My advice is to get your marriage visa . It’s s pain the first time but it’s a lot easier, all you have to do when you get one is go to Chiang Mai immigration every 90 days

I wondered how you got your visa , with intention to marry, I was told you can only get them outside Thailand , and in the UK you can’t get them any more , as I asked the Thai consulate in Cardiff

who should only give me a 90 visa , to get my marriage visa

I've been married 5 years and we all go to the UK every year for summer holiday, I just get a new Non-Imm "O" visa from London based on marriage/kid.

Even though I can get and qualify for a marriage visa, I quite like a day or two trip to Mae Sae, combined with the fact I take a holiday in the region (outside of Thailand) once a year, and a trip to the UK, it's not an inconvenience and fits in with my lifestyle.

They won’t give you 30 days because that’s only for tourism, but they should give you 60 days, to visit your wife, as long as you pay the overstay fine.

Your wife will need to go with you. You'll need the original and copy of your marriage certificate, copies of your wife’s ID and Tabian Baan. I don’t know what proof of address they require at that office, but they may want a TM.30 completed by the owner/house-master/possessor of the property where you live.

    Thanks for the advice.

All 100% correct, I got my 60 days and there WAS an issue with proof of address.

Our landlord has never notified immigration (in years) or given us her ID or a completed TM.30. This was causing quite a problem and could have halted the whole process. I had to fill it out AND pay the 1500 baht fine for not being registered at our rental property. Eventually, we got proof of residence after a LOT of hassle and Immigration phoning the Landlord in the USA and giving her a lecture over the phone!

The 6 day overstay was a just a formality and only a very small indication/stamp of it in my passport.

Total cost 1500bht fine for residency cert (which owner is paying me), 3000bht for overstay and 1900bht for extension.

One question I do have, is that in my passport where they have given me the 60 days extension, under that, it reads "Please contact Immigration Office for a RE-ENTRY PERMIT before leaving Thailand"?

Surely, when I leave for China next week, for a week, my original Non Imm 'O' Visa kicks in when I come back? ie. 90 days again and therefore makes the above comment irrelevant?

  3. Hi all,

    After some concrete advise.

I have been on a Non Imm Multi Entry 'O' Visa based on marriage for the last 5 years or so.

I normally do my visa run to Mae Sai and get my 90 day stamp every 3 months.

However, for the first time ever, I have just looked at my passport and my visa ran out on 21st March, god knows how I missed it and never have done before!

We fly to Krabi tomorrow afternoon and want to get this sorted out.

I am leaving for China on 10th April for a weeks holiday. So will be leaving the country at that time.

I am panicking a bit as all hotels and flights are booked for both holidays!

Can I go to CM Immigration at Promenada tomorrow and pay the overstay fine and get a 30 day extension?

Any urgent advice would really be appreciated.

    Know anyone that speaks Thai?

Proper cost of replacement not worth it as you could buy a second hand one for same/less.

Up to you - but if you decide to try the 'cheaper' option - first decide how much you are willing to spend.

Ask Thai friend to take it to one of those 'phone stalls' in one of the main Malls.

Get them to ask how much and how long, and if OK then give it a try.

It takes a while I am told, so expect to pay about 2,000 baht - and be prepared that the phone may not work - dont pay if it doesnt work of course.   If you take the phone to them they will double (at least) the price.

PS - reset the language settings to Thai and delete all your data/memory beforehand (if you can).

You will not get it for 2000bht! My wife tried to fix her S6. The S6 is quite tricky as the screen sandwiched.

They are not interested in fixing for less than 5-6k

  5. Because it is tricky to do, you won't find anyone doing it for less than 4000-5000 baht, they know the screens cost nothing on Ebay but fixing them is not easy! It is all to easy for them to wreck the phone in the process of replacing the screen and they don't want to be held responsible for wrecking an expensive phone, hence the reluctance to fix them! Go to Samsung!

My BS detector is dinging. Anyway whatever good luck to him.

From his Facebook page all seems 100% genuine....respect to the bloke!

An ambulance in a developed country is equipped to the max. The paramedics are very well trained.

A Thai ambulance typically has nothing but a stretcher although recently defibrillators have become the toy du jour which the ambulance staff love to use even when completely unnecessary. Effectively it is a taxi to the hospital.

Some comparable statistics, independently verified, would be enlightening.

Absolutely! I have been scraped up once, having come off my bike. Having been knocked unconscious (from hitting unmarked roadworks) until the ambulance and co arrived.....they just proceeded to attend to my "road rash" which didn't inspire me with confidence, bearing in mind I had been unconscious for 10 mins or so, I would have thought the priority would be to check "vital signs", not move me, don't take my helmet off etc etc.

If you have an accident here, the ambulance really is a taxi service to hospital, don't expect much more than that. I guess that's why the figure is 20%!

Not criticising, just the way it is, I accept that risk living here and accept that I am responsible for my own well being should something happen.

  8. Not forgetting Sausage King....250bht.....UNLIMITED buffet Sunday Lunch.....Roast Ham, Roast Chicken, Pork...."pigs in blankets", yorkshire pud, cauliflower cheese, roast potatoes, veggies, gravy.....can't knock it for 250bht!

  9. Suitcase?! You can't get anything in those, you don't have to use a suitcase....I bring back 2 large boxes full of everything I need! Ok, you need to upgrade to World Traveller Plus to get 2 boxes (for example on BA).....this gives me 2 large boxes up to 23kgs each (size almost irrelevant)....bring back everything....mountain bikes, coffee machines, toys, cheeses, toasters, kids bikes, 150 piece socket sets, 1kg Flora, Digestives, Dyson Vacuum, Mayo/Tartare Sauce, Monster Munch, Push Chairs (a freebie on top of allowance) , Prams, Car Seats (a freebie on top of allowance)....in the past, when the whole family goes to UK = 5 boxes = 23kgs a box = almost 100kgs of stuff! Even I struggled to get near the 100kgs but did quite well, got to around 80kgs!

  10. "mainly because, according to popular folklore that was certainly doing the rounds 8 years ago when I moved out here, it was always the farang who was judged responsible for any prang with a local, even where the facts clearly indicated otherwise."

    Urban Myth!

  11. Best way to Pai is on a motorbike (done it on a PCX), go to Samoeng, hang a right, follow part of the old "elephant trail" to Pai, great scenery! Wouldn't recommend it in the wet though with standard road tyres!

  12. This can not be down to weather. How come in the many years of plane watching in CNX it's only recently this has been happening? I can only remember the odd occasion planes landing from the north. The weather and winds haven't changed. First time I have ever landed from the north was yesterday Thai A330.
