  1. I did find a Bar in Putthai song but quite frankly, wish I hadn't bothered!

I don't think any Manager could get a tune out of this team.

Too many players that are simply not good enough!

  2. Firstly, Hi to all the fellow Spurs fans on here.

I am a life long fan and want to watch the game tonight v Norwich. I am about 60 km outside Buriram. Here for a few more days near a place called Puttaisong. Does anyone know of any Pubs/Bars where I can watch the game? I would probably travel to Buriram and make a night of it if it is definitely on there somewhere.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

  3. Oops, let's try and finish what i meant to say.

I am near Putthaisong for about a week or so. Want to watch the Norwich v Spurs game in particular on Sunday evening (ko 11pm).

I might be prepared to drive to Buriram to watch the game if its on at any bars or Pubs there.

Of course , somewhere nearer to Putthaisong would be better.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

  4. I know this matter has been raised before and my question has as well but i don't know or remember the answer...........

Can i book a flight while i am in the uk for my girlfriend to fly from BKK-LDN ?

Obviously the booking/purchasing of the ticket (uk) is not the same place as the origin/starting point of the journey(Thailand).

  5. Where?

    For Bangkok, a suggestion

I tried that already, hence why i asked the question.

Theres always one obnoxious and condescending know it all.Unfortunately with this place ,there is quite a few like that, the reason i rarely post.

The search results did not bring me the two or three sites i used to use. As i said in the OP, i cannot remember the names of these sites.

Mods can you close this topic? No need for it with some of the posters you have here, pointless.

  6. Hi, need a Condo or apartment to rent for 1 month next month.

I do know of a few places that i can stay but i wanted to look on some websites as well. I remember i used to look on two or three sites. The name of these escapes me.

    Can anyone post a few?

Any info would be appreciated, Mods, feel free to move this if needs be

    Thanks in advance........

  7. Extending my stay in Chiang Mai for an extra day/night so i will be here saturday night and i would like to know of any decent bars/pubs that is able to show more than one premier league game.

Therefore, a bar that has multiple screens.I don't really want to be walking around trying to find a pub that is showing the game i want to see.

    Any suggestions ?

  8. No need to book accommodation. Just go to a road called Loi Kroh Road in the centre of the city. There are many, many female "tour guides" who will let you stay at their place for very reasonable rates. You can't miss them. They stand out the front of their "shops" and are so friendly that they will generously invite you to have a drink with them.

Been there , done that in the nineties when i was living ,working (and playing) in Bangers.

Ideally i would like the company of a nice (good) girl which i will have and then some time to wander and explore around the centre and night bazaar area by myself and see where it takes me.

Dave2 : I did mean the Suriwongse Hotel. Well thats what it was called on Agoda. Flash sale and rooms inc breakfast for about 1100 Baht + tax. Not bad for a 4*

The hotel by the riverside that looked interesting was the 'Scorpion tailed Boat village'. Anybody know about this place?

It looks likely i will be staying in Doi Suthep now although i am delaying a bit before booking.

Anyway, thanks for all the good advice, i will let you know what i think of Chiang Mai in a few weeks :)

  9. It really depends what kind of person you are and what your plans are. Near Doi Suthep would be best, but for only a few days I'd stay in the city.

What do i want to do? see the mountains, have a look at the night Bazaar, walk around the old city and riverside (if poss),maybe have a beer or two.

I do have a friend who wants to take me around. She has a car and recommended the hotel in Doi Suthep as she has a friend working there and can get a big discount.

Might feel a bit isolated there though, going by the feedback i have been getting on here.

Oh,anyone know what the Suriwongse Hotel is like? Thats the hotel i have seen at a good rate near the night Bazaar.

  10. Hi, i will be in Chiang Mai in a couple of weeks. Just for a few days.

Having never been to CM before i would like some advice on where to stay, mainly, what area.

I have a friend that has organised a hotel at a big discount in Doi Suthep if i require , 4.5* hotel but only two reviews on Agoda so not much to go on except that location had bad reviews (far from the centre?)

Second option is a 4* hotel with a good promotion right now in the night bazaar area(central i guess).

Third option is a 3* hotel down by the riverside with excellent reviews.

Any useful info or opinions would be appreciated.

  11. I have beed tracking TG's flights and prices for a while now. Took myself and the kids for a holiday to Thailand in August/September for a very decent price, considering it was the school holidays in the uk.

