  1. Okay. I'm confused. Again.

CAT has a deal with True subsidiaries that basically sweeps all of Hutch's assets in Bangkok into True. Details have been contested in court, but it looks like the transfer's going ahead. Fair enough.

The story says, to a first approximation, "True has gradually switched about 800,000 subscribers of the Hutch CDMA service to its 3G service."

They must mean "True is going to gradually switch about 800,000 Hutch CDMA customers to True 3G."

I have no idea how the "My brand" enters into the picture. It also isn't clear if this is at 850 MHz, 900 MHz, or 2.1 GHz - all of which are spectra claimed by CAT, in different geographical locations. And that's a key question.

If my interpretation is correct, this is saying that 1,000 CAT employees are currently testing the True 3G system in BKK. True is going to start migrating Hutch CDMA/EV-DO customers over to True 3G, and hope to get 400,000 subscribers switched in two years (starting with the heaviest users). Ultimately, True will migrate all 800,000 existing Hutch customers.

If all of that is correct, it has big implications for people in Phuket. Specifically, it means that CAT is more-or-less confirming that it won't be pushing its CDMA/EV-DO "Air Card" services any more. Moreover, it implies that existing CAT CDMA customers will be switched to True 3G - at True's expense. Good news, if it works out that way.

Does anybody know the real story?

  2. Thanks guys. I am usually pretty good with Google, but was coming up with just lists that said (visa on arrival OR visa exempt) that didn't specify which is which. After making this post I hit a few friends on messenger and someone linked me to a very detailed list which specifies, I guess i just wasn't searching correct. Thanks again for responses.

.............................................. And now you are not taking the effort to share the information???
  3. He will need to exit country, pay maximum overstay fine of 20,000 baht. They may ask him if he has been working. He can re-enter Thailand immediately after he passes through bordering country immigration. Safest way to do it is to pay fine at the airport, take a flight out of the country, and then return, as he is subject to arrest if he should get stopped before he leaves Thailand and is asked for his passport.

While we all need to obey the laws here, overstay is a common violation, and the comments above are rather inappropriate. I know people who have cured as much as 12 year overstays. As long as you stay out of trouble, the odds of an arrest are low.

Very well put, it's the facts.

  4. I bought a Samsung at Fortune Tower Computer Center, it's great, I got the model KAO1TH, full size keyboard was the most important item to me. It travels very well. White color, glossy screen which I like for the brightness. Best work tool for the money I have ever purchased. Fortune Tower offers a much more civil atmosphere compared to Pantip, I love it our there. Very easy to get to via the MRT subway, great place with many specialty shops and then a whole host of variety shops plus adjacent to Tesco. Hop on the MRT walk straight into the place at Rama 9 Station, piece of cake. Samsung has a wide variety of netbooks and a on site service center. Purchased mine from the IT Banana shop which is the COM 7 INTERNATIONAL CO., pleased with their pricing, staff and inventory. Just got a 22" LG monitor there last week.

  5. Am I correct to think that a retirement visa with a multi-entry feature does have the 90 day leave the country ability rather than doing 90 day reporting? I have friends that have multi-entry retirement visas who have assured me that is correct, an exit/entry permit is not needed and any trip out and back in the country starts a new 90 day period.

  6. An extended overstay can be cleared with 20k at the Cambodian border, you can then come back into Thailand on a 15 day tourist visa. Use a service like Jack Golf International, over and back in one day, the cheapest way and a for sure professional service to walk you through.

I have no connection with Jack Golf but know their service is professional, they will advise you the best way.

  7. Will need to take a van to move a Thai friend from BKK to Sakon Nakorn, just light load but van is best have a few people too.

Any advise on a economical van service? Maybe a van coming from Sakon Nakorn we could use it on the return trip.

Any advice would be welcome, trip will happen very soon.

    Thanks

  8. I am for the moment thinking of going to Sakon Nakorn via van for the first time to delivery my maid's sister to their home. She needs to go home for awhile, might want to take a few things along. Would be good to have a van and driver for a period of 4 days to take the round trip.

Would appreciate pointers to find the best value to achieve this trip. May want to go this weekend, I live in Bangkok. Looking now for information for immediate plans.

    Thank you all.....cheers

  9. I don't think there are any hidden charges with Air Asia....read the details, and now they are quoting the price all inclusive of fuel surcharges & tax. There are charges for baggage, seat selection, food, etc, but not hidden. Their booking system works well and you can pay for the ticket a 7/11, it comes to you via email.
