  1. If you want to be Thai, you should understand the Thai soul. I would think. To speak the language, would be nice too, in this context. Both of that, you can not. How do you want there please be a Thai? We are not in Europe, where any idiot can be running up and do what he wants. There is one surefire way, to be Thai. You must be born here. And this the end of the banana. And they are right with that.

New is that people who are married to a Thai national can apply for Thai nationality without having to go for PR first. I believe for all others PR is still required.

The requirements are not less, only for people that are married to a Thai national the requirements towards Thai language are less strict. But the requirements for PR and Thai nationality are not very different.

    Thank you.

OK: This is the Thai govt. position from website thailand dot prd dot go dot th/ view_around_thailand dot php?id=4455

    Requirements for Obtaining a Permit

The following are the requirements of obtaining a permit. Note that these rules are subject to frequent change and that a current list of the requirements may be found at:

    1. Qualifcations

The foreigner must have held a non-immigrant visa and have resided in Thailand for at least three consecutive years on the same non-immigrant visa at the time of application.

The foreigner must qualify under one of the following five categories. Note that each of the five categories has different requirements regarding required documentation to be submitted and applicable application fees.

    i. Investment Category – the foreigner must bring in at least 10 million baht into Thailand to invest in a limited or public company, state-issued security, state enterprise's security or the stock market; or

ii. Employment Category – for at least one year, the foreigner must be an executive offcer and a signatory of a business registered in Thailand with a capital of at least 10 million baht. The applicant must earn at least 50,000 baht per month for two consecutive years prior to submitting the application. Also, his work must be in an area of interest to the Thailand economy.

Alternatively (still under the Employment Category), the foreigner must earn at least 80,000 baht per month for two years or flea tax return for an annual income of 100,000 baht or more for two consecutive years. He, also, must have held work a permit for at least three consecutive years and worked in the current company for at least one year; or

iii. Humanity Category – the foreigner must be the spouse, parent or child of a permanent resident or a Thai citizen; or

vi. Expert Category – the foreigner holds a Bachelor or a higher degree, and his current position requires him to work at least three consecutive years in Thailand; or

    v. Other circumstances (outside of the above) are considered on a case-by-case basis.

In which case category iii is without requirments (as long as one is married etc).

Category ii requires filed Thai tax returns of an annual income of 100,000+ which most/all govt. school teachers do get. The first part of this I read as 80,000 a month without filed tax returns in Thailand!

    Correct?

  2. One time I would think yes. Try double or triple. But than is finish. Everyone can see in your passport, that tourist is not the right status for you. I would go to KL. Not to Laos. Check the holidays before ! You need two working days to get it. And they close 11:30 a.m. So normally, it is difficult to bring the Application in, at the arrival day. So calculate better to stay there 2 nights. And they will close at every holiday they can find. From Malaysia and from Thailand and maybe from the whole Africa too..... It is on the website. Always better, cheaper and easyer is an Non Immigrant O from your home country.

  3. That is my experience too. There are other reasons, that they handeld him in this kind and to send him out. Maybe they was looking for him before and so he went to the hospital. With a serious heart problem and in needing treatment and medicine, normally you can not

stay 16 days in this circumstances than, I would say. That is not realistic. No friends looked for him ? He went to the police and not to his embassy or the immigration ? Why ???? Nobody was with him, when he went to the police station ????

Come on.... it is a fairy tale but not a horror story, like this...... [

    quote name=lockman' timestamp='1315034608' post='4670416]

OK, he was in violation of the law, but sought help, trusting that being forthright and honest would be at least rewarded with objective behavior and a financial.

Instead, he got what he got. The post that stated "lost in translation" has something there, yet one wonders what was going through the minds of the arresting officer that resulted in this decision.

Be irresponsible and under the influence and healthy: Shove a tuk tuk driver and get put into a coma by Thai citizens

Be responsible and sober and near death: Go on overstay because you are in hospital, and immediately report upon release, and go to jail.

But He didn't do that " When Kent Melmblom was discharged from the hospital, knew that his visa expired. One week after discharge, he went to the police " And go to the Police???

No you go to immigration IMMEDIATELY upon release.

Been here awhile now and immigration has been fine and very helpful to most so long as you STAY legal;, but try to cut corners, etc gets nasty fast.

  4. Of course they want the money. And of course you not asked for the commander...... They know how stupid farangs are and always scared and that they give the money very easily, because say have enogh from that.

Unless the government decides to make changes from the top all this crap will continue it is very clear that the mafia control the police and the government , no one will take a stand because the moment they do they will probably be shot.

The Hub of Corruption will continue for a long time yet.

Similar to want happen to me…stayed 2 days over visa due to been in hospital, when went to renew my visa was fined 1000 baht 2 days overstay even though had letter from doctor……..they never even looked at the letter …no exception for farang was the was reply.

  5. It is so. And when you see, how many people are at the airports, with ten days or 14 days overstay and more.... and be only charged with the 500 Baht per day.... then it seems, this only was an half story.

Easy to get extension based on hospitalization.

    From Police order 777/2551

2.25 In the case of medical treatment or convalescence or to look after a patient:

Permission will be granted for a period of not more than 90 days at a time.

    (1) Confirmation and request has been made by a physician responsible for the treatment. The Physician must describe the details of treatment and advised that the illness is a barrier for travelling.

    (2) In the case of looking after a patient, confirmation and request has been made by the physician responsible for the treatment or by an embassy or consulate.

    (3) Patient Carer, except parents, spouse, children, adopted children or children of spouse, shall be granted no more than 1 extra person.

  6. This naive gullible tragic man was a victim waiting to happen right from the very beginning when he first arrived in Thailand.

Yes, I agree and that is the real tragedy here, is that in order to stay here you need to view your fellow citizens with great suspicion, and always be vigilant. A truly awful story and one which shows the ugly side of the country, the impotence and corruption of local police and the jealousy of the few.

It only shows that stupids and people, they got there money to easily, lose it very quick. That is all. And it is right. How this world would be, if the stupids had the money ? Much more bader than now. Or ? And now it is bad enough.