I was looking to get back over towards the end of November and the London-Bangkok price has remained low and constant for quite a while now with lot's of availability.

Recently, TG have been offering a free domestic flight(return)to any of their domestic destinations when booking a LON-BKK flight before early December. This was before the floods IIRC.

Anyway, i was looking to travel on a wednesday and upon checking yesterday, the evening LON-BKK flight for wednesday had disappeared as had the return afternoon flight (1.30) BKK-LON.

The Tuesday and Thursday evening flight had disappeared too, as had the afternoon flight back to London.

Speaking to a friend working in the travel industry he said that an airline can cancel a flight and re-schedule passengers who had already purchased a ticket. It's all in the terms and conditions.

He also noticed that Thai had cancelled one of their two daily flights the following week on Tuesday, wednesday and thursday.

They must have cancelled as although on the TG website it was showing as 'sold out' on one of the days that had disappeared, i do not believe that all the flights on every tuesday, wednesday and thursday would have sold out one or two days after showing lot's of availability.

Funnily enough, Fridays ,saturdays and sundays flights are still visible and nowhere near full and they would surely sell out their weekend flights before their midweek ones.

Seems they have kept the weekend flights(more demand)

It seems obvious that Thai have decided to pull some of their scheduled flights(midweek flights)and are just operating one flight only in midweek for now.

Just wondering if this will be temporary.

As i mentioned earlier, Thais prices have been low for months(lower than most middle east airlines with stopovers)and it seems like they cannot fill two flights daily especially in midweek.

Not sure this is only a lack of demand due to the flooding.

Maybe this is the end of two flights daily in midweek and outside of high season?

  12. Hi, as a lifelong Tottenham fan i thought i would contribute with fellow yids on here. Don't get the time to post on here much but will try and get on here, especially if we keep on winning! lol

    Very tough game today.

Fulham never seem to have all their front players fit and on form, what with Dempsey and johnson having long term injuries and Zamora and Dembele always having niggles.

As we speak they are all fit and finding form and they have won their last two games impressively.

Could be a high scoring affair. If we can get a result, even a draw to keep our unbeaten run going, we would then have five consecutive games that are very winnable leading up to the Chelsea home game just before christmas.

Fancy a 3-2 or even a 4-3 either way today.Lets hope we can come out on top, COYS!

  13. I will be coming to krabi/Phuket with my children and my gf and her son for 5-6 days.

We will fly down from Bkk. I am thinking of flying into Krabi and flying back to BKK from Phuket or vice versa.

What i need is some advice on the best way to have a few days in Krabi(maybe Ao Nang as we would like to go to Railey Beach) and a trip to Maya Bay and then a couple of days in Phuket (i'm thinking of Kata Beach). I haven't been to Phuket since the 90's.

I have read on the forum i can get a long tail boat to Railey from Ao Nang for a day trip,so that part of the trip is fine.

What i need to know is can we get from Krabi to Phuket by boat/ferry and stop off at Maya Bay on the way? If not, would it be better to do Maya Bay from Phuket or Krabi? Otherwise i guess we would have to rent a car and drive from Krabi to Phuket.

Basically just need to get some sort of plan/timetable together.Hotel recommendations would also be nice but it's more about making a plan to fit all the above places into.

    Any ideas ??

  14. I normally just read thai visa but felt I will respond to this. You say there should be a law to stop farangs living with a girl more than 30 years age difference. Why should it be? I know of one young thai lady (early 30's) very attractive and has a heart of gold. Her family are the same. She has been married three(3) times to much older men 40 to 50+ years. still married to the 3rd who is in his 80's and very frail. (others passed away) She gets great support from her family and her brother has even decided to live with them to help her. She tells me that Budha will reward her in a later life for helping older farang men who are alone and have no one to love them. She says she has loved and still loves them all with all her heart. Yes there re some sincre loving thai people who will support and look after the elderly farangs.

:cheesy::cheesy::cheesy: Stop it, please! your killing me (excuse the pun)

    Ah, that old chestnut...........

    .............and another one

  15. 1 word.. Compete !!

[[ Even in the non Free market, one with work permits, taxes, restrictions and a FAR higher cost of operating.. Visitors are still using non Thais ?? The concerned Thais should try to analyze why that is.. Take a long look in the mirror and wonder why a Russian can operate at a lower cost for a better service than a Thai is able to, given the huge disadvantage that the non Thai faces in every aspect of business.

