  1. Maybe I have mis-interpreted this , but it reads to me as if the gov't are looking to have a day designated no drinking day (much like no smoking and the like elsewhere in the world) where they will promote the benefits of abstinence and look to people to at least refrain from alcohol out of their own conscience for 24 hours. National No Smoking Day is not a criminal offence so why would alcohol consumption be deemed so on this particular day. Just a thought but maybe a genuine translation of the original Thai press release might help the anti-Thai Authority bashing brigade so prevalent on TV calm their nerves

  2. In the Chaweng area are in fact night time entertainment Zoning laws. Only bars & clubs can stay open late if they are in a late night Zone.

The Green Mango area is not in this zone!

If this law is ever enforced all bars & clubs in the mango area will have to close at 1am(ish).

This is the reason why these rumours have been flying around for years.

    NEITHER IS SOI REGGAE

  3. thanks checked that out,i see i would get to surat airport at 15.15,but my flight is at 16.05,does that give me enough time?anyone done this trip as is very cheap 4200b for 2 people, flights and boat.

If you are not making an international connection & just visiting Bangkok , check out the Nok Air website (they fly to Don Muang from Surat)

All-in price 2,300 b per pax , the deal includes the boat , transfer , etc and as you check-in at Nathon Pier the flight WILL wait for the bus as the airline issue the thru-ticket from Nathon rather than just issuing a seperate boat & plane ticket..

  4. Before you get too excited , I am assuming the games you are referring to are the 2 shown on Sunday by the ASTRO Malaysia sat. system. This was a one-off. The games are covered by GOAL TV which are shown on ASTRO along with the English Championship & the Scottish Premier League. Once the Italian and Spanish season gets underway the will take preference on the live scheduling & the Dutch games will follow the Scot & English games by being shown within 2 days (if you are lucky) and probably in the morning or early afternoon .

  5. I cant see any mention of the English Premier League....can anyone confirm?

On the Malaysian ASTRO sat. system the English Premier League is shown on ESPN & Star Sports for the earlier kick-off game on Saturday/Sunday and the regular 3pm UK time games. If there is a late game on Saturday night this is usually shown on the AstroSport-3 channel.

  6. I am flying into Phuket for the first time in ages next week and need a transfer to Patong Beach. If the stories going around are anywhere near true then the taxi boys in Phuket are as bigger thieves as those in Samui. Roughly what would I expect to pay for a taxi from the airport to Patong ? Is there an official rank at the airport or is it just hawkers ? Are there any "taxi meters" that actually put their meter on is it all down whatever they want to charge.

Any help would be much appreciated

  7. I'm sure there will be a couple of Bars open in Bangrak, and Fishermans village NEVER closes for elections.

What about the 2 day closure for Buddhist Lent on July 15th and 16th - we OK for a beer in FV / Bangrak then as well ?

Hope there aren't any working ex-pats whose one remaining pleasure in life is a Saturday night out on the razz and a lie-in on Sunday nursing the hangover from hell.

3 out 4 Saturdays on the spin with the bars closed , bring on the Lao-Khao !

  8. Can anyone confirm if there is a self-drive car hire office at the Donsak ferry port.

Cant be asked to get caught up in the queues to take the car over from Samui. Would prefer to go over as a foot passenger and hire at the terminal. Only over for a couple of days but need transport to get aoround Surat / NST

    Thanks

  9. I am in a similar position with the house pump on its "last legs" . I went to HomePro a few days back and although the staff recommended a replacement unit they couldn't help with a technician/tradesman to install and I lost interest , particularly with the municiple water being better now , but it will need replacing before long.

Out of interest , how much did the package cost ? (pump & installation if charged seperately). Did the technician actually work for HomePro or did thet recommend a tradesman for you ?

    Any info much appreciated.

  10. But if connecting to International, remember its to Don Muang!!!

Assuming Lomprayah will sell you a catamaran ticket from Nathon with the the NST airport transfer but without the Nok Air flight , Airasia has a flight that leaves 15 minutes after the NokAir flight into the International airport.. Once the Nok Air promotion runs out this may well be a more cost effective option anyway
