  1. Okay, I'm pretty up to date on what I need to submit to get my girl a visa for a few weeks for a wedding I'm attending in Australia, but I'm not sure how the letter of invitation and the statutory declaration work since I'm American. I know I need her bank book and copies, a letter from her employer (which is my company), my bank book, and pictures. Do I get my friends in Australia to write a letter for her? Or do I do it myself?

I have been living in Thailand for almost 7 years and am the director of my company. I don't think it will be a problem to get her a visa but I just want to make sure I don't mess it up since the trip is in October and I know it can take a month or two to get these things done. Any help is greatly appreciated!

  2. I obtained a multiple entry non-B in New York in August, and then in December got a new work permit with a new company I set up. I was under the impression that with the work permit, some paperwork could be filed and I wouldn't need to leave the country every 90 days, only check in at immigration. I have just recevied a bill for a new visa (though mine isn't up until August), and it is the big square stamp re-entry one, with "USED" stamped on it, along with an extension of stay stamp. Am I good for another year now, and why would I have needed to get a new stamp? I'm a little confused with this.

Also, I wanted to gain residency after 3 years of paying taxes etc. Is there a minimum salary you have to be on in order to make this happen, and what do I need to make sure is happening now in order to do this in 3 years?

  3. Okay, I've got a Thai company and a work permit, and I pay my taxes and the social security on everyone every month. I have heard of a friend who claims to have Thai residency, and I'm wondering how long this process takes and what needs to be done in order to attain it. Bear in mind I'm not confusing this with citizenship, which I know is a much more complicated and long process. Thanks

  4. Okay, I found a motorbike that I'd like to purchase, but there's no serial/VIN number on the gas tank or in the front. I'm told that this isn't a problem until the bike is a few years older, and then they'll come out and check the registration to the numbers on the bike to make sure it's the correct one when I go to renew. If there are no numbers, it's quite the process, isn't it? How hard is it to get paperwork for a bike with no numbers on it? It's the perfect bike except for this, but I don't want to get screwed over when it comes time to re-register.

  5. The form of one-way system these drivers are asking for actually makes the most sense.

Agreed.. it may not be brought about by a good system of governance.. But it is the most logical and probably ideal system.

But is it only the cynic in me thats thinks that the timing of this, immediately after agreeing to a 200b price ceiling in Patong, to then instantly want the fastest / shortest / most direct route.. Seems more than co-incidental.

Perhaps you all should do a little background research before you start slamming what's going on down here. How many of you actually live in Patong? I'm not defending the drivers, but this new system the city has implemented is horrible. I've noticed that traffic is ridiculous at all times of the day now because of making the streets one way, and it's not because of booming tourist numbers. I want a short route to where I'm going as well...don't we all? While I don't agree with the 200 baht minimum charge (which is negotiable if you don't start complaining about it right away) for a tuk tuk, how many of you know how much more expensive Patong is compared to Pattaya/Bangkok/Chiang Mai/etc? Rent is more for bars, rooms, shops, and houses. Food is more expensive. Gas is more expensive, If you don't like tuk tuks, then take a motorbike taxi for 40 baht.

  6. I have an ED visa at the moment and it expires on February 7. I am aware that as of the 7th I have to go to Immigration and check in to get a three month stamp every 3 months. However, I wanted to go home for about a month in April, but my new stamp would be due on May 6-7. Am I correct in thinking that my visa will be cancelled if I am late in checking in? Is there any way to get around this problem so that I can go home? I was planning on returning around May 11. Perhaps I can check in early? Or get something from Immigration allowing me to check in a few days/a week late? Any help and/or advice is much appreciated, as I don't want to lose my visa. Thanks.

  7. I've got to plan a trip to do my ED visa, and I'm wondering why Penang is such a popular choice for people living in Phuket. It seems that Air Asia doesn't fly there anymore, and that Firefly costs almost 7K just for the flight. Is it hard to get an ED in KL? Anyone have any suggestions or good ideas on where to purchase tickets/packages. I'm trying to avoid the 14 hour bus ride. Thanks.

  8. I have a few questions about the education visa.

    1. Is it hard to get a multiple entry visa? How much does that cost compared to the single entry?

    2. If I get only a single entry and wish to leave the country, how much does the stamp I need cost?

    3. Knowing that I have to check in with immigration every 90 days, do I have to pay money each time? Paperwork is needed from the school in order to check in, correct?

    4. What is the best way to maximize the time on the visa? I've heard something about 14 months...

    5. If I reenter Thailand right before the visa expires, I will get an additional 90 days, correct?

  9. What's needed for a first time Thai license? I no longer have an immigrant visa at the moment, just a tourist visa, but the police told me I need to have a Thai license because the motorbike is in my name. Do I need an immigrant visa for this, or is there a way around it? What other documents are needed? I live in Phuket...

  10. Okay, I have a three month single entry Non-B visa. The first question is, am I able to extend it for any amount of time at an immigration office, and if so, how much will it cost? The second inquiry is to do with the closure of the immigration offices/embassies. My visa expires on the 10th, and I was going to go to KL to renew, but I want to know if they will be closed, and if so for how many days. Does anybody have this info?

  11. Okay, at the moment I've got a Single Entry Non-B visa issued from the United States. I've been reading other topics, and I read that if I take the WP3 receipt and my passport with the visa to the Immigration office, I can obtain a work permit. From there, I can go to KL and get my visa extended for one more year. Is this correct, or am I missing something? I need to get my visa situation sorted out, as I live here and am only 26 years old, so I am ineligible for a Non-O. If anyone has advice on how to get a one year visa that isn't going to cost me 20-30K in lawyer fees or attending courses and the such, that will allow me to leave the country periodically, please let me know. However, at the moment I am more interested in getting an extension on the visa I currently have. Any advice would be greatly apprectiated.

  12. I'm looking for a solution to my visa problems (I'm 25, live in Thailand, and have a bar), and I keep reading about a Non-O, but based on visiting friends. I can't find anyplace that says they allow visiting friends as a reason for a one year multiple entry. Where is the best place to do this, and how do I go about making sure that I don't get screwed over when I go to make the visa?

  13. If, as you say, you have all the paperwork from the Ministry of Labour and a non-immigrant "B" visa, then you can get a work permit upon arrival in Thailand. Before your 90 day permission to stay stamp has expired you would then apply for a 1 year extension of stay based on employment and re-entry permit from immigration. There is no need for a multi-entry visa if working for an established company.

As "InterestedObserver" stated you can use the single to apply for the 1 year extension. When I first got my Non B in Bangkok 3 years ago it was only valid for 3 months, and before the 3 months expired I was told by the IO to go to my provincial Immigration office and they would grant me the 1 year extension. I did exactly that and have been granted a 1 year extension based on the original non B visa ever since, so you should not have a problem.

So did you get a work permit, or did you just show up with the original paperwork from the Ministry of Labour. All they've sent back is the letter from the hotel and the 5" X 7" piece of paper from the MOL...

  14. They kept all the paperwork...I had the approval letter from the Ministry of Labour and all the company info. Isn't the work permit paperwork a bit different? I got a multiple entry before when all I had was a letter from Chiang Mai University saying they wanted to hire me once I had completed a TEFL course...

  15. Okay, I sent my passport in to the embassy in Washington, D.C. get a multiple entry non b visa along with all the proper paperwork from the Ministry of Labour, the company wanting to hire me, etc. and I just received my passport back with a SINGLE entry visa. When I did this with paperwork from a university last time, there was no problem. They sent me back some money and no explanation this time. Anybody have any idea what the problem is or if it's possible to still get the multiple entry?