Instead the Thai solution is not t think, improve or compete its cartels, blocking competition, lowering quality of service, keeping monopolistic pricing.

As they do this Thailand starts to overtake Euro destinations in costs and prices, for far inferior services, then they wonder why Tourists are spending less freely. Big picture world view is absent from the thinking. ]]

How correct you are Livin - a "Take A Look In The Mirror" approach would open some eyes – but only a few - it will not change the root of the problem. The governmental bodies which are supposed to protect the Thaïs are misaligned and corrupt allowing for the Russians to manipulate them. It’s obvious that this woman is trying to do her duty and is up against pay-offs for easing that control and allowing Russians to operate Tour business. Let alone the obvious that the Russians that are operating prohibited business' on tourist visa's should have their visa's revoked and sent back to the Mother Land.

The methodology for all Thaïs businesses is infectious - an example of them doubling prices to compensate for half the number of tourists - and relates to a very large majority of Thais root mentality. It’s all about the baht - the hell with everyone else.

We are truly walking ATM's to them and any opportunity they have to exploit something - even when they know there will be disastrous results and the whole deal will cave in - they will go through with it - as long as it means getting their pockets lined with cash today. The same goes for the Russian Mafia operating in Thailand.

Having said that - the Thaïs enjoy going to live overseas at MANY destinations whether OZ, USA or UK where they can own their business 100% - own a house 100% - have the benefits of the taxation system and its rewards such as health care and other taxation spin offs – without being burdened with corruption orientated governmental bodies such as police or customs agents and mafia extortion.

On our side of the fence in Thailand as a "Farang" - we are basically told that we can visit - spend our money - but we really want you to go home after emptying your pockets - being only allowed 90 days - 2 times a year visitation rights.

There are so many inequalities built into Thai policies - it’s amazing that we as foreigners stay here. I cannot own my own home – and the Thaïs will not relax their policies to provide a foreigner with at least a home of restricted size – so as not to loose control of their land. I am sympathetic to some of the controls they have implemented – however – enough is enough when you cannot buy your own residence.

If you import something they do not manufacture in Thailand – they will tax you with extortionist rates of over 400% by the corrupt and misaligned Customs Department.

The Thaïs need to be reminded we spend our money here and much more of one Farang’s money enters the system per year than 100’s or more of Thaïs put together.

I am waiting patiently for Cambodia or Vietnam to catch up with Thailand - build up their infrastructures to provide adequate transportation systems - then I am outta here. If I find I cannot wait - Philippines here I come. I am only here to benefit from a lower cost of living - and it seems that’s being pissed away daily by the Thaïs - so for me long range plans are necessary to counteract the Thai one sided mentality - take the money and run.

Most of what you say is true but it's all been said so many times before as i have highlighted above.

Yes,its amazing that you stay, so why do you?

You must have known you couldn't 'buy your own residence' before you came, presuming you did a little bit of research beforehand, you did didn't you?

I don't think the Thais are bothered about farang money entering the system. Isn't it only a small % of GDP? something like 5-6% of which the majority now comes from East Asian tourists as shown in another thread recently.Thats not to mention the Russians and the Arabs. Our influence /power is dwindling as Asia becomes more powerful and the Uk and Europe lurch from one crisis to another.

That lower cost of living is getting more expensive by the day. Thailand simply isn't what it was, certinly not the same as the 90's when i lived and worked there.

  16. I would agree with what 7by7 is saying. 1. Is it really worth custody of your children.. or 2.is it even worth adding a extra person which you will have to cover living costs for , if you do this you will spending money on your thai partner that could be much better spent on your children .

You have been married before to a Thai lady. I would say learn from the first time. 3. The sucess of most Thai - Farang Relationships is low.

    4. I would say lose the girl for the sake of your children.

    1. That's ultimately what i have to decide.

    2. Having extra living costs will be pretty insignificant i think as the rent and bills will be the same, in fact my gf/wife would probably save on eating costs. You know a green or red curry that you can reheat go back for again and again, very economical lol. What i think you have overlooked is the fact i would, given time, be able to go back to full time work and the wife could take care of the children.

