“Passenger service charges soar” Huh? Since when would an increase of 30 baht be considered “soaring”? It’s just clickbait!! Whoever writes these headlines is deliberately trying to provoke a negative reaction and raise our blood pressure! Don’t fall for it, keep smiling 😁

My US SSc is deposited directly into Bangkok Bank and I do have an ATM card for the account, why your circumstances are different is unclear.
When I retired ten years ago, Bangkok Bank was the only option for receiving SS, and it was their policy to only offer a restricted account for receiving SS funds (no ATM, no app/online transfers, must go in Bank in person to withdraw/transfer money). I was glad to hear that SS changed their rules several years ago.

I changed from Bangkok Bank to an existing SCB account 2 years ago using the form posted above. It was easy. I took the form to an SCB branch near me and had a bank official sign it, then sent the form to the Philippines SS office.
Thank you! It’s great to get confirmation from someone who has done it successfully.

Well I guess you will find out if that is true once you apply to change your bank
Or better yet go ask SCB first
But once you decide
Use this form & read near bottom about changing banks
Many thanks!

May I ask where you "learned" that?
The reason that account requires the recipient to physically come in & as you say trans to an account with windows/ATM etc is because if not & the actual recipient dies someone else could continue to drain account monthly.
So having never heard of anything changing I wondered where you hear that. I mean I imagine even if another bank was allowed it would have the same restrictions to move the deposit after physical presence proof.
I think this is why many still just deposit in the USA then trans if needed. Also because should yo be traveling etc & needed some of those funds in the Thai deposited SS account you could not reach them
A friend told me that his SS goes into his SCB account, an account that has an ATM card.

When I first set up my Social Security direct deposit 10 years ago, I had to set up an account with Bangkok Bank. This account does not provide an ATM card. The only way to access the money is to go into the bank and physically make a transfer to another account that has an ATM card, a process which is rather inconvenient.
I have recently learned that now you can have a SS direct deposit made to any bank without such restrictions. Has anyone ever switched from Bangkok Bank to another bank for their SS deposit? If so, how did you do it?

Nakohn Prathom immigration is also now requiring a 12-month bank statement to renew your visa. When asked the reason for the new requirement, the clerk responded, “We have a new boss.” ????

Thank you, I’m flying domestic.

I’m thinking of flying to Chiangmai Mai next week. Has anyone flown there recently and been told they must quarantine after arriving?

Many thanks to all for your information.

Were you working here with a WP? I have never seen or heard of a Thai bank offering mortgages to foreigners, but some of the branches make their own rules, that is for sure. Never seen a developer/builder offer financing to foreigners, either..would be a great way for them to clear inventory.
I have a work permit if that would make it easier.

I would like to buy a condo but I don’t have much money at all for a down payment. Are there any zero down condo loans available for foreigners?
As a foreigner, how long of a mortgage can I get? 20 years? 30 years? Thanks for any info you can give me.

I sent something important to US by EMS 2 weeks ago. Tracking shows it leaving Swampy outward express office then nothing more, and it has nto arrived at destination in US. No idea where it is or if it will ever arrive.
As for inbound - hot or miss, dribs and drabs.
Thanks for your report. Please let us know when it gets there. ????

I received a letter from a friend in California yesterday, postmarked June 11, so it took 15 days to get here. Seems like the mail service is pretty much back to normal, US to Thailand, but I’m not sure how it is from Thailand to the US. Hopefully it will be back to normal in time for us to mail our ballots! ????

It's been reported in another thread that SSA will not seek to penalise those who return their form late this year and accounts will not be suspended.

A friend received a USPS letter yesterday from TIAA that was mailed on May 8. Much better than another friend who received a letter from Prudential last week that was postmarked March 16 and looked like it had been left out in the rain and run over by a car. The letter was moldy.
I've been receiving correspondence from the SSA, VA and IRS consistently in about 4 or 5 weeks during the shutdown, but I wonder if the USG has an some alternate to the USPS to get mail into the country.
It’s mail coming from SSA that I’m a little worried about now because that annual I-am-not-dead-yet report usually arrives the middle of this month and has a short turn around time for filling it out and returning it, to avoid my SSA payments from being stopped. I’m sure you SSA recipients are familiar with that annual report form. Has anyone received theirs yet?

That appears to be the reason you got your payment earlier than most that are non filers.
I don't think they have done anything for those getting SSA payments who did not do it since they started long ago they would use the account info from the SSA.
Got to the registration page for the non filers form and decided I did not want to go any further.
As of to day I still get usual no info message on the get my payment site
Hope you get yours soon! I’m beginning to feel a little guilty about having received mine....several close friends here have also not received theirs...

That seems about right. 38,338 baht divided by $1200 is a exchange rate of about 31.35. But if you add the 200 baht fee (charged here) to 38,338 and subtract the $5 fee (NY fee) from $1200 the rate is 32.25 which is about correct the April 30th.
Thanks for confirming my theory. ????

Are you saying you received a 38,338 stimulus payment?
Well, i assume that’s what it was because I receive much, much less each month for my SS payment (which normally arrives on the 4th of the month) and if you divide 38,338 by 1200, it works out to be 31.95 baht which was the approximate exchange rate at that time. The deposit didn’t say it was the stimulus payment, but I don’t know what else it could have been! Any ideas? Did I jump to conclusions?

When I filled in the form for non-filers which was supposedly not required if I am receiving monthly SSA payments I got the following message: "Congratulations, the IRS has accepted your return. The IRS will process this information and determine your eligibility for the Economic Impact Payment. No further action is necessary." Still nothing either by mail or bank deposit to either my old address & account inn n Thailand (on the 2019 SSA 1099 form) or the new address and bank account info both changed with SSA and updated on the Non-filers website."
I also filled out the non-filer’s website (by mistake) and got the same message as this OP, and then a few weeks later on April 30 I received a deposit of 38,338 baht In my SS account at BKK bank.
Single, last tax filing was 2017, no filing since then, similar circumstances to many of you. I hope that whatever is causing this frustrating payment delay for so many of you will be fixed soon!
