  1. Thanks for the input guys - I don't think trying to do it upon arrival is going to be an option.

Live in Thailand for 2 years so we know the score ;)

As a first port-of-call, I'll see if I can move our flight out with Qatar to the day before as this potentially going to be the cheapest option.

As a second, it'll just have to be a weekend stay in Bangkok with a flight down on the Monday or Bangkok Airways back up for the day from Samui.

  2. Hi everyone,

I've done the research so am pretty familiar with the process of getting married in Thailand:

    1. British Embassy for certificates to proove we can get married
    2. Translation of these certs into Thai
    3. Notarisation of these certs by the MFA
    4. Marriage certificate from local amphur

We arrive in Thailand on 24 July (Friday) around 1pm and I don't think this will be anywhere near enough time go get done what we need before the offices close for the weekend.

Can we do anything before arriving in Thailand to save time there?

Can we use an agent to do this on our behalf or do we need to do this ourselves (they seem to just escort you to/from the various places)?

We're getting married on Koh Samui so I'm just hoping to avoid a wasted day and a further £300 round trip to BKK once we get down there on the 25th.

  3. HI all,

My girlfriend and I used to live on Samui and are hoping to get married there next year.

I've emailed a variety of wedding planners/resorts/hotels including Faraway and Signature who both seem to be highly rated.

I've been told that going through a resort can work out cheaper as they offer better discounts but I'm just looking for tips and suggestions e.g. handling the legal side of things personally as opposed to paying 20,000 THB.

Any thoughts, tips or suggestions for wedding planning/planners?

  4. The Cagiva Stella has a 1 cylinder, 125 cc, liquid-cooled, 2 stroke motor which gives you 24bhp to play with. The bike has a clutch and gear setup and the 6 speed gearbox allows you to cruise at speed. Stopping comes from disc brakes front and rear which will pull your eyes out. I bought the bike from my friend who has returned to the UK. I cleaned it up and fixed a few parts that needed attention and have had it running nicely, but can get it running nice at low rpm or high rpm...never both. The body work is a little loose on the right hand side around the seat.

All lights and electronics work fine although the connector for the dash lights does mean the dash will flicker on/off occassionally. The low beam bulb died the other day but the high beam, indicators, horn, fuel button, kill switch all work fine.

The bike has in the past 9 months had a new speedo cable, powervalve cables, oil change, coolant change, carburettor cleaned and rebuilt, new chain, 2 stroke oil change and been degreased. The bike has its green book and ownership papers and has done about 14000 kms.

As I'm going back to the UK and the bike is in less than perfect condition, I'm only asking 5000 THB for it. You can ride it away but at the moment, it isn't running well at high rpm as the mixture is too rich. I would put in a leaner main jet and maybe play with the jet needle clip height. It would be a great bike to take apart and rebuilt to your custom spec, complete with tuning parts. It really shifts once you get it going!

You are free to test ride the bike but I will need the full 5000 THB asking price as deposit. If you break or damage anything whilst riding it, I will have the bike repaired at your expense.

I will deliver the bike to Donsak pier on the mainland for 1000 THB.

Please contact via PM or on 0843311002

  5. I am selling an 11 year old Honda Dream with 46000K on the clock. These bikes are practically bulletproof and will just keep on going and going. This one is in pretty good condition considering it's age and best of all, it's cheap!

    Good points:

The electronics all work perfectly including the high and low beam, the horn, the indicators, the electric start and the kick start.

The engine runs really nicely and pulls smoothly throughout the rev range.

The gearbox is nice and smooth, gear changes are easy and not clunky.

The tyres are in good condition and the front had a new inner tube last week.

The brakes have plenty of life left in them and were tightened-up last week.

The suspension is in good condition and doesn't leak.

    It's only 10000 THB!

    Bad points:

The keys don't stay in the ignition.

The fuel gauge always reads empty.

There are few nicks, scrapes and tears on the bike but absolutely nothing major.

The green book hasn't been updated in a year so you'll need to get the bike updated when you buy it (although the cops aren't going to break down your door).

All in all, a sweet little bike that will keep going. You aren't going to find anything this good for this sort of money. If you want to test ride it, give me a call and bring 10000 THB in cash!

  6. I am selling an 6 year old Yamaha Mio that in great shape that will make the perfect bike for anyone looking for a cheap runaround. You could even spend a bit of cash customising the bike if you wanted and have something like the young Thai guys race around the island? These bikes are really dependable and when they do go wrong from time to time (usually due to the owner) a tune-up or a new inner tube at a small bike shop is never more than 200 THB.

  7. I am selling a Yamaha Mio, now in great condition after being cleaned-up. New parts were put in and its runs nicely. You could modify the bike or just keep it as a cheap means of getting around. Mios are great little bikes to own as they rarely go wrong and when they do, a quick tweak or a new inner tube at a small bike shop is never more than 200 THB.

I've just had a new clutch and variator put in as the old one was completely ruined. The new transmission is smooth and very solid-feeling.

The tyres are in good condition and the front had a new inner tube last week.

The brakes have plenty of life left in them and I bled the front brake two weeks ago so it really stops in a hurry.

Just had new inner tubes and a new rear shock.

  8. I'm leaving the country with my dog at the end of July and need her to stay in Thailand for about a week before the freight company ship her out to Spain where I will pick her up. She can either stay on Koh Samui or come with my girlfriend and me up to Bangkok and hang out there for a while.

I'd be much happier leaving her in or around Bangkok if there were good kennels for her to stay at. Can anyone recommend anything? It would be convenient if they were near Suvarnabhunmi but it isn't a huge problem if they are further afield.

  9. Hi folks,

I'm leaving Thailand at the end of July with my dog and want to get her up to Bangkok. I'd need a one-way car hire setup from one of the big rental companies at the aiport but before I go down that route, I was wondering if there is any market for driving someone else's car up to Bangkok for them. While this is quite popular in the states, I'm not holding my breath for a similar setup here.

Any thoughts or suggestions about getting up to Bangkok with a dog?

    John

    *$hit I misspelled the title...

  10. Don't do cargo if you can avoid it. Some countries will put your dog into quarantine if you do it that way. Also, there's more of a chance for mistakes if you're not on the same plane, checking that the animal goes into the plane and then picking him up immediately after arrival. Go on the same flight if you can.

The ultimate destination for our dog, Jenga is Gran Canaria in the Canary Islands (part of Spain). Can anyone recommend an airline that will transport her from Bangkok to there?

  11. The Dog Rescue Center on Koh Samui is handling all my dog's necessary vaccinations and blood tests etc. I just need to evaluate the best way to get my dog back to Europe. A friend of mine is sending her dog as cargo to Venezuela (via Europe) as cargo without being on the flight and another friend used Air Berlin but flew on the same flight as her dogs.

    1. Has anyone taken a Thai dog back to Europe?
    2. Can anyone recommend an airline that will take my dog as cargo?
    3. Do I need to be on the flight with her?