    3. I an aware of that. Many of my friends (lifers in Thailand) used my relationship with my first wife as a perfect example of a Thai/foreign marriage that could work. Indeed they were all quite shocked that we broke up after having kids and being together for quite a long time.A few years i read that divorce rates in the western world were at about 65-70%. I wouldn't be surprised if that figure of two in three is more like 75% now. All my friends, with the exception of one have been divorced and had multiple relationships. Im sure its even higher amongst thai/foreign couples but chances of failure are high in all scenarios in the modern world.

4.Lose the girl for the sake of the children? That's precisely why i want a female figure around the place, forn the sake of the children! I think the children need a motherly figure around, unfortunately, the natural one doesnt fulfill that role very well. If she did, my decision as to whether i should give the kids back to their mother would be much easier.

I cant beleive your answer for first (1) answer. How is there anything to decide between a Thai GF and your own kids. There should be nothing at all to decide. Your kids come first no matter what no matter who. It sounds like you are just desprate to find any woman, which may affect you in the future Is this woman really that good for you ? or do you just want anyone as a mum kids?. You need to have a long hard look at your self. If you really need to think about which is most import for you between your Children and a Thai gf you need to sort your life out big time. Also it doesnt say much for your Thai GF she should be saying to your forgot about paying for a visa for her and just keep the money for your childrens future.

I have read some bad things posted on Thaivisa. But your answer to that question is the worse thing i have ever read on here. You should be ashamed .

Are you for real? Or just a complete <deleted>? No wonder all the decent posters of old dont come on here anymore. I was the same because of replies like this. I just knew one of the self righteous idiots that are around here would come out of the woodwork.

I have to choose whether it would be better for me to let the children go back to stay with their mother so enabling me to go back to work and hence being able to support them financially and provide for them and their education in the future. I can't do that right now!

That's the reason why i posted originally, to try and find a way where i could go back to work, keep the children with me and have a motherly figure around the place for them as well. Is there anything wrong with that?

Believe me, unlike most of the people i saw when i lived and worked in Thailand, i am far from desperate.I had many offers and multiple relationships before i got married. I have had chances to start a relationship here in the uk but have chose not to for different reasons. I had a preference for my current gf, who i met over a year ago. Is that ok by you?

Why would i be ashamed? i have given up my work/profession and my whole way of life to take care of my children. Most people that know me have been full of praise that i took on the challenge. Its something i had no hesitation doing, i would do anything for them.

Because i want a gf (for various reasons, as explained above) i have to be ashamed?

It would be in the interests of my thai gf to tell me to give the kids back to their mother, freeing me to go visit Thailand regularly or reopen a business. How is she being selfish advising me to keep the children at all costs? Selfless i would say. As for the visa, i would be happy to pay that for her but i haven't even discussed that yet.Why would i? I haven't even decided whether we are going to apply yet.

I asked a question about a visa, most people answered in a helpful way with good advice. You didn't. I am not interested in your opinions on who i should choose, that's not what i asked when i posted. It was about a visa application and THAT ONLY.

  17. The rules on qualification for ILR were changed and a fee introduced (and regularly increased) in, if memory serves, 2003; possibly 2004.

That might explain it. I really don't remember paying a fee for ILR. We moved back to the UK in sept 2002.Looks like we were lucky on that front and with the British Citizen test (ex wife just got her citizenship a few days/weeks before the new test came in).

Don't think i could go through all that again and theres a lot more hoops to jump through now and more expense.

  18. Thanks for the advice/answers. I guess unless i get a concrete offer of employment then it will be difficult to show that i will probably be able to get employment full time. Bit of a grey area really. I think the only way to be certain is to be in full time employment when the visa is applied for, that would mean giving custody of my kids over to their mother. Difficult decision looming for me.

The fees seem to be very expensive, especially the ILR. I have no recollection of the ILR fee when my ex wife did this, only the settlement visa apllication fee.

Also, she luckily, avoided the English language test by less than a month and just had a 'chat' with a notary.

Also, we/she only waited 1 year , im sure of that, before she got ILR. I don't think it was two years.

I actually promised myself i would never 'subject' (for want of better word) any Thai national/gf of mine to living outside of Thailand, especially the UK.I didn't want to be that cruel lol. I was actually going back on the vow i made to myself by considering bringing the new gf over. Taking that into account and the extortionate fees and amount of time involved and British Citizen test as well, i think i probably will never do this, i promised i never would again.

I think i have all the info i need now but if anyone has any further info feel free to post it here.
