting 20-30 bag-snatchers and thieves a night.

aiming to totally eradicate street prostitution

sent out inspection teams to measure the deckchair plots

cooking on the beach, which is prohibited.

Sorry guys but this menial crap just won't cut it ! Why? because you have both served up this exact same nonsense previously on so many occasions.

BUT NEVER EVER WITH MILITARY ENFORCMENT.

  6. I've travelled a lot throughout Thailand on tours, visa runs etc and haven't seen many rail tracks. Those that I've seen rarely have any trains on them. For instance, there's a station near to Pattaya, but from what I understand there are only 2 trains per day running this line!!! For a country with ASEAN aspirations all I can see is that the pathetic Thai railway network has suffered badly from under-investment in the hands of previous governments. Yes, it's quaint, but outdated. If Thailand wants a fully integrated 21st century transport system big money will have to be spent very soon. Hopefully, some of the tourist attractions such as Hua Hin station can be preserved for posterity in this process.

(You are correct in saying that two trains a day use this line, well two[passenger trains to be correct and only Monday to Friday. now talk about freight goods and oil tankers regular and daily).

  7. Curious OP (Jaidee),,

do you know if it's possible to travel from PrachinBuri to Hua Hin by rail without needing to get off anywhere along the way? I have a friend that lives in Hua Hin and miss playing golf with him. I never tried taking the mini-vans or buses as you always need to change at least once along the way and I don't enjoy dragging my golf bag and travel bag through crowded areas. The station here is small and easily navigated as is the station in Hua Hin. Had never thought of this mode of transportation until reading your posts. smile.png

edit to add: I'll follow this post in case you don't have time to pm me

[ The answer to your question is no.

trains depart PRACHIN BURI 5 times daily to BANGKOKS HUALAMPHONG where you will change, then you will have a choice of twelve trains down to HUA HIN. don't worry about changing trains BKK HUALAPHONG is a breeze all one level . and everywhere is accessible. the station is quite small all platforms are walk in walk of to an arrival/departure hall. this website will give all your info

    www.railway.co.th/checktime/checktime.asp?lenguage=ENG

and to give you a little more info don't forget www.themaninseat61

    (enjoy your trip.)

  8. There was a hydrofoil service some years back, they purchased two crafts from a company on the black sea, one was pattaya to hua hin and the other was pattaya to Bangkok, it was different idea that did not take of in a big way. I travelled on both services, but only passengers no cargo.

  9. That depends what you plan to do. If you like to be mobile you should purchase an air card or similar with a SIM card and a data plan.

For wifi access in hotels this all depends. Some hotels offer free wifi throughout the building, others only in the lobby or other communal areas. Some hotels do not offer free wifi and you need to purchase a package.

Sent from my iPad using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

Thank for advice TobiasML . I am adviced that Wi-Fi is offerd free throughout the Tai-Pan Hotel. thanks again.
